November 15, 200718 yr The entire forum would be ported over to phpbb3, with the possible exception of some of the archives. This would include rank, etc. The only reason some of the archives would remain unconverted is the incredible amount of time to convert such a large forum.

User's love their post counts, if Tip.It were to move, I think many members would leave to another forum. But I think there is a way to transfer the data of phpbb2 to phpbb3 as it's on the site there anyways.

They don't support transfer from 2 to 3 during the betas but now that it's in the RC releases the converter is supplied and upgrades are supported, though they don't recommend running a production forum (like Tip.It or anything you remotely think is valuable) using the RC releases, because they could still contain bugs.
November 16, 200718 yr Also, for those who want to know about the comparison, and haven't found it, or couldn't find it: http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/ There's many things in there that are being suggested, or posted upon, I don't know, but perhaps make a sticky regarding phpbb2, and phpbb3, to reduce the topics about phpbb3 and transferring and all that? Just until the forums are moved. Amount of topics may not warrant a sticky though.

Krumdin, our servers, our site, and our forums are all maintained by out administrative team. Right now, being restated for the g_64 time, the phpbb group don't advise, and it's commons sense to not upgrade until the stable release of phpbb3, because this is a big forum, not some random forum for your club or something. I hope we will end up upgrading to phpbb3, they do make upgrades for a reason >_> Last.fm Signature Overlays
November 23, 200718 yr Tip.it won't upgrade to phpbb until it goes gold. (A full, bug-free release) When this happens, there will probably be some down time, but it should come back almost the same as it was before. I think that the admins will eventually move, considering a number of legitimate suggestions have been postponed until phpbb3. (Like styles, etc.) (Granted, I don't know anything specific, but these are observations)

That and they are '1337' (Elite) in knowing how PhpBB works, because they built it. Look at http://forums.xkcd.com for an example of PhpBB3 with the info on the left side of user posts. (Disclaimer: Link may not be safe for work or for children under 17.) I don't actually use their forums as more than a guest, but they're the only example I can think of on the fly. ~Mr. D. V. Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.)
