September 17, 200718 yr STOCKHOLM/DUBAI - THE head of an Al-Qaeda-led group in Iraq has offered US$100,000 (S$151,000) for the killing of a Swedish cartoonist for his drawing of Islam's Prophet Mohammad and threatened to attack big Swedish companies. Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, leader of the self-styled Islamic State in Iraq, also offered US$50,000 to anyone who killed the editor of the newspaper that published the drawing by Lars Vilks depicting the head of the Prophet on the body of a dog. Sweden's Nerikes Allehanda daily published the drawing, part of a series which art galleries in Sweden had declined to display, last month in what it called a defence of free speech. Islam does not allow images of the Prophet Mohammad and Muslims consider dogs to be unclean. The controversy follows violent protests in the Muslim world last year over the publication by a Danish newspaper of cartoons some Muslims felt insulted the Prophet Mohammad. More than 50 people died across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Until now, the Swedish image, published on Aug 27, had drawn only diplomatic ire and a small local demonstration. Sweden's Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt met ambassadors from 22 Muslim countries to try to defuse the row. 'From now on we announce the call to shed the blood of the Lars who dared to insult our Prophet ... and during this munificent month we announce an award worth US$100,000 to the person who kills this infidel criminal,' Baghdadi said in the 31-minute audiotape posted on an Islamist website on Saturday. 'The award will be increased to US$150,000 if he were to be slaughtered like a lamb. 'We know how to force them to withdraw and apologise, and if they don't, they can wait for our strikes on their economy and giant companies such as Ericsson , Volvo, Ikea ...' He also mentioned Scania and Electrolux. -- REUTERS  Wow, this is getting dangerously close to where I live, in Finland, Sweden's neighbor. I never thought it would get that close. I hope people in Finland have enough sense to keep out of this as much as possible... (Look at below post) Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking. The police are going to be protecting the people who are listed.
September 17, 200718 yr Sweden should not back down. We must not let these people win. It is a fundamental right to produce and distribute these images. Those that make the death threats should be sent to life imprisonment. We all need to back our Scandinavian friends for they have the guts to stand up to the extremists. Never pander to these people. September 17, 200718 yr I'm not aware of any "funamentalist gays" going round making death threats and terrorising people. Maybe they exist who knows. If they do exist then they are just as bad as the muslim extremists. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. There are always going to be "Extremists", Most of them will have a mental disorder If a muslim were to to invade our country, you hear and see them abusing people, then they degrade your religon by drawing a turbin on jesus or god, would you not be mad? :-s
September 17, 200718 yr ^^ I wouldn't I`m an athiest. \ When you mentioned the Dragon Plates I had a sudden vision of a load of gangsters running around in fancy dress yealling "Grim Reaper in da hood!"
September 17, 200718 yr As a straight white British male atheist I am not a member of any minority or religious group so I'm probably not the best person to ask that Achilleus. If anybody, Muslim or not, comes into my country and starts abusing people then that is a crime. Creating "blasphemous" art is, however, not a crime and certainly does not deserve a death threat. I don't think there is anything that could make me mad enough to truly want someone to be killed because of it. September 17, 200718 yr Being Swedish, i got kinda' schocked when i heard this on the telly couple of days ago. There's even a 100$K reward for killing this guy. But SÃÆÃââââ¬Ã¾PO (swedish security police), has hightend their security level and other things. But i mean, dang. I understand how someone can be angry if you portray some (fictional?) person like this. But killing? Isn't it religion who says that you shouldn't kill your next ones? I think this is going too far. J'adore aussi le sexe et les snuff moviesJe trouve que ce sont des purs moments de vieJe ne me reconnais plus dans les gensJe suis juste un cas désespérantEt comme personne ne viendra me réclamerJe terminerai comme un objet retrouvé
September 17, 200718 yr Kill President bush for 1 million US dollars  I don't think you have to even offer that much for it to happen. :-w But seriously, I'd rather die then be unable to do what I want. They are also showing us how fantastic their religion is, listen to this or die. :
September 17, 200718 yr Isn't it religion who says that you shouldn't kill your next ones? Not Islam. It is acceptable (written in the words of god according to the Koran) to slay infidels. There is nothing wrong with their brain, it's just been filled with the propaganda of others and is likely more susceptible to be unquestioning and docile. This is the way society works and is hence why you get extremists in anything. The nature of thier extremity is a consequence of the particular brand of propaganda they are fed. As for being mad if someone abused something I believed in, probably (well I've got no idea, never been offended from someone degrading something I believe in, but go with me here), but in no circumstance is someones degredation of my beliefs reason to kill them. We don't live in the dark ages any more. Anyway I agree with mercifull. We shouldn't pander to thier messages of bigotry, hate and intolerance. Drawing a picture is no reason to kill someone.
September 17, 200718 yr You guys really do not understand Islam. It is by Design, a hate religion. There TV shows are things you would think you would never see... people showing regular TV shows about their hatred for the Jews and Americans.. and how their going to kill them just because we are ourselfs. I don't know about you, but I will never allow them to chain my freedom with death threats. And warri0r45.. I disagree.. the dark ages are only begining. September 17, 200718 yr Psh, this kind of thing isn't new - think of Salman Rushdie - he had a fatwa declared against him and has survived an assassination attempt I believe. Good old religious fundamentalism.

Good old islamic fundamentalism. Fixed. We don't put hits out on people. And I don't see how a picture of Christ with a turban would be insulting. From what I hear, turbans were very popular in the Middle East two thousand years ago. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. September 17, 200718 yr Anyone got a link for the cartoon? And how are they going to send me the money western union? A friend to all is a friend to none.
September 17, 200718 yr Boo-hoo, stop crying about a cartoon Mr head of terrorists, and realize some of the world has the right to draw whatever the hell they want. The day we apologize for our right to freedom of speech is the day the terrorists win. Edit: I just remembered Comedy Central already admitted defeat for us by censoring the image of Prophet Mohammad in any CC show recently. Pixel sigs by me.Pixel Art

Quoted for truth. I think perhaps that the whole 'painting mohammed with a bomb for a turban' thing was of slightly bad taste, but it does emphasise how Islam is a hate religion, no matter how politically correct you want to be. If it's in the Qur'an, its a part of Islam. If the Qur'an preaches hatred and non-tolerance, and gives a reason to kill others simply because they do not preach the same thing, then this is all part of Islam and something should be done about it. ~ W ~
