Found A METEORITE! pics inside

Featured Replies

looks fairly large. might wanna decipher the price to see how much it is.

Ah and just a little hint, in all seriousness. When/if you do contact the university you will need to give them a better picture then the one you provided. Can you maybe borrow a camera from someone?

I can probably borrow one from a friend. I know for sure at least one of them has a decent camera.

And put a dollar bill beside it for size comparison. :P

Nice finding, I'd sell it if it was rare (worth quite a good price) if not I'd keep it.

I'm not the sentimental type, I'd definitely sell it if it was over a thousand. I mean who need sentimentalism when you have a new TV :D . But seriously its a good idea to get it checked out by a professional to see if you have found a meteorite (or not), hope you've got one and you've found a new element in it. They can call it scn64-ium or whatever your name is.

I have found about 3 or 4. mos recently was two years ago walking by a lake, when I picked up a cool looking rock, and kept it, later found out it was a meteorite. I have no idea how much they're worth but, that's pretty cool

I'd keep it just make sure you handle it properly, I hear sometimes if you touch it and then touch your mouth or eyes you can get sick.

O and I live in NJ, and on saturday 20ppl called the government because they saw fire raining down into the ocean and the plane system said they had no missing planes, the coast guard checked and found nothing so they say its a meteor shower but then I saw you lived in IL :wall: .

Cool lol.

I wouldnt reccommend selling it, you probably wouldnt be able to get find of these again.

Seeing as we're pretty tight on cash right now, I'd sell it without hesitating. But I doubt your family has 20 or less bucks only in it's bank account, so I cant talk to you. And I shall reiterate: make sure it's a meteorite at a local University.

Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you?

Camera guy: still laughing

Camera guy: Hoooholy [bleep]!

Be glad it didn't smash up your car. Oh wait, then you could sell the car too :-k

Happy to find I'm not the only one who eats glass.

That's really cool. I once found a strange looking rock, I picked it up, it was hard and all, then like a day later it was all dust, like it had just melted and turned into dust. It was extremely odd. :-k

Anyways, you really need to tell us what the University tells you, and keep us up to date. ::'

I would definitely sell it if it was more then 10k+

A pretty cool thing to claim that you own. If I were in your position, I'd keep it.

I'd still get it valued though. If money ever becomes a problem, always great to know that you have something good you can sell for a vast amount. :P

Im not stopping you from selling it, its just not what I'd do to be honest :)

Bear in mind that I don't have a meteorite, my friend!

I'd say sell it if its worth anything over $3000. But either way, tell us please what the people at the University say and how much they'd value it at. It'd be interesting to know. :)

Getting a camera from a friend to send a picture to a University seems like an aweful lot of work to be let down over. I'd bet money on it being quartz. Look at pictures of meteorites - they're all dull, iron or rock peice of space junk. That thing you ahve there is kinda' pretty...Only something the Earth makes. :P

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

keep it unless you can get an outrageous amount of money for it

It does look like a bit of quartz to me, although it is quite nice looking. Hopefully it'll turn out to be a meteorite and make you rich

OT: the site someone posted earlier about how to id a meteorite was written by the worlds most arrogant person lol.

My goal is to be the most polite and helpful person that you can go to for help. But be aware that while it is not too difficult to be the best, it is sometimes quite difficult to be polite.
