Note: this post is oriented for serious discussion. It may take a long time to respond properly/meaningfully to the post... so don't spam. It's also oriented to people who have the cash to buy these things [The population that has 20M-500M net worth]

 

 

 

(I'm trying to construct a list of things a typical RS person should buy - what are the necessities that everyone should have, and what should only be bought as luxuries?)

- 3rd Age Armor - buy Bandos

 

- Full Torag - why bother when you can use dharok legs & plate?

 

- Full Dharok - good to have, use legs & plate when you want max def.

 

- Full Verac - another good set to have

 

- Full Ahrim - same as above

 

- Whip - +dfs = good chance of beating Godsword if specials don't work.

 

- Full Karil - Top & bottom are usefull, might as well have set.

 

- Dragon Boots - if you don't have these then your probably a pure skiller

 

- Berserker Ring - needed for max str bonus

 

- Warrior Ring - good to have as well

 

- Infinity Boots - wear these for maging steels

 

- Fury - kinda essential gear

 

- D Chain, Legs - sorta noob

 

- Robin Hat - cool if you haven't bothered getting Armadyl

 

- Robin Boots - essential range gear

 

- 70 Prayer - yes

 

- 99 Range - yes

Whip (The only real reason to not train with a whip is to train str, one of the best deals)

 

Full Karil (Don't get full, the coif is terrible, the rest is good if you aren't safespotting, black dhide if you are)

 

Dragon Boots (Strength and Defense cheaply, good deal)

 

Berserker Ring (Whats wrong with a wealth?)

 

Warrior Ring (Whats wrong with a wealth? And worse than berserker)

 

Infinity Boots (Don't konw their price sorry, if you can afford though it's still bonus)

 

Fury (The only downside is no teleporting)

 

D Chain, Legs (Get the chain, get a skirt, it's better value than the legs)

 

Robin Hat (If you can afford it to save the embarasment of the ranger helm from barb assault then get it.

 

Robin Boots (Worth it but less so than other things, snakeskin is a decent replacement)

 

70 Prayer (Good for boss', don't bother unless you're into that, quite cheap with and altar/ecto though)

 

99 Range (Not worth it to me, worth it if you like range)

 

94 Mage (Not worth it to me unless you like pking/mage)

 

The best value for bonus item in my opinion isn't on their however, probably because it's so cheap, the black mask is a must have for all slayers and makes meleeing slayer task easier and faster.[/hide]

with those the title says it all typically, so they are easier to avoid then these tricky titles. even though this title isnt really tricky but intriguing.

With full Guthan at an all time low of 6.5-6.7m I think it is the best deal. The Whip is a close second at it's all time low of 1.4m and the Rune Defender costing nothing except a few hours time. *remembers paying 2.9m for a whip and luckily barrowing 3 Guthan pieces when the set was 12.5m.*

- DFS - Good looking and all, don't really see it as a very useful item for 25M

 

- Full Guthan - 100% needed, very useful

 

- Godsword - No. Just for show, I wouldn't spend about half my ash on a sword

 

- Bandos Armor - Tassets are worth it, I never bought them though I'm good enough with my barrows/rune legs for now.

 

- 3rd Age Armor - Imo 3rd age melee plate and legs are worth having just for the respect, but it's too expensive and alot other armour can replace it

 

- Full Torag - Not particularily useful, just a waste of cash and bank space

 

- Full Dharok - Lots of fun, great looking and not expensive. Worth it.

 

- Full Verac - Very handy for hunting tough monsters, overall prolly the best barrows armour when it comes to utility/price. Even though guthans has dropped loads now.

 

- Full Ahrim - Handy for CW's, Pits and PKing

 

- Whip - Very cheap and best weapon in game in practical terms. Yes.

 

- Full Karil - A bit useless, but the mage bones is good so if you got spare cash I'd buy it.

 

- Dragon Boots - Yeah, the more the str bonus the better. Good looking with some outfits too

 

- Berserker Ring - Too pricy, but I still think it's great to have: max str bonus ftw lol

 

- Warrior Ring - not really useful if you can buy zerker ring. Never used it

 

- Infinity Boots - Great looking and handy extra xp, recommended.

 

- Fury - Of course. Sweet looking and awesome bonuses. Shame it doesnt have same str bonus as Strength ammy, but still worth it.

 

- D Chain, Legs - Like 3rd age (except the respect) I think it's not worth it at all, specially dragon. Barrows is better even with repair costs.

 

- Robin Hat - Can be replaced but I think it's totally worth it. Good looking, great range bonus and fitting.

 

- Robin Boots - To go with robin.

 

- 70 Prayer - Worth it. Ain't much cash and piety makes the difference.

 

- 99 Range - Very handy skill to have maxed. I bought 99 range myself. Even though it's really expensive I'd recommend it - great looking cape too ;)

 

- 94 Mage - Duh. Can't call yourself a gamer if you can't turn others into ice cubes. Also doesn't take too long if you have the cash.[/hide]

- Full Torag [Only the plate is useful. V skirt is better than T legs because same stats and a prayer bonus. Obviously the helm and hammers are useless]

 

- Full Dharok [A cool set to have. Not necessarily useful unless you PK, but can be good for str training.]

