Just Want to know...

What The [bleep] Hell is wrong with an 'emo' person anyway!? Lifestyle Choice = emo. So, be what they want.

You really don't get it because you're an idiot.

If you really were depressed you wouldn't spend time growing your fringe long, dressing like other people and calling yourself 'emo'. It's just a shot for attention, because if you really were suicidal you wouldn't be worried about how skinny your legs look in your tight pants would you?

... You don't get that, I'm classified as an emo at school... -.-

Depressed and suicidal is a completely different thing than the looks. Infact, if you saw a 'Gangsta' on the street, they have a totally different look to everyone else, 'emo's' do want to be alienated (You could say) So people just don't talk to them. <.<

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Why call yourself an emo if you don't act it? More importantly why do you feel the need to slam yourself into a stereotypical group?

I said, people classify me as an emo.

Must have mis-read. I'm fine with people dressing however they like, it just irks me when they dress that way for a purpose (I.E to fit into a certain group).

Well why do people stereotype themselves into groups when they all want to be individual then?

Well, there are numerous negative thoughts and stuff around 'emo's' so if they group into one culture, people will be haters, and leave them alone, hence the negativity.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

What good is individuality when it could alienate you? As humans we crave attention, it's just natural to want to fit in and be recognized by your peers, but also to blend in so you're not shunned. We can all pretend to be "individuals" but we're all dressing or acting a certain way to fit in with a group, whether we know it or not. Have you ever noticed you don't often see a guy wearing Hollister clothes hanging out with a guy in all black with lots of chains/[bleep]es? Whether or not you choose to believe it, we all fit into a stereotypical group and we tend to stick with that group. Look at what you're wearing, your favorite hobbies, things like that. Then look at what your friends are wearing, their favorite hobbies, an you'll see you're a lot alike. However, you've probably got a lot in common with a big part of your school but you don't notice it because of the way everyone dresses or acts. Individuality was pushed aside when you entered middle school and officially thrown out the door when you entered high school.

Haha, normally somebody couldn't comeback to something like that because we don't know you IRL. But when I look at your profile I see multiple references to being emo. Tell me, why do you tell an Internet Forum you're emo, but not people at school?

Or are you just lying about the latter!?

This thread is stupid. it is filled with:

1. people trying to show off / people with superiority complexes (thank you max) / people sucking up to each other

2. idiots

i read five and a half pages of utter crap, and my responses to most of the posts were... who the [bleep] cares? And that response went to people defending emo

Why? Am i a stereotyping bigot? maybe i'm preppy and hate people different from me. Maybe i'm emo, trying to get attention (ahahaa). Or maybe im a an idiotic troll. Yes, i have a feeling already that i'll becalled that. But it seems to me regardless of what i say or what i am (the latter of which shouldn't even matter) no one will acknowledge truths (and by truths, i mean things that actually happen. some people should go outside more often.) because said reader is one of the two types of people i listed earlier. Or both. Maybe none, but im not one to ask and care.

Anyways, back on track. I dont know where emo came from. Nor do i claim to be an expert on emos, or any other "social group", because 1. you dont care (in fact, no one does. so i won't bother), 2. i don't care so much about someone else's style that i want to know them, and 3. i forget but im sure theres a third reason.

Ok. Here are some of those "truths" i have gathered from just observation, or overhearing some people. I'm no psychologist. Just a bystander, per se. Ok.

1. Emo kids are labeled cutters because they advertise it. most don't cut. those who do cut because it makes them more emo. Don't even try to compare this to people who cut because they are depressed.

2. Emo kids say they're emo because they don't want to be with the other crowd (the only people i see argue against this are people who are emo themselves)

2.1 and so they form their own crowd. Irony, yes

2.2 tools, much?

