Do you own any gaming gems? (some interesting reads)

A feature on the rarest/most expensive games for the NES/SNES/Saturn/PS1/N64

Some interesting tidbits...

- Ultimate gaming gem is the 1990 Nintendo World Championships: Gold Edition cartridge ($5,100 - $20,000)

- Of course...seeing as the SNES and N64 packaging was rather flimsy (boxes which were torn apart within days of buying the game maybe) boxed copies fetch big bucks... a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger for the SNES showed up on ebay and fetched $1,200 (and a sealed copy of FFVII, seen here (http://cgi.ebay.com/Sealed-Black-Label-Playstation-Final-Fantasy-VII-7-PS1_W0QQitemZ150226539620QQihZ005QQcategoryZ62053QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) fetched $405)

-A copy of "Bubble Bath Babes" (lol censored? controversial NES puzzle type game featuring a naked pixelated woman at the bottom of the screen... you've probably heard of it?) could fetch around $1,000 :o

Maybe you own a gem?

The only one out of any of those games that I have is a black label (not greatest hits.. original) copy of Castlevania Symphony of the Night... which was purchased in 1997. According to the website it's $57-$66... but I really don't know what I could get for mine, seeing as there's 2 minor cracks in the case and scratches over the disc... it works fine though and is for the most part in good looking shape with the original case and booklet (promoting metal gear solid on the back).

Also, there's a website that is the penultimate source of video game prices and even has monthly charts of the rise/fall in prices of most video games out there... at http://www.videogamepricecharts.com/

I own Ogre Battle 64, which I bought at my local video rental store for $10 :). Along with that, I have Harvest Moon 64, which I bought at EBGames for about $80. It was worth every penny though.

My local video store was selling all of the N64 games they had for $10, I should have bought some more... But I'm happy I managed to get Ogre Battle :D.

EDIT: Looking through that list, I realized that the video store had a number of those gems for the PS1. Those Lunar games, Suikoden 2, Valkyrie Profile, and probably a few more. Too bad I didn't know the value of games back then :P.

Cartridges only I assume? Still nice though :) I've never played Ogre Battle 64 or Harvest Moon.

Heh... time to be on the lookout then I guess.

The video store had a practice of photocopying the booklets, and putting the boxes on shelves with a plastic covering. They kept everything in the boxes, like those health information things, subscription forms, and anything else that came with the box. Many of the boxes were in good condition too. So when you bought a game, you'd get everything that came in the box. Unfortunately, they also put these stickers on the manuals and cartridges, and wrote store information on the cartridges too. CD's also had writing on them, and not to mention scratches from use...

Although I didn't get a manual with my Ogre Battle game, it was one of the few games they rented out the real manual with. I assume it got damaged/stolen.

In a magazine I read from about 1 year and a half ago, it said Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow was about $100, so I bought it for $17 at my local Gamestop. I checked the site and it's only like $15...stupid Nintendo Power....

I remember reading that. I had the game too, and I was pretty sure it wasn't worth that much.

It's a GBA game, how could it possibly go for that much? Well according to VG pricing charts, it was worth $19.49 in December 2006, and $18.22 last month... but this month it's back down to $15.92  (the guy that controls this site is a freak)

I have the gold cartridges of Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 for NES.

Not sure how much they're worth.

Probably only about 10-15$ for both combined, the more expensive NES games are mostly ones i've never heard of... like I would imagine California Raisins: The Grape Escape would be pretty hard to find :(

I used to own Earthbound(worth $90, at its peak was $340), I have the box somewhere. But about 7 years ago, my dad sold it with all my SNES games and the SNES console for a buck at a yard sale. :'(

songokusigtif.png

If I didn't have Worms Armaggedon on PC I would've gotten it on N64.

i still have my SNES console. (broke my N64 to smitherreans) but i don't see any valid point in keeping these gems if they're games from franchises i've never heard of...

anyways, i had a gold cartridge of Zelda (like nads) and i had a collection of football games brought from my dad. they're like probably like $4 ea but it was fun to play on them.

I have FFVII(bought $12 from a friend) and Battletoads and Double Dragon for the SNES, both fetch a nice penny elsewhere...

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.

I have Banjo Tooie..I wouldn't consider it all that rare though, as far as I know. :|

I've also got Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Gold Cartridge), Donkey Kong 64 (Yellow Cartridge), and the DK 64 Green Nintendo 64. I dunno if those are rare though.

Bust A Groove 2: $64 - $90

X-men vs Street Fighter: $50 - $70

Marvel vs. Capcom: $48 - $70

Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter: $40 - $52

used to own all of them. would be too beat up to sell anyway!

Wish I still had my [bleep]ing copy of marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the dreamcast. Amazing game, pretty rare now too IIRC.

Problem is it got stolen along with my old dreamcast, worms:armegeddon (for dreamcast) and some other games including Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.

  • 4 weeks later...

Sorry to bump old topics, but i saw this and i had to post the two gaming gems i have. First one might be a bit uninteresting, but it's a rarety, second one, well, i'll let you judge it yourself....

  1.
[*:hnqysihc]Rosco McQueen for the PS1, best firefighting arcade game i've ever played. Not that many copies around either.

[*:hnqysihc]Official UK PlayStaion magazine Demo CD Disk 11: vol. 2. Now, on the cover, it advertises Pandemonium 2 as a playable demo with an image and everything. It also says, in a small list advertising the smaller games that Grand Theft Auto is a playable demo. Yes, Grand Theft Auto, the original PS1 version. That's a piece of vintage GTA history ::' I'll scan the cover into my computer sometime...

sig4.png

The oldest games I have are for the sega genesis, which I doubt are worth much, but I thought of something: Games start out expensive and quickly depreciate in value to nearly nothing, then decades later can be worth thousands again. Perhaps Lenin could make a graph depicting this? :D
