I know this sounds weird coming from someone with 2k+ post count (I had like 300 before I became a moderator, damn those lock messages :P ), but quality > quantity. If the incentive was meant to make people stick around, make it about join date instead of amount.

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?

This would just give another reason for people to spamm more to get to 2k posts, your intentions are good, as it seems like a good idea but whats established now works great. Just PM a mod if you want a poll opened.

This suggestion has been put forward with benign intent, but I fear many would merely spam the boards to get their post count higher in order to gain such privilages, thus reducing the overall quality of the forums.

On those grounds allow, I'd have to say no.

IMO, if the Tif were to have special benefits for some users (excluding Mods and Crewbs), it shouldn't be based on post count. If anything, it would make users try to post more empty, worthless posts (if not spam) in order to get those 2000 they'd need.

For this idea to be effective, we'd have to have a "rep"-system or something similar on these boards, and we know that's not going to happen.

Also I'd think this would create an "elite" of posters (there are only 188 people with 2k+ posts), making the community less friendly overall.

This signature is intentionally left blank.

If you think your post really deserves a poll, remember you can PM a mod to add one if he agrees

And because we see only polls by the staff, or the odd poll by the user every several of months, there is no reason this needs to be done for polls mainly, because if there were good poll idea's, there'd have been a lot more.

Some people at those high ranks still don't know all the rules or still break some, surprisingly.

Exactly my thoughts. You'd be surprised at how many people with high post counts have a long list of forum offenses. Of all things, this would only encourage the Multiple replies in H&A "issue" (and others). Having a high post count definitely doesn't mean that the person knows what is appropriate and what is not.

It takes but a minute to PM a moderator and request that a poll be created. If the moderator agrees that a poll is worth having, it will be created, simple as that.

Maybe a new rank can be made that is called, "Trusted Member"? They must have a high post count, have joined at least a certain amount of time ago, have a clean slate, etc. That rank can make polls, lock their own topics, edit their own post reports, or more. Maybe that might work better? :-k

Same as a senior member?

http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=699423 < - - not the topic I was looking for, but darkblade outlines what I was looking for.

Couldn't find the topic about senior members, and ranked members. Went to page 10, basically I was trying to find what most of the staff's opinion was on members being ranked, and privileged, but if I go to far back, it doesn't really do justice to what their opinions are now. I don't know, couldn't find the topic, but most of the staff (forum mods) who posted were in the negative about it, as well as some members.

I think something that Killerred005 is getting at is the fact that some people are too scared to ask out of fear of rejection. At the same time, however, I understand why polls would need to be controlled, even though I feel that people's thinking/creativity should not be squashed as much as is possible. Maybe limit insta-poll-enables where Mods/Admins don't have to be PM'ed to just members who have been around a while AND are making a thread with at least a reasonable point only then, and with the penalty in place that failing to have such a reasonable point, as well as having the poll be a part of such would result in loss of privelege? I know it would mean that on the first or second mistake that a person would be permanently shot, but it is the best I can think of. :-s

I agree :oops: Something like that would require much more moderation than the system we have now. If they're too afraid to ask for a poll, then they probably don't want it that badly ;) It's not like being rejected counts against you or anything.

I don't know where you would put it, but could you put a note somewhere that says something along the lines of, "If you wish to have a poll added to your thread, please don't hesitate to PM a moderator or admin to request one."

I was actually just thinking that. I'll poke around a bit tomorrow and see if there's a place that I could smoothly add it in. If you have any ideas, don't keep 'em quiet ;)

Is there a way to send a PM to everyone?

EDIT: Tripsis, while you are at it, why don't you suggest that after people's H&A Posts are answered, to keep the threads the way they are, this way other users can see them rather than making a new one.

I am the prime example of why time part of community and post count mean nothing :P

Former mod, banned quite a number of times for a wide range of things and general "line walker" for the most part :P

Just report your post and ask for a poll. Easy peasy. :)

@Tripsis

You could add it in the rules, somewhere in 1.6 to 1.9, changing the 1.9 to 1.10 though. Then again somewhere between 2.2 and 2.4, or just add it in to 2.2?

And I have to go to school shortly, can't look in many places. >.>

Is there a way to send a PM to everyone?

Yes, but we're unable. ::'

(Yes, you're that funny, the both of you.)

Yes, but we're unable. ::'

Which really stinks, skatedog111. Recently, I noticed a couple of threads where I wished to PM both the Mod that locked them because I felt it was unfairly locked for some reason, and send a copy simultaneously to an Admin because I felt that they needed to have a word with the Mod.

For example, this one:

http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=731170

I'm not particularly out to shame someone here. But I did want to make a point in regard to the mass PM issue. BlueLancer misinterpreted the thread as just another picture to drop in the pictures thread, but the person who made the thread, sarge1010, was trying to discuss the strange change in their signature, which affects all RuneWeb.Net signature users, and possibly understand why it was occurring. Well, I could see I might not get anywhere by PM-ing the Mod, and thought that If I could have involved an Admin simultaneouly from the start, there might have been a chance of getting the thread unlocked for further discussion.

Maybe we could have a small mass PM ability, like 2 or 3 users at the same time at maximum, just for these kinds of things? Or possibly a "Wrongful Lock" report option that would only be usable in the event that a thread was locked? Maybe further limited by time and/or quality of posts within the total post count, which would limit it to those who were actually reasonable community members? :-s

I doubt this would work, it would encourage spam and make a sense of elitism similar to RuneHQ's advance members (which I loathe, because it's a waste). If anything you should go bo by joining date, but even that isn't perfect. The current system seems fine to me, as has been said you can always ask an admin/mod if you want to do a poll.