 

- Full Verac [Great for KQing and staking. It's cheap now so you might as well buy a set]

 

- Full Ahrim [Good if you actually mage - I don't - but it's cheap anyway]

 

- Whip [All around most useful weapon in the game. PKing, training, ect. And cheap.]

 

- Full Karil [Top and bottom are very useful while slaying mage based monsters]

 

- Dragon Boots [best str boots; very cheap, anyone who melees should own them]

 

- Berserker Ring [Way too expensive to be worth it IMO. I'd rather use recoil for PK/Stake and life/wealth for slayer and training]

 

- Warrior Ring [same as above, except not that expensive]

 

- Infinity Boots [Great for monster-hunting mages, and for PKing if you are rich]

 

- Fury [best amulet in the game by far, you should work your way up to buying one ASAP]

 

- D Chain, Legs [Looks hawt, and best non-degradable armor if you're like me and can't afford Bandos]

 

- Robin Hat [Worthless. My Z coif has almost as much range bonus as this thing. If you want better range bonus AND something that shows off more get an ayrmydl (sp?) hat]

 

- Robin Boots [Much better than snakeskin boots, so this one actually might be worth the price]

 

- 70 Prayer [Piety... nuff said :XD:]

 

- 99 Range [A truly owange level. Good for monster hunting, PKing, Staking... but it isn't an easy level to get. If you plan to do any of those things and like range, go for it]

 

- 94 Mage [Good for PKing. Nothing much else this is useful for, besides maybe a better chance of hitting rex on DK trips, or steel dragons]

My current runescape net is between 9 and 10 billion. Im actualy glad that you made a discussion post like this, because despite having the ability to buy anything in game, there is certain things that are simply not worth buying.

 

 

 

One important thing to separate is skillers vs combat. I myself, like many others, concetrate on skills as opposed to various forms of combat, so some items may not be as valuble to skillers as they would to fighters. So my list will be based on that point of view.

 

 

 

To go over your first list.

 

 

 

List:

 

- DFS - I would say this is a luxioury, not needed.

 

- Full Guthan - I do not think barrows is practical

 

- Godsword - extreme waste of money, a big nono

 

- Bandos Armor - extreme waste of money, a big nono

 

- 3rd Age Armor - extreme waste of money, a big nono

 

- Full Torag - I do not think barrows is practical

 

- Full Dharok - I do not think barrows is practical

 

- Full Verac - I do not think barrows is practical

 

- Full Ahrim - I do not think barrows is practical

 

- Whip - a good weapon, but dds is a fine alternate, not an important item

 

- Full Karil - waste of money

 

- Dragon Boots - a very good all around item, a must have

 

- Berserker Ring - waste of money

 

- Warrior Ring - waste of money

 

- Infinity Boots - good mage boots, I would say a should have

 

- Fury - as good as this item is, glory is just much cheaper

 

- D Chain, Legs - this I would say is a must have if you do combat

 

- Robin Hat - a good, but luxurious item

 

- Robin Boots - a good, but luxurious item

 

- 70 Prayer - Personaly I think 60 is just fine.

 

- 99 Range - Depends if you like combat?

 

- 94 Mage - This is worth having, regardless if you like combat or no

 

 

 

Now, to break down your list

 

 

 

- Whip [Comparable to GS/best melee in game. 1.4M is cheap] - I agree, but dds is only 50k?

 

 

 

- 70 Prayer [~3M, piety makes a huge difference in melee] - that 3M can be invested to make a lot more money, id say its a waste

 

 

 

- Full Torag [All the defense I need] - once again, depends on what you intend to get out of this game, secondly, dragon is better.

 

 

 

- Full Karil [best Mage defense for cheap] - I disagree, but thats just me.

 

 

 

- Fury [Everyone looks like a noob without one] - good thing this game is all about looks? :)

 

 

 

- DFS [For defense and its special, which might be useful in monster hunting] - big waste, granite shield is a fine alternative if you cant afford a square.

 

 

 

- Full Verac [useful for monster hunting, prayer bonus] - dragon is better

 

 

 

- Dragon Boots [strength bonus for cheap] - this should be one of the priority items.

 

 

 

- 99 Range [useful for monster hunting] - I disagree, this is by far more useful for PKin and staking. Also, if you list 99 range, you should have listed dark bow, which is a definate MUST HAVE for anyone who likes range, in which case ranger and robin should become a priority as well.

 

 

 

- Full Guthan [useful for training] - dragon is better in the long run.

 

 

 

- Warrior Ring [+4 barely makes a diff, but hey it's cheap] - still a waste.

 

 

 

- Full Ahrim [i rarely mage] - its good if you mage, but 1 mil is just too much to pay for it if its not a priority.

 

 

 

- Robin Boots [+8 bonus almost justifies 3M, but it's on the expensive side] - if you love ranging and use it to make $, this is justified.

 

 

 

- 94 Mage [Veng] - magic is extremely good all around, regardless of what spells you use.

