dwarfdude3
So my first thread on this got locked because people started a flame war. And since mods are all 'lock-happy' they locked it rather than cleaning up the flames. But now its back, and don't flame this time. ------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.futuremusic.com/new.....iphop.html man, this is really interesting. I wonder if rap is on its way out... if so, what's next? heavy metal, techno (god I hope not), reggae? I personally hope we get like a new Beatles-like band to save music. or, most likely, rap will make a comeback in some way. EDIT: careful people, remember the purpose of this thread is to speculate on the future of popular music, not to sell whatever kind of music you like or criticize what kind of music other people like. Don't get this locked again, it probably won't be allowed back. and also, I don't hate rap, I actually enjoy some rap music, though usually not the popular rap. My favorites are Kanye West and Mos Def. But all this is irrelevant. This thread is to speculate on the future of music.

Anyway, I'm still saying that I hope we don't get another "beatles-like" band, Because it's way too soft and annoying. According to Lennon though they were bastards. Cept Ringo of course. Oh, on topic. Well rap is much an underground style of music, i do not think it particulaly does so well when brought into the mainstream and streamlined by record companies. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

You seem to be asserting that rap is the most popular genre of music, which is not the case. Rap and Hip Hop make up less than 15% of total music sales in the US (based on RIA survey). Necrobean
Because rap isn't what it is anymore these days. NWA (and Eazy E in general) those where the days, good lyrics with a meaning. Gangsta rap was something that was real not something wannabe's rap about. The only decent rapper should be "Snoop Doggy dog" He even worked with NWA. Oh well. ;>

yaff2
I personally, HATE rap. But look. Rap takes minimal tallent People download instead of buy people are just growing out of it. I think most people are moving to the slower stuff anyways, but people who are true to their music. will stay with it im glad raps on its way out 1980 Berlinetta with a 350, bored, mild cam, intake carb, headers, exhaust
Icingdeath
I used to like rap and hip-hop, NWA and the like. And old-skool hip-hop. It's just not very good anymore :( Oh well...metal for life. :) Until I'm like 40 and it's too heavy for my old ears. Hehe. I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.
Bubsa
I personally, HATE rap. But look. Rap takes minimal tallent Completely your unjustified, biased opinion. Basically: learn to post. adam_ross0
I hope it is on the way out. I doubt it though. This is a very basic opinion, I'm not in the mood to think real deep on this right now. Anyways. One reason that Rap seems to be going out according to the researchers, is because sales are down. Wanna know why? Downloading. Mmhm..I'm sure that a big percentage of illegal music downloads are of the rap genre. Again, artists make the most money from live shows anyways. That's why that music genre is doing so well. The artists make appearances at major events, they perform live shows..they get money. I doubt I'd be wrong if I said that most other music genres are in the same situation..Rap/Hip-hop is just 'in' right now. Well, there's what I think. If you like it and agree, thanks. If you disagree, either ignore this completely or give an educated and proven response to prove me wrong.

Poopingman
I think people are finally getting sick of it. Rap had its time to shine. I grew up during the huge boom after the turn of the century, Lil' Jon and all those super-popular rap groups are legendary, as much as you may hate them. But its part of our generation, no matter what you may think of it. The problem is, rap isn't evolving at all, still talking about the same topics....running out of ideas....its just not like it was 5 years ago when these ideas were still rather fresh, its over. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....
ctp080188
Pfft it doesn't matter. I'll continue to listen to as much rap as I like, record sales mean nothing to me. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED.

And plus, it was a joke. :| Yeah Ray, I totally flame you. You're just amd because everytime you try to bash rap or hip-hop, I come back witha valid reason you can't argue against. NOW THAT's flaming. I personally, HATE rap. But look. Rap takes minimal tallent Completely your unjustified, biased opinion. Basically: learn to post. You saved me some time. :P I'd like to see this guy hear Illmatic or Reasonable Doubt or something and say that didn't take talent. I hope it is on the way out. I doubt it though. Wow. you demand a educated, proven response right after you willingly admit you don't want to deliver one yourself? Give me your "educated" reasons to why you hate rap if you want me to give an "educated" response. And yeah, all genres are heavily illegally downloaded. Just because rap is down the msot doesn't mean it's the only one that is. I'm pretty sure now just about all artists, from rap to country to metal, whatever, are gettign a very large portion of their money from live performances.
