Xeones
OK, we all know what a Ring of Wealth is. But, does it truly work? Or is it just a myth? Can it even be proven? Discuss.
C110
Everytime i see a ring of wealth i think: this could have been a glory :-w I dont know what the truth is, people keep making topics about it, but only Jagex nows it for 100%, ~ColossuS~ - I'm not proud of everything I've done, but I have no regrets
mugged99
this topic has been discussed for years... fact is no regular knows how it works, of course there are general facts like the two wheel thing, but no one could tell you how it works for individual monsters like the black dragon.. anyways..seems to work a little for me.. All_Bogs
Can it even be proven? Well, actually proving it would be tough, but with a huuuuge sample size for both regular and ring-of-wealth powered drops, one would be able to make a statement on whether it works or not with a high propability of said statement being true. Then again, getting a huuuuuge sample size would be an awful lot of work :P
bsmovies
i think it does. me and my friend used to goto tzhar caves to try and get obby item drops, he had a RoW but i didnt (too poor at the time). and he got his first drop in about 200 kills, which was an obby cape. it took me a staggering 600+ kills until i got an obby shield drop. With such little odds and such a small odd change, this doesn't prove anything. I do believe they work though, the difference is only too small to notice for one person. The only time I noticed some difference was when killing 8K green dragons, I killed about 2K with ROW and 6K without and I noticed a pretty big difference in nature and water drops while wearing a ROW. But I still believe you're better of with a berserker ring. Harrington
On RuneHQ there's a drop guide whereby someone killed 1k abyssal demons with and without a RoW. It was clear from that, that the RoW does make a difference. However, that was posted years ago and we all know how much Jagex like to tamper with stuff. Especially with the release of those new rings such as archer and beserker. You're sacrificing luck for power, which is nice, but ulitmately seems pointless if you're not going to get the good drops. Soma2035
Ring of wealth DOES work, and it HAS been proven to work and confirmed by Jagex. Hopefully you all know that the way a ring of wealth works is that a monster has two drop lists, "normal" and "rare". When you kill a monster, there's a chance of using the rare drop list instead, which contains items such as Gemstones, Half Keys, Dragon Half Shields, Dragon Spears, etc. Well, the only way to really prove this is to take a drop that's fairly common, and see if a Ring of Wealth affects it. I chose Aberrant Spectres, because herbs, double herbs, and triple herbs are all fairly common drops. Wearing a ring of wealth GREATLY increased the speed which I could collect a full inventory of herbs. This was tested for over 200 trips, and I saw a consistent increase in the frequency at which herbs dropped. Conclusion? Ring of wealth DOES affect the rate of drops between the two drop lists. As for whether you should use it... The fact is, we are unable to classify most drops. Is an abyssal whip on the rare list or the normal list? For the most part, the only items that we can be almost 100% sure about are gemstones, half keys, dragon left half and dragon spear. Wearing a ring of wealth when searching for ANYTHING else is a gamble. It'll either increase your odds, or decrease your odds, depending on whether your guess was correct. And finally, the improvement isn't THAT great. If you had say 10% chance of getting a rare drop, you wouldn't have 20 with a ring of wealth. you'd have a 10% increase ON 10%, meaning you'd have an 11% chance of getting a rare drop. I wouldn't use it unless you're collecting herbs or training on monsters like shadow warriors. The only good shadow warrior drops are all rares, like gems, half keys, spears, and left halves. Otherwise, instead of taking a gamble, equip a ring that's actually guaranteed to be beneficial. Want to learn to Nex? The Nex Hunters are recruiting! Click for more information! truffoo
While never provable beyond doubt, there are many players who believe that the ROW does work (as you can see above). However it does not in any way guarantee that you'll ever get a rare drop, just that the chance of a rare is increased. Without knowing how the drops are determined with and without a ROW, we will never be able to know for sure ... even with a huge sample size. If we killed the same monster, at the same time, in the same way with/without a ROW, would the drop be any different? But ultimately ... Why would they lie to us? ... there is no benefit to Jagex of a "fake" ring. Therefore I'd just have to assume that it does work as stated in the KB: The ring of wealth increases the chance of getting a rare drop when you kill a monster WARNING: Prone to ramble ... but you probably already know that!1% F2P : 99% RL

Berrakus
I have always heard the two roulette wheel description and always thought that the second wheel was for "rare" drops, depending on the monster. But recently I have been seeing official responses from Jagex on other sights stating that the second wheel is only for Dragon drops and that a ROW would increase your chance of getting a better Dragon drop (if the monster drops more than one). I was suprised by this since it seems if that is the case, then the ROW has a very limited use and that we would be better off wearing the fremmy rings from the DKs to do more damage and get more kills than to wear a ROW and hope for a better Dragon drop.
