Do you think you have a soul?

Do you think you have a soul, some sort of essence, or do you think you are just some random makeup of physical cells, that there is nothing more to you than a biological brain, and that when you die you will cease to exist?

The thing is I know the latter but I don't know the former. The bold are the points I'd dispute, though. The former bold point because it's not true and the latter bold point because I don't know.

Well, so far as evidence has been given to me, I'll say we're just cells and chemical reactions.

How come you don't know? If you believe you have no soul, you cease to exist when your body dies. If you think you continue to exist, then it means you believe you are something more than just a body.

Of course he doesn't know. No one knows.

The only way you will ever know whether people have souls is by testing it yourself - by dying.

I have no soul, I live for but one purpose, to kill.

Rofl, Gara.

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

Duh. I'm asking for your opinion, or the thread would end with "I don't know".

Do you think you have a soul

Do I even need to mention this? This is not complicated to understand, stop making me lose my time to go back to kindergarden.

It's a matter of belief, not a matter of knowns. That's my opinion. I tend not to have opinions (more so on matters unknowable) but to challenge others to think. I prefer knowing things and accept when a matter is unknowable. But, I'm alway keen as to why people have the opinions they do. I don't care what side you take, I'm keen to hear your justification for having that opinion.

No warrior, "justifications" for opinions would turn this into a flame war, you know this. Just let people say their opinion and be. Besides no "justifications" stand here, we're all alive! ::' By that I mean, why argue on something we can never prove? Pointless, and ends in flames. :notalk:

Yes I believe I've got a soul. No doubt about it, we've all got a part of us that will live forever, in an afterlife. That being my opinion of course.

Yes.

One "evidential" discovery is called 22 grams.

No matter how much you way, or who you are, young, old, tall, short, fat, thin, man, woman, black, white. When you die, you lose 22 grams.

Scientists can't explain it.

I believe in the soul

Okay, I'm going to need to see some scientific sources on that. That's a new one on me. Though, twenty two grams seems like little more than some calculation error, whether accidental or done on purpose.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

I was talking more generally, but I understand. Perhaps you could PM me your justification if you'd like. I'm not the kind to flame you for believing in something at all but I'll probably ask 'why' a lot to challenge the core essence of why you think the way you do.

And andufusthebronze, that's a very interesting phenomenon. Perhaps you could link me to where you heard it? I'll do a google in the meanwhile.

And Warrior and I's opinion is that "we don't know." Are you only accepting certain opinions?

Lol. Stop arguing over stupid things like this, I bet you have fairy odd parents to watch  . And btw, "We don't know" is not an opinion, it's the truth.

First off, it's 21 grams, taken from the movie of the same name. Second off, one doctor tested this on like 6 patients, so saying "EVERYONE OF ANY COLOR AND SIZE AND RACE AND FATTNESS AND ETHNICITY AND SEXUAL PREFERENCE" seems a bit extreme.

Thirdly, I call shenanigans. A person dying goes through a lot of stuff, neurotransmitters are firing, muscles are converting sugars to energy, you are sweating, etc. Most notable, when you die you totally exhale. I believe a lung full of air and water moisture suddenly exhaling can toss the scale those few grams.

Also I thought we all agreed the soul is just that, a soul. A soul is meta-physical, and thus should have no mass. If something has mass it is made of atoms and thus is in the realm of science and is bound by the laws of science. In other words, if the soul has mass and we put the body in a plastic bag before the person dies... then the soul would be trapped in the plastic bag <.< I'm pretty sure mankind has come to the understanding that the soul is not made of atoms, ergo, it cannot have mass.

If you think one thing is true, is that not your opinion?

My opininion? I don't know. I don't have enough knowledge of it. There's no evidence for life after death, but nothing against it either. I guess it's just a matter of faith.
