Be careful when driving! (Even at slow speeds)

Featured Replies

A few days ago, my sister's classmate's sister was with her mom trying to learn to parallel park. The mom was outside the car setting up cones or something when the girl accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes. And the mother died. I didn't know them, but I can't possibly imagine how someone could live with that guilt of causing the death of a parent. RIP.

That is one of the most depressing things I have ever heard.

Things like that suck. I've heard and read all those stories about driving accidents, it's quite scary (even though some were meant to be like that in order to have an effect on me, I know). I can't drive yet but when I'll be able to I'll be as careful as possible. Damaging a person 'only' would be terrible, especially when it can be prevented (and the thought of going to jail isn't very encouraging either).

I don't think I could have lived with myself after doing something like that :(

im just learning to drive.. hope nothing like that ever happens to me or anyone i know :?

I did that once, except I ran over a bush and I was parking in a lot.

quite sad.

how sad. its so hard to live the rest of your life with that kinda feeling stuck inside of u. hope she feels better.

:( Anyways, how is driving lesson being conducted in your country?

If parallel parking is to be taught in my country, its the student to disembark from the vehicle, and the tutor set up the cones or stands... once everything is done, the student gets in and begins the lessons with the tutor outside giving inch by inch instructions..

Its 100% safe.. i really cannot understand how that happened.. RIP

This is sad sorry to hear it happen, I once when i was younger you the car in backwards, was suppose to push it lightly to back it up abit , but pushed is hard and zoomed backwards some. then i hurry and pushed the break. lucky no one was behind me and lucky it was a long drive way.

In Australia, you drive on your L's without someone with their Open liscence in the car, you'll be losing your L's.
Ryta Deriso, 44, was mowed down Thursday afternoon as she stood on their lawn alongside their house

That's really sad :(

In my area (Australia) about a month ago a Mum was taking her daughter for a driving test and the duaghter lost control and drove the car into a big ditch. The daughter lived but the Mum was killed instantly.

I didn't know them but knew someone that did. I wouldnt be able to live if i killed 1 of my parents

That really stinks!!!!! I would be so mad at myself if I did that... that horrible feeling all the time...

I remember when i was driving without my liscence....I was parking my bro-in-laws truck. I pushed the gas instead of the brake, barely missed the parked car in front of me. It freaked the daylights out of me. Never happend again........But another time, with my car, i parked it. I thought i put it in park, but i didnt, i let go of the brake and i hit the car in front of me   Lucky i hit their liscne plate, nothing happend to their car, but i scratched up mine :(.

Kind of the same thing happend at my old high skool. Some girl, during lunch, hit the gas instead of the brake. She ran over somebody, bending him in half. He was stuck under the car for hours alive. I can't exactly remember if he survived or not, but the girl that did it, now lives in the builidng across from me......and i know her too, she's romanian.

As for the mom in the article, RIP. It's really tragic, but it happens quite a lot.

Here in rural australia everyone knows how to drive by the age of like 5 so i really dont know how you could confuse the pedals :S. RIP to the mum.... poor girl.

Only sad thing in that story is that girl not knowing where to put her feet.

Might sound evil, but the death of the mother was an accident and the daughter could of paid more attention to the driving lessons...

Now something real evil: Women and cars...

were you trying to be funny?

This is why it should be law that you can only start learning to drive in a car with dual control and a licensed instructor! Then in now way can you confuse the brake with the accelerator. Also, why bother using cones? When I was learning to drive, we just did it around a car. Incredibly slowly, and with the instructor's foot on his brake admittedly, but no cones involved.

That could have been prevented so easily: by using the handbrake. When we're taught, whenever we come to a complete stop (such as traffic lights), we should put the handbrake on and take it out of gear. Then there's no risk of us doing anything stupid. If the mother or daughter had just used their heads, then this wouldn't have happened. Yes I'm sorry and all, but it makes me more angry than sad, especially as this was a needless, and completely preventable, death.
