Random, I think, with some items having a preset level (Holy Mackerel = 42, most weapons ~10, Horsemann's head = 31, and so on). The backpack viewer has a section with the ranges/levels.

I gave a hat to my friend, he says that he needs it and says that he'll pay it back.

 

A week later I ask for it back.

All hats can have a level 1-100 and in a rare case 0.

 

Some Vintage weapons can have random levels 1-100 (-regular level) and the rare case of 0.

 

 

They have no benefits other than being cool.

I have a level 1 stainless pot. First hat I found too.

 

I wish there were more good sniper hats. I use Ellis cap + Razorback because I like to hide the fact that I'm not completely terrible at the class.

I use Muskelmannbraun painted Alien Swarm Parasite for my Sniper, although I never use him anyway. It looks like a Headcrab <3

Im surprised they dont actually HAVE a headcrab yet. Maybe when (eventually) HL Ep3 comes out the Pre-order is a Headcrab hat for all classes :D.

I quite like the Sola Topi my friend gave me but it makes you a bit of a target for other snipers. :|

Finally organized my backpack today. Turns out I have 19 hats (more than I thought) but only three vintage :(

I hate alot of the sniper hats. They're all cliche' and similar.

Yeah, exactly. They all look the same really, and none of them really stick out to me, which is why I hate them >_<

 

Oh and I completed the Spy set, minus Janissary Ketche and Fez. Gonna buy a Fez today, I hope.

The Saxxies were a huge disappointment to me, 'cause a lot of the winners were awful (and set ups). And I really was expecting some sort of live show, but it was just some scripted HTML :V
