As I was browsing through the KB today, I found this nicely illustrated map of the world. "Oo, that's purty", said I, thinking it was nothing more than a hi-def version of the current map.

 

 

 

 

After inspecting the wilderness region, however, I found this section of the map that I was not familiar with.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Could this be the region "on the horizon" that Jagex was talking about? Only time will tell...

As for that area, that's the Members part of the Wilderness, look closely, you'll notice that the large lava area is the Wilderness Maze, and the other part is the Volcano area, along with the spot for the Hill Giants + Hunting Grounds. The round circle of lava is the Mage Arena. The rest is the other lava formations and whatnot.

Something I love about that picture is that it clearly shows planetary curvature. Kinda gives a slight indication as to what size the planet runescape is based on.

Harrington: Seems like we only have been exposed to a fourth or a fifth of the current Runescape world. Maybe the huge update will be the second continent?

It's the lava maze and Red Dragon Isle. They exist today, go visit them sometime (with nothing of course).

For some reason they decided to make lava white on that map. It's a bit confusing but it's nothing new.

Actually, it does look like an island from first glance. However, upon further inspection it does resemble the Red dragon Isle and Lava Maze, the ground jsut looks a little blueish.

That;s exactly it, but i do see why you thought it was a new area. Why is the floor blue? :-k

However the Mage Arena is a bit too small, showing the horizon as if it's farther than anything else.

Gielinor is pretty small. Probably more "Mars-like" sized, I guess. I thought it would have been bigger. Ah well. Good find.

 

 

 

EDIT: Judging by the geographic locations of Karamja and the Kharidian Desert, that might only be the northern hemisphere. You would think that near the equator it would be tropical/desert. But so far it seems that near the pole it's quite warm. This makes no sense (Yeah it Runescape, I know). Possibly we could expand south in this update instead of east as most people suggest.

this is not a new update but it was moved from the about section, or somthing like that, and that area that you boxed off is red dragen isle and the lava maze area its just with black and dark blue having little contrast I see where you may have been confused by thinking that it is new islands.

Its the upper wildy, not sure why its mis-colored. And, who the hell reported this post?