3. Emo guys wear tight pants because they think it makes them look different. Not sexy. The hair is for sexy. You know, covered eyes, draping hair for the "mysterious" look.

funny story: friend (male) dresses semi emo, not on purpose. Wears his only pair of tight jeans. Black shirt (i forget what was on it). Hasn't cut his hair, so it was too long to gel, so he lets it droop in the front (his mom cuts it). We go to the mall with other people, get split up, we find him again laughing. Supposedly, he went to hot topic to get some anime thing in the back for his little sister's birthday (which is why we had split up earlier) and a flock of emo kids went up to him and criticized his emoness (or lack thereof). He said one girl said he would look hotter if he had grown his hair longer, but he probably made that up :D :D :D

4. Emo kids are actually happy. Because they can afford to buy all their [cabbage] at hot topic at their ridiculous prices. And their ipods (preferably black). But the happy draws less attention then sad. And the sad works with their "mysterious" look.

5. Emo kids listen to their music because no one has heard of them, or because it fits into the emo genre. And this is an issue with peeps on this forum too. For some reason, people think listening to bands no one has ever heard of makes them different. Conversation with an emo kid i got paired up with in class (we had finished work early):

(he started) What do you listen to?

Me: _____ (irrelevant)

Him: Yea well i like ____ (band no one has ever heard of)

Me: Thats nice

Him: (goes on to list other bands)

Me: (i had just met him, so i tried to be nice) So

I didn't even ask him. Wtf. And then you look on these forums, the "favorite bands" threads or "whats your fav song" and you see some good songs, some original songs, and then... some kid listing 10 fav songs, with 10 diff bands, all of which have never existed to you up till that moment. Followed by "yea omg this stuff is great" as if someone cared.

/end

So what does this all mean? In case you didn't notice (or in case i didn't mention it), all five of those, stereotypes you would call them, people do because emo kids think it draws attention.

So why do people hate emo kids?

Because no one cares. But yet they persist. The best summary of the emo outlook would be #5, since it goes a little beyond that. They advertise their lifestyle, mentioning, literally, at every moment they can, some aspect of their life that is different and unique and (sometimes) how we are all tools (irony, again). And every time they do so, it is followed by the listener with the reaction "i don't care", whether it be expressed verbally, or by walking away as to never hear them talk ever, ever again, or by booking said emo the "avoid this kid" section of the mind (most common, as it is the most courteous. But probably the worst for them, since it doesn't help them realize it)

Oh god this post isn't over yet

But its not that bad. I actually typed up a rl example, but i figured it was too long (which it was) so i cut it out and skipped to this:

Not-truths about emo

1. goths are not emo. big difference there

2. emos are not depressed. its the look that makes them seem it. see truth #4. striker6 posted truthery, calling an emo depressed is an insult to anyone actual clinically depressed person. No one ever chooses to be depressed.

3. Emos can't back their attitude. Most learn pretty quickly that their facade breaks under pressure

i.e. i dont know this kid, but i was standing in line to get a bottle of water in the morning (no loose change for machines -_-) and one emo kid cuts in front of another emo kid. Near the back the gansters (not gangstas, as you will see) notice and call him out. Emo kid gives attitude (gansta (again, not gansta) remarks), needs teachers to save his hide fifteen seconds later. Line shortens real fast, and i get water.

4. Being emo does not make you unique. I think plenty of people have already addressed this, but just in case you didn't notice, you're just another tool.

Alrite, thats all. Since i posted, i must be one of the two type of people i listed. So i guess i'll be number 2. Cuz i'd really would perfer that over #1 anyday.

And for those who think i speak nonsense, ok, you tool

I like emo muses, and some of the clothes, but not the forgodsaken style. Got it? <.<

Btw. I think this is the most controversial thread I've posted in, and the most controversial post. ='\

Emo can mean, "I'm cooler then every one els", im a "rock star wanna be"

No. Quite the opposite. Emo says, go away, leave me alone, I don't give a fudge, IMO

There have been a lot of posts like that lately. Personally, I'm tired of one line jokes that make no sense or just aren't funny. I'd rather read a decent length post, that basically goes nowhere, so I at least have something to respond to..

I guess it's a bad idea to post 'Emo is not a dirty word' then?

If you hate emo's because they pester you when you don't care, couldn't you just tune out and not listen? If you hate them because they classify themselves as emo, shouldn't you then hate people who classify themselves as metal heads? As 'gangstas'? As chavs? I agree it is pretty stupid to act depressed when you're not, but people go to great lengths just to fit in, to belong. Should you hate people for wanting that?
