The Hobbit - Now its official

Featured Replies

Peter Jackson gonna produce two movies with Fran Walsh, director havnt been chosen yet.

You can read more in the movie site

Personally i am looking forward for that one.

I think that Jackson work with the LOTR trilogies was amazing.

You could see alot of love& respect in his work to Tolkien's books (especially in the first one) and i believe this case, though he will only be the producer, wont be diffrent..

shame the movies are scheduled to 2010& 2011

I was waiting for this, I knew it would happen.

Personally, I think The Hobbit is better than LOTR anyway.

Dragons ftw.

Yea, definitely. :XD: Plus, it's the only one of the books that I've actually read. And wow, it was awesome. Can't wait for the movie.

Don't worry, it'll still be crammed full of as much CGI as you can possibly imagine!

Wheee!

Good stuff :)

The story's 999% of the film, the rest is just frippery. :P

Anyways, this is great, I can't wait to see it.

If Peter Jackson was writing/directing them, then this would be great news. Since he isn't, I am not getting my hopes up.

Hehe I was gonna post this yesterday  I read about it here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071218/ap_ ... the_hobbit

As a lover of all the books and movies, I'm really excited! Just a shame, as you said, that we have to wait 2+ years for it :ohnoes:

I feel his name has been tied onto it in a marketing attempt.

I dont expect him to have much input at all.

Very true^

Most likely. Executive producers do have a good deal of input though, mostly just with veto powers. If they don't like the director, they can replace them. If they don't like the way something is done, they can have it redone. However the director is still the one who does the creative parts. Jackson will also be able to accept/reject the screenplay, that is if he is an active executive producer and not just a name on the movie.

Wow, that's crappy. :( I hope he will be convinced otherwise, and at least participate in directing the movie or it's script/screenplay adaption from book->movie.

Good thing a producer usually can say what fits a movie and what doesn't, so he can probably persuade the director to make changes to totally horrible-looking scenes or stuff that just doesn't sync with LOTR. *imagines a 16-year old with a crackling voice and fake beard play Gandalf due to budget reasons*

Here is some more info. To sum it up:

Peter Jackson will be writing the screenplays, he can't write during the strike of course but he is tied up until February anyways, so all in all the movies are planned for 2011 and 2012.

Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Evil Dead) looks to be the prime candidate for director.

Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) is also rumored to be in consideration, if Raimi doesn't work out.

Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) was also mentioned.

None of this is set yet, it's all unofficial.

I'm still waiting for someone to try to make a movie out of the epic mess that is the Sillmarillion.

I hope it wouldn't be any of them

though the spiderman movies were quite entertaining Raimi doesnt strike me as a director with a powerful vision.

Most of del Toro movies have a strong fantasy elements but personally i didnt find any of them to be realy good.

And Alfonso Cuaron, though i realy loved Y tu mamÃÆÃâÃâá tambiÃÆÃâÃâén i think his work on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban(which i think was quite decent btw) showed that maybe the fantasy Genere isn't his natural playground.

You mean like all the foreign films which are slated as "Quentin Tarantino Presents..." I hate when studios do stuff like that, how thick do they think people are, they pulled the same crap when they had Speilberg "Excecutive Produce" Transformers in order to deflect from the fact that it's really a Michael Bay film.

That being said, I don't really care too much about "The Hobbit." I didn't care too much for the first 2 LOTR films and refused to see the 3rd, because of that I'll probably give this a miss.

I'm a del Toro fan, and am OK with the others. I really think del Toro would be great for the movies. A few other places are saying that Raimi basically has it though.

Oh My God yes!!! :D

Can't wait to see it once it gets into theaters.

Sounds awesome. I thought the battles in LOTR were good, I can't wait until the Battle of Five Armies. :P

I wonder if they're going to attempt to fit the footage at the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring in (The part where they show Gollum losing the ring and Bilbo finding it, during Galadriel's explanation of the ring)

Hopefully, it doesn't kill the series. And I'm not sure about the two-film thing...It might destroy it...But it could make it so much better.

I love the hobbit :) I've read it so many times, I probably know the songs by heart heh. Lots of things I want to see, like Beorn, Mirkwood, laketown, and the wood elf's fortress ^_^

I've tried to read the Silmarillion, but of what I understood it's lots of different stories over hundreds of years, I don't think it would work somehow. :-s
