Monday Poll: Have you ever been scammed by a friend?

Featured Replies

Kind of a sad topic, but have you ever had a friend take an item that you loaned them and disappear? Sometimes, those Gp are worth more than a conversation... Make sure to go to the main site and cast your vote.

I'll just say that I've been very trustworthy of my friends, so I've lost more than a fair share of stuff.

My real life friend stole uncut gems from me when I was a new player. I didn't care too much though, surprisingly. :|

Yes I have Misplaced. I thought I could trust certain friends, but after a while they scammed me. I wonder why it's so hard to find friends who won't back-stab you.

Yep, most important item I lost was a red party hat, my favourite item, stolen on my 16th birthday =/

I've never been scammed by a friend in game. Every item i've loaned has been given back, and i've even been helped to regain items that i've lost in group events (i.e. dying at dag kings).

My ingame experiences with friends has been great so far.

Once. When i was a new player, a friend scammed me out of rune platelegs. In this case, the friend was worth more than the cash. That player has been firmly on my ignore list ever since. I did learn something from it though.

Me and my best runescape friend used to dm all the time and always gave our stuff back to eachother.. One time i wore full dh and skulled thinking that he would give it back.. i ran out of food and didnt run and he didnt give it back. After i asked him why he logged. Suprisingly i valued his friendship over the dh and losing both felt like [cabbage]. Hes been on my ignore list ever since.

I have no friends. Jk, I've never really traded with any of the people on my friends list except for the ones I know in rltm.

I would put a cool link here but I don't know how.

I have a person that thinks hes my friend but he really is the most annoying person ever. A while back he let me try his obby sword which was worth about 50k at the time. He claimed it was worth a bunch more. I let him hold 200k while I tried it out and he just sat there logging out and in nonstop. I then later became his "friend" again. He wanted me to trust him to wear my ranger set. Lol not gonna happen.

I have had it happen to me a few times, but, they were small items, but, that trained me to never give out my stuff no matter how well I knew them.

I have only given out a substantial amount of money to one person, and one person alone. It was about 9M (my entire cash pile at the time), and it was to a tipiter I knew I could trust.

Just about all of my friends are real life friends, and if they scammed me, i can kick them. Multiple times. So, I'm all set, sorry to the less fortunate who've been scammed by friends they held dear by the way.

Besides, none of my friends would probably want to scam me. I help them, protect them, and make them stuff when they need it. They'd be losing money by scamming me

a couple months baack i saw him on for the first time tho, im guessing that he sold his acc...

No, I'm not stupid enough to put myself in such a situation. The only people I trust are rl friends.

I let my friends wear my phats, santas, masks, just about anything. I've never had any problems with them.

I had a friend that i had know since i was 5 months old, we both played runescape about the same amount but i was always better than him someday he got so jelous that he changed my password by puting in the recovery questions and took about 7 mil worth of stuff and droped a bunch of quest items

edit:w00t first page

stole 11 party hats 19 masks and 12 santas off me after we had been friends 9 years online, he has been perm banned for several years for keylogging hundreds of people.

One of my real life friends, who I will not name, (and who's forum name rhymes with jerk) has borrowed money from me several times and has not payed it back, which is kind of scamming me but not really. In his defense, he got key-logged so he needed the money more than I did.

One of my in-game friends has pestered me for money a lot and tried to guilt me into giving him money when I got lucky at barrows. I'm kind of glad to say that he isn't on RS much anymore because he turned into more of an annoyance than a friend. To be honest, I feel bad that I helped him and then he couldn't function in RS without my help (I would help him mine ore and do clues and quests etc.)

Those are the 'friends' you really don't need and should delete/ignore immediately ::'

Never scammed by friend luckily... :)

Once I lend out 100k to my friend (dunno him in RL), he gave me 100,001gp back!! (I said I want 1gp interest)

I've been scammed my friends twice. First time I lost 800k in cash and items to my best friend who was level 83 at the time. Second time I lost 50k, but to a friend who was level 100 something with a cooking cape. It's really sad how you can't always trust high-level players not to scam or decieve you. You'd think that they'd know better :shame: .
