Jagex - Launching two new games next years.

Featured Replies

hmm... it seems that JaGex tries to keep us going 'till the end.....

Making us expect sooo much.... Oh, and if you ever seen some of those pics that some players got off K'ril Tsutoroth.... you wouldn't be surprised that you have that pic....

Oh, and the guy in the back ground only has a d2h....

I doubt their stop Runescape alltogether, unless the new games get a lot new members...

i hope they dont end runescape any time soon.... i have a dream about working for them one day on runescape project though.... QA FTW

i even sent them a messege through cust support asking if there was a real email i can contact employment team with to ask a few questions... such as is a cv supposed to be a resume?!?! also one of there jobs said they probvide some relocation assistence... would they relocate me from united states if i couldnt afford lol? things like that except with better spelling and written a bit better... this is my casual type. when i wanna type pro i do it good.

When a company says that they will have something for at least five years, then that just means that it is in their five-year plan. Jagex, like most companies, establish a five year business plan to chart out their overall development for five years. Every three to six months, they will revise their five-year plan so that it always covers five years.

Runescape is listed in their five year plan as ongoing. In six months, when Jagex revises their plan again, Runescape will still be on the entire five year plan.

When talking to the press, they can't say that something will last 10 years or 15 years if their plan only goes out 5 years.

Don't get hung up on the five year thing, it's just standard business speak. It does not mean that RS will end in five years.

Well if you 18+ good luck with the job, it your under 18 unlucky you have to be that old to work there, good luck though either way.

And if Runescape was to end, it wouldn't mean the end of Jagex just the game. Which it wont well not for at least another years anyway.

You never know those screenies could be the next graphical update.

So saying there is going to be somthing big in January, could it be 1 of 2 new games, or even a new graphical update that looks as good as those images?

RuneScape 3(D)

RSC was 2D runescape 2 is 3d. im not sure how much more u want them to go, do you want to wear those cheesey glasses? 1 blue and 1 red.

Quite interesting the BBC did an article on Jagex :)

BTW: Is it just me, or do the graphics in those screenshots have much better graphics than the real RuneScape?

I don't recall being able to play at that resolution, with monsters having that clear textures.

There is no way that is real. Jagex most likely faked that picture. That is supposed to be in God Wars, right? I haven't been in God Wars, as I am F2P. But I was on there long enough to know Jagex could never pull such a stunt off with Java...

And two new games? Are you serious? MechScape, but what else?

If I remember right, Graardor does actually look a lot like that, I've never looked at him closely, but it seems like it.

At first when I read it, my thought was "only 5 more years? Aww, I wanted it to last forever"...Then I thought about it and realized that I'll be off to college and have other things in my life, so maybe it's not so bad after all.

it is bando's godwar main general. he looks very much like that.

not as detailed from the player pics, but its clearly the same guy.

Dedicated fans need not worry though as, said Mr Iddison, Runescape will be the main investment focus for Jagex for the next five years.

Sure, five years *is* a lot. But does this mean they'll soon drift away from RuneScape and put most of their effort elsewhere?

Being 5 pages and all now, if this is already been pointed out, I apologize. I only browsed through. :-w

My opinion: I will stick with runescape until it sinks beneath the lava maze!!!!!! I love the cheesy graphics, (i love games with bad graphics), and i also love games that are set in the same time period as Stronghold.

I have also worked too long and waaay too hard to just quit!

If there is 5 years left, that means that we have 157,680,000 seconds left until Jagex makes runescape a second-priority game!! Start Counting!!!!

Ok, now to calm down a bit.... Firstly, i dont't think that jAgex has the financial means to support another MMORPG. I think that the nature of these new games might be slightly moving in the AdventureQuest direction.

Secondly, I don't think runescape will disappear of the face off he planet. They might reduce it down to about 10 worlds or so, and stop making updates for it, but i think it will be more like rsc; were if you dont play for a while, your account gets deactivated. A good thing that would come of this is that there would finally be a time when you could walk without seeing a wanna-be monk with green pant and a tan shirt!

Now, for all of the people who think, "5 years only??? No more updates?!!?!?! That's crazy!!!!", Think of all the updates they will put in during the next 5 years.... Runescape has only been around for about 4...

I also think that to save from financial loss and maybe embaresment, runescape will still be fully operative until the new games either a: do well, or b: crash and burn.

I mean, if they Shrink runescape, then bring in the new games, and if the new games bomb, they will have to go to the time and effort to bring runescape back up to size. Then people will wonder, "hey, why did they take away runescape in the first place?" BINGO! JaGex looks bad! ( i'm not saying this will happen, just saying it might be a possobility)

In closing: I think that this situation is kindof like a treasure trail. You get the clue, and then you don't know how long or hard the journey is gonna be, or what reward your gonna get when you reach the end.

