Well i'm tired Of all these people Making new names and posting irrelevant stuff, like: Pornagraphic images, Keyloggers Thus all this could be stopped by IP banning

One magical word: "Proxy".

Staff have the ability to look at IP addresses and ban them if necessary. If someone is posting porn or keyloggers on different accounts, the staff will know and take care of it. This part of forum security is completely covered. :)

Personally I havn't seen any of that on the forums, as if somthing is bad like that it's normally deleted 10-60 seconds after its been viewed and reported.

I'd think that the staff is smart enough to notice there 5 accounts with the same IP and banned for the same reasons, in which they'd IP ban them.

So let's have those who have one computer per house hold, and have 3 different people who use Tip.It daily.

The point of the username, and password is entirely for the point above. If it were IP per computer, then usernames wouldn't be needed.

As well IP bans aren't worth much nowadays...Have to take it a step further than IP's.

You are never tired of seeing 18+ stuff, I've known you too long for that :P

But, I still agree with you, all those spam stuff irritates me, and sometimes people post images that I really don't want to see (oh and keyloggers, but keyloggers (hopefully) wont be used (a lot) anymore).

Like what? Unless the rulebreaker uses another computer, the IP ban is the end of him. Usernames have nothing to do with it.

You obviously have no clue what a proxy or dynamic IP is then. It's trivially easy to change your IP and get around single IP bans if you have any idea what you're doing.

No I don't :anxious:

The staff does use IP bans regularly with our most problematic users. But you seem to be making the assumption that people cannot/do not use proxies. Even if we IP ban someone, they can use a proxy to get around that ban.

And porn, keyloggers, etc. cannot be "stopped" by IP banning. It seems like you're making the assumption that all this is coming from one person, which it isn't. We have (different) random morons who sign up every day so they can get a laugh (on their end  ) by spamming the forum with one thing or another. Even if we IP ban one person and they do not use a proxy, that doesn't stop someone else from signing up the next day and spamming the same thing.

I am sure this is a stupid question to ask, but you do ban most of the public proxies right?

Quite a few forums do that.

There are MANY ways people can change their IP address in an instant; people can even steal your IP address!

This was occurring on the real life photo thread on OT with porn being posted by users making several accounts through proxies. I gave an idea to Tripsis about putting a post count of at least 30 to post pictures on the forums (besides on the achievement forum).

Does that sound like a reasonable idea to stop these pictures? Or is it a bad thing? I'm for it, though I don't know obviously what the admins thought about it when Tripsis said she'd discuss it with them. :?

100 or higher sounds like a better limit in my eyes. 30 posts can easily be breezed through in a day if you're feeling malicious enough to go through with it.

I think that there should be a 50 post limit to post new topics. If they spam, they'll be reported and have their post account reverted to 0.

Yes we do have a proxy blocker, but that doesn't catch all of them.

I've never been one who likes post requirements in order to do certain things. Sure we could have a post requirement to post images, but I don't doubt that the people who were going to spam porn switch to something they can do like excessive swearing.

I'm hoping you meant all, not any :P

We'll considering you have to be legally 13 to visit these forums, I say quite convincingly that, all 13 year olds (who we are looking out for on these boards) have come across swearing in their lives, but I'd say less than half would of seen porn before. I'd pick the spammers swearing any day of the week over posting porn on these boards.

So that's why I'd like to see a minimum post count for posting images and starting new threads (besides in the rate this section). This will definitely stop the amount of spammers and obviously those posting nasty pictures. And seeing someone swear on the forums really isn't that big of a deal, compared to posting pornographic pictures.

Also Cruiser I find that a 30 post count would be sufficient. By the time they get to their 30th post of spam they would of easily already been reported (numerous times) and then seen to be spammers and their accounts would have been blocked. If I were a spammer I'd of given up by then and I suppose the vast majority would of lost hope and went to another forum to spam, since if their main aim is to post porn pictures they would of lost all hope by then. Surely!

I'd like the admins to reconsider the minimum post count for posting pictures and making threads outside of the Rate this Forum (oh and also maybe Website updates and Corrections), I believe it'd be a lot more positive to the TIF Community than negative.

You don't have to be 13 to join the forums, just 13+ to join by your self, you can be 12 and have a parent fax the little forum thingy.

And to the "People need 30 posts to make a new topic" would just provick(sp?) people to spam until 30, and the staff wouldn't be able to keep up with resetting peoples post count to zero, it's just a horrible idea that would bring tip.it down.

About post requirements, and so we aren't going over what we've said before:

http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=700 ... sc&start=0

And maybe for the heck of it:

http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=702164&start=0

Though, it may have been another topic where 5 users including myself had posted larger and better idea's against the post requirement, but I can't find them? -.-

would just provick(sp?)

I disagree strongly. You have no idea how hard that would hit us on the Crew if you followed that through. Around a third of Tip.It users do not use the forums. When a new update is released, we rely on current users plus this third for our information.

They set up accounts and start posting topics about corrections in the Website U&C. Typically, the threads I see there have been posted by users with a post count of 1.

People are able to post pornography on the site, no matter what we do. The only thing that can be done realistically is deleting the topics and pictures as soon as possible.
