Minimum price caps!?

Minimum Price Caps?

This was something hitting me hard this morning. I have been compiling a huge list of prices on the grand exchange and how they have been changing the first few days after release. So far it seems like Jagex are doing an price update every 23 hours or so. It will probably even out to 24 hours in the long run.

But some prices seem to be moving along quite slow. More specifically. They are not moving at all!. Had these items already reached their price equilibrium? I went on a mission to find out.

After a lot of testing five items was behaving strange. The first. Gold bars.

Gold bars had been at 221 (minimum 210) for 3 days. Personally I have been trying to get rid of my gold bars for two days at minimum price. It should come as no surprise that I have not manage to sell any yet. What is surprising though is that the prices is not decreasing when jagex are doing price updates. I tried buying a bar at minimum price, I bought one instantly (no surprise there).

Is Jagex having minimum caps on items? If this is the case I think I must puke as gold bar selling trough the GE just became obsolete.

I'm suspecting minimum price caps on various other items aswell. I will have my "100% sure" evidence conclusion ready by tomorrow on those.

Interesting concept, and although I'm starting to dislike and distrust JAGeX more and more, I don't believe they would set minimum prices.

Maybe certain items that are overpriced are not being bought in any large amount because they are cheaper elsewhere therefore Jagex thinks that their price is good because so few have been bought at the expensive price

When many people are selling at minimum price. But no one is buying prices are supposed to decrease. Not stay the same.

This works on most items, but some items seem to have reach a "minimum cap". Thats the discussion here. #-o

I hate how there is minimum price caps.

I should be able to sell my items for whatever amount i want.

And the same for everyone else.

P2P offers more and better ways of making money than f2p. That's one of the cons you just have to play with if you don't feel like having 1 bigmac meal less per month.

No. The prices of items only change when they are sold. What price they are sold at relative to the normal price(5% up or down) determine if they rise or fall. So if nobody is buying at minimum price, just normal, and they get sales, nothing happens. If they get successful sales up or down of the normal price, then the price gets adjusted.

In that case it is a really strange system and the 5%+- should be changed to something bigger.

Because if (example:) 1000 people are trying to sell their chefs hat for 10k each (lets say that is the bottom price) but no-one is interested in buying the prices should decrease to expand the demand for the item. That is pretty basic supply and demand knowledge.

Likewise if 500 people are trying to buy addy ore at 500 gp each (lets say that is the maximum price) but no one is willing to sell for that price, the price on addy ores should increase to create more supply. Again pretty basic stuff here.

No. The prices of items only change when they are sold.

I specifically asked about this on Monday and was told by a J mod that it wasn't true.

Despite that, there are many items that are not changing in price.

This system was, is and will continue to be a mess until Jagex stops mucking with market forces.

I agree that Jagex is not doing a good job of keeping up with prices. Also, Jagex needs to up the limit of things we can put into the exchange. Even with the initial hype and everyone clearing their banks, it's still next to impossible to buy/sell certain items. When the hype dies down, I see GE as being a place where only very common items are bought and sold.

What's the high alch on gold bars? I don't think Jagex will let the GE price drop below the high alch price. They might not want to provide a mechanism for free and easy mage training and huge profits to boot. If that's what's going on, there may well be some items that cannot be sold through the GE. If that's what's going on, I'd suggest to Jagex to lower the high alch price.

It appears that they're updating prices at least twice a day now. When I got on yesterday the prices had been updated as expected and then later in the night they updated again while I was playing. I started getting notices that my sales had updated and the system was going through updating prices item by item so I got 6 different notices over 15 minutes or so, each time for a price change.

I haven't looked at gold bars so I can't comment on them specifically.

It appears if items aren't selling they only adjust the price by 5%. this leads to small price changes especially for lower priced items. If something is priced at 500 that should be 200, it'll take quite some time to balance out as opposed to something priced at 500,000 that should be priced at 450,000.

Interesting. I'll be realy disappointed with Jagex if thats the case.

Price range is one thing, but putting min limits... :shame:

The GE is such a great feature, dont ruin it.improve it.

I have this sara page stuck at the exchange for few days now.

I might check its price tonight - i think its initial (min)price was 61k..wonder if its changed :-k

since you were able to buy 1 instantly, the price will not drop lower, it may go up infact... provided no one else buys. but, most likely people ARE buying them slower then gold smithers turn them into bars.

If he was able to buy one instantly it means tons of sellers are trying to dump them with no buyers. So in theory, the price should drop.

The high alch on gold bars is 180.

Here's another snag with Jagex's little attempt at price controls -- high alch values only mean something if you take into account the price of a nat. Nobody is going to sit around high alching gold bars unless the price of nats REALLY drops.

well heres how i see it as a possibility. assume supply is high and demand is not low, but substantial but not over whelming infact might be a bit weak but definitely not dead, the prices will not move, but may grow.

provided the mechanics of the price updates are working how, they should, or we(I?) think. then, starts the algebra gold bars being available instantly suggests a high amount readily available. then the idea that he cannot sell his instantly would suggest, either A, no one is buying B, hes late in a long line. now heres where the hinge point is since they do not move in price, it suggests that either, they are being bought to support their current price, or a bug in the price updating.

I finally sold my black mystic tops in the GE. I still haven't sold the bottoms. Hopefully we will have more buyers on the weekend.

Do we really need a min price cap?

The only purpose I see them serving is to set prices for Player Stock in General Stores. -.- Which stinks anyways.

why are you asking? he asked if their might be one. which suggest you did not read this thread, then followed up with an assumed, yet logical post derived solely from the title.

at least thats how I saw it.

Obviuosly it's not going to change because no1 is buying them. The price changers only work if people are buying and selling those items, that gives the system something to change it with.

Hmmm....

I need a new siggy, get round to doing it later.

Probably.