P.S. I think all the talking about that Bandos guy and the d2h wielder in the background is a little overrated and off-topic (just my opinion...)

I hope this game will be interchangeble betweem accs

I feel sad  I wanted Runescape to continue for another 10-15 years at least!

"300 programmers make their futile but glorious last stand against 1000000 angry players in The battle of Misthalin. They fight for honor, glory and new content sacrificing themselves so that their game may live on. This is Madness! This Is JAGEEEX!"

Well thats still pretty good bearing in mind most games die within 2 years. This has survived 5 years already and thats without any form of advertsing.

Here is what I think is going on. This is just a wild guess based on logic - I have no inside information.

I think they are about to release a new game that will be "linked" to Runescape. It has probably been developed specifically to be compatible with the RS engine (thus several of the recent engine updates - and their comments about the purpose of some of these being so they can bring better future updates). This would allow players the ability to move between the "games" in real time. It would also allow JaGex to avoid having two separate support staffs dealing with different engines.

There will be an extra charge for getting to this new game, but if you pay this charge you will probably be able to access this new game through a "portal" in RS. Of course, if someone who is not an existing RS player wanted to access this game independently, I'm sure there would be a way to sign up independent of RS.

This allows JaGex to give immediate access to this game to its entire existing RS customer base, and allows these customers to use their pre-existing payment methods to pay for this new game. This makes far more sense than launching an entire new standalone game that they would then have to market anew.

You will probably be allowed to take your RS character into the new world, but you will probably lose all of your character's attributes in the new world (i.e., you may keep your character's name, but nothing else). However, I hold open the possibility that they will allow some character attributes to transfer (much like the fact that if you move from F2P to P2P, you keep all your F2P levels, but all of your "member's skills" levels start at zero). Allowing some skill transfer would provide an incentive for existing RS players to also pay for this new game.

This structure would allow RS to potentially double its revenue in a very short period of time, and because it is doing this through an offering of a new game, it will meet with far less resistance than if it were to try to increase its revenue by simply doubling the monthly subscription fee for RS.

I doubt that it would have though it would be far to hard to create a new engine and make it fully interactive with a old engine.

If it is a MMORPG which they HAVNT confirmed yet i would most likely be seperate from runescape.

Tbh 5 years... Hmmm so that will be my 9th, nearing 10th, year of playing it (If i were to continue playing it for those 5 years... =/)

Well let me sum this up, allegedly even the "youngest" 13 year old players in 5 years time will be 18, meaning they'll be looking for universities/full time jobs. Then i will be 20, So there's me starting my second year of a Media course.

Looking at this most of the teenage community who currently play will probably be gone leaving a minor few should still be playing, I say this because I have friends who no longer come into school because they are actually obsessed with RuneScape.

Yes you may say that "well new players will constantly come into the game". And with this I agree with you but say they join 3 or so months before the end of this 5 year period, they will almost certainly become accustomed to getting an update every week (If they don't run out of ideas...) and then BOOM! straight out of nowhere, most, if not all attention will be focused on these new games and slowly but surely the runescape updates will die out, every player will either get bored and leave or complete every manageable thing in the game and then leave.

After this i will put it simply, One of the most successful internet games to of come out of anywhere in the last 6 years will of died out...

Nice long winded post for ya. =p

Tbhyespl0x.jpg

Now, for all of the people who think, "5 years only??? No more updates?!!?!?! That's crazy!!!!", Think of all the updates they will put in during the next 5 years.... Runescape has only been around for about 4...

The first version of RuneScape was released to the public on 4 January 2001. Sorry my man i believe that makes it exactly 6 years 10 months and 11 days...

Tbhyespl0x.jpg

Did this stand out to anyone else as much as it did to me?

Dedicated fans need not worry though as, said Mr Iddison, Runescape will be the main investment focus for Jagex for the next five years.

Yes, 5 years at least.. what happens then? My guess is it just won't be jagex's main concern and we get less updates (I have a ton to do anyways)

And btw, I can't wait for the new games. I'm staying runescape 100% I want the scammers, noobs, and gold farmers to leave though.

Probably just how far in the future they plan, but even if they stop focussing on RS and i don't like the other games, I will be happy for the next 10 years. At the rate I play, it will take me five years to do everything, but by then I will still have five years of content from all the new updates they release.

Why do I feel that Runescape has contracted a terminal disease, like, it won't affect it for a long time, but eventually it will die unnaturally early?

I appreciate that 5 years is a long time, but I really think that trying to place a life expectancy on such a great game is beyond cruel. In fact, they are fulfilling their life expectancy by predicting it in the first place. They really didn't have to do that. <.<

~ W ~

sigzi.png

people are thinking to far into the future. peoples tastes and opinions change, even more so after 5 years. who knows who will still be playing. if runescape will last well for the next 5 years, i see no reason that jagex would have to cut it.
