Why outside forums > official forums

Recommended Posts

This topic is to discuss the reasons why outside forums (tipit, rs community, runehq, etc) are better than the official runescape boards.

The list is made up of mostly reasons by the posters, so if you feel something needs to be added, just post it. I was originally going to give credit to each person but it's too much of a hassle with multiple people saying the same things.

Reasons:

-Open to everybody, F2P or P2P

-No account action taken against you in game.

-Topics don't get bumped off the 50th page in the same day.

-More intelligent discussions and topics.

-Less spam.

-You dont need to write out your login and password EVERY time.

-You dont get logged out for inactivity.

-A censor to a lesser extent.

-No (or little) wannabe mods compared to rsb.

-You can actually post pictures.

-You can have sigs.

-You can have avatars.

-You can discuss irl.

-You can discuss other games.

-You can bash Jagex's rules and staff.

-You can link websites.

-You can post youtube videos.

-You can use colored chat effects.

-Drop down/hidden logs.

-You can actually post your pk pics. (Jagex's pk forum is a joke, you can SAY what you pk'd, but you have NO PROOF to back it up, or else you get banned)

-You can make topics like this.

Wow, I always though the RSOF was so much better than other forums because of its highly intellectual discussions and its high level of maturity but you're right.

Yeah, that was horribly immature of me to forget a simple grammar rule

you can do whatever the hell you like without some forum mod locking your posts for no reason. the Tip.it mods are great at their jobs =D> .

plus you can have a decent argument without wannabe's telling you to follow teh rulez

Overkill? You can not do Anything you want. The TIF has a place where you can show off sigs, ask for C/C, request sigs, people have free pages of how to make sigs, highlighting, coloring, etc.

i'd say tipit (specifically) isn't that much better than the official forums. i have yet to see a well thought-out rant here that isn't flamed down or spammed within a day. on the official forums, they're there if you're willing to look.

that, and most of the reasons people listed here are so that they can break the official forum's rules without being there, and with no punishment -.-

----

i have to disagree with that bit :(

my reason meant that the RSOF rules are unfairly strict. atleast in this forum you can actually type without being hounded by people in green background locking your posts and telling you to read a rule that doesn't make sense.

The answer is very simple. Outside forums have standards and the RSOF do not.

In keeping with Jagex's only significant priority -- making money at all costs -- they let anyone post, and bend over backwards to tolerate any and all antisocial behavior. That's why the place is a sewer.

Jagex does have other priorities and RSOF isn't on the top. I don't think they want to have to deal with everything, so they place really strict rules.

On the other hand, outside forums online have the forum (and possibly a site) to maintain.

That's why I mostly come here and just do trading on the RSOF when I need to.

on RSOF your thread falls down within 1 day if it isn't bumped.

Here on TIF they stay for a long time

He's using the possessive form in this case, so his initial post was correct.

Way to try and act smart without properly reading it:

... but please note that the possessive form of it does not take an apostrophe any more than ours, yours or hers do

"the bone is in its mouth"

Thus I think you'll find I'm actually right.

Now, I made my point. I think you'll find my "Grammar Nazi" ways actually had a point to them. Can we please end the spam?

In a minute. "It's" represents "it is" so unless you can say "it is" where "it's" is then it doesn't make sense.

Everyone's allowed to post - that was a good reason.

I ain't too familiar with many other outside forums, but tip.it > RSOF because the template and color of the text makes it so much easier to read. I generally dislike black backgrounds with white text; I give up reading long text when it's like that.

And the discussions here feel a bit more personal O:)

Well I'm not going to add anything new to the list.

Though overall, I just think all those reasons you listed contributed to the act of outside forums like TIF are much more costumized and friendlier to us players, and consequently are much more practical and fun to use.
