August 19, 200718 yr You lose, the correct answer is George Orwell. We're studying Animal Farm in English class in school at the moment. It's a nice, short interesting read. I'd definitely commend Orwell in the way he satirically points out the flaws of communism, totalitarianism and dictators in general. Though I wouldn't have him as my favourite author. I don't read a lot of books and when I do read books I read them from all different authors so I wouldn't say I've got a favourite author. Just favourite books.

Instead of communism, totalitarianism and dictators in general, he talks more precisely about Stalinist Russia. I liked Animal Farm a lot, but I haven't read other books by him to say he's a good/bad writer. This signature is intentionally left blank.
August 19, 200718 yr Sure, nobody doubts that she's well surpassed Shakespeare, Marquez, Hemingway etc. in terms of popularity and riches, but when it comes to writing ability she's considered by critics to be far worse. Her writing often lacks important literary devices such as foreshadowing, dramatic irony, paradox, etc. Artistically, it's a mess. Economically, it's a thing of beauty. She writes for entertainment reasons rather than artistic reasons. Entertainment sells, although it doesn't make you a better writer because of it. :)... but surely qualifying as someone's favourite author doesn't actually require a mark of approval from a literature critic? And what the heck is "writing for artistic reasons" anyway? Fairly sure Shakespear would've starved if his plays hadn't generated some form of money. -This message was deviously brought to you by:

August 21, 200718 yr Isaac Asimov, the best Sci-Fi writer ever. I've already read five of his books and I'm going on for more. I disagree, I love Orson Scott Card(Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow), he wrote my two favorite books of all time. A very gifted SciFi writer.Hmm, I've read that entire series, and the books after Ender's Shadow are horrid. I'm gonna say Garth Nix. I do English to Japanese and Japanese to English translation for free! Just keep it under 5 sentences, and PM me to use my fluency in Japanese to your advantage!