 

 

 

- Bandos Armor [Looks amazing, 23M is worth it] - not really, one of the bigger wastes of moeny id say.

 

 

 

- D Chain, Legs ["Non-noob" armor, and at ~13M it's not so bad] - if you enjoy melee combat this is a definate must get over barrows.

 

 

 

- Godsword [Looks cool, but other than that it's comparable to the whip and useless.] - aggred, waste of money

Now, to take this a bit further, there is some more things that you neglected to mention. Since you list this post as a post for people with up to 500 mil in wealth, you really cant neglect rares. Furthermore, there are those with over 500 and even over a billion in wealth.

 

 

 

[xmas cracker] - most rare and expensive item. Only time this is worth having is if you are a collector who can afford to own this and still go on with other things.

 

 

 

[any color party hat] - a true symbol of wealth in this game. No matter how much of a waste it seems, its not. If anything, its an investment, because the value will always go up no matter what.

 

 

 

[any color mask or santa] - a lesser symbol of wealth, but an investment none the less.

 

 

 

[pumpkin, easter, half wine] - although these are investments too, I dont consider them as something worth having. If possible, go for a party hat, if not, go for a mask or santa.

dragon boots are +4 str, rune is +2 meaning that the 80 rune boots are half that of dragon

- DFS -if you can afford it,can turn the tides of battles when staking or fighting boss monsters.best defence shielld in game,doubles as a anti drag shield and has a great strength bonus.

 

- Full Guthan-the theoretical ability to never pay for food when training ever again,its a bargain if you can afford it.

 

- Godsword-status symbol but i dont have an oppinion on all of tehm since ive only tried zammy.

 

- Bandos Armor-Best looking armour in the game(imo),status symbol and the best trining/zerker armour set.

 

- 3rd Age Armor-purely a status symbol.

 

- Full Torag -great for fights where prayer is denied and is rather cheap for some of the best defence armour in game

 

- Full Dharok-useless useless youre going crazy at bandits or trying to break the highest hit.

 

- Full Verac-good prayer armour and good defence so very helpful at dagganoth kings.looks very cool aswell

 

- Full Ahrim-good mage robes which makes a differance when maging for long periods of time.

 

- Whip-when factoring cost and power its arguably the best weapon in the game.

 

- Full Karil-best mage exp in game.

 

- Dragon Boots-best strength boots altough ugly looking.

 

- Berserker Ring-useless unless youre training for long preiods of time.

 

- Warrior Ring-for its cost i would say this isnt as bad as the zerker ring

 

- Infinity Boots-ive never ever seen teh differance over wizard boots a 10th of the price

 

- Fury -does make a differance in combat but its a little pricy

 

- D Chain, Legs -status symbol(still) and looks good

 

- Robin Hat-looks good but makes no differance when traning

 

- Robin Boots-same as the hat,get snakeskin

 

- 70 Prayer-its worth it just for piety

 

- 99 Range-good for pking?i dont have an oppinion on it

I sold off my set at 6.8M, haven't bought it. Granted, I am rich, but I just never used it outside of training (and I use BTP tabs anyway), and would rather spend it on a second fury or something.

91 RC- Simply THE best way to make money w/o staking and merchanting.

 

Rune Armor- without it, where would any of us be?

 

D skimmy- Best overall weapon in my opinion, and can train strength

 

Whip- easily a very good weapon, but with a flaw of not being able to train strength.

 

DDS- K0 potential, very important in PKing/CW!

 

Guthans- No food?! nice 8-) A slayer must!

 

Dragon Boots- Good and all, and str bonuses are really great for boots

 

Godwars Armor- Good bonuses, but price isn't really worth the bonuses

 

DFS- a good shield, but not really worth the money. Rune def is much better

 

Torags- good def, but repairing drags it down

 

Dragon Armor- waste of money for armor that gives slightly better def

 

Godswords- good, and strong, but the price is insane.

 

Bandos Boots- Drag boots... why pay 1.8m for something better worth 500k?

 

DH- Why waste money on this? it hits high, sure, but you need low hp, where any monster could get lucky and kill you.

 

Infinity- waste of money... period

 

Fury- 4m for something a few bonuses better than glory? i dont think so

 

Robin Hat/Range boots- way overpriced, mostly your paying for looks, when there alternatives with near equal bonuses.

- Full Dharok [Good off-hand set to use now and then while training]

 

- Full Verac [unless big monster hunting, nope]

 

- Full Ahrim [Not good for pking, and, most mage I do is safespot, and besides, mystic is cheaper]

 

- Whip [bEST melee weapon in the game IMO]

 

- Full Karil [Cant even wear ]

Like I said, Guthan isn't even that good. BTP > Guthans in many situations -- you don't have to risk spear in dangerous cases, and you don't have to switch weapons/armor every time you need to heal.

 

Just cause he doesn't use Guthan doesn't mean he's poor. I don't use Guthan...

 

 

 

Bandos is nowhere near Barrows defense. You're sacrificing ~30 slash defense for 4 strength bonus.

I said no guthans and I'm certianly not poor. It's just that food is cheaper and better than guthans will ever bee.
