The Observer
My grandmother has dial up and it's terrible. :ohnoes: Good thing I have DSL. Better than dial-up at least.
InkofDeath
Had it in the 90s till 01. Using dial-up sucks for the amount of work that I do on the internet, whether its games, downloading, or working on certain projects through the internet, having dial-up would impede this all, and I'd have to quit from doing many of the things I do online. Wouldn't be something to love.
bloodyhatchetbear
I haven't had Dial-up since AOHell was the big thing... I refuse to use the computer if I have to resort to that. And how exactly does this "cap" thing work? I've never hit a cap on any internet I've ever had, even when I was downloading alot of stuff in under a week. I don't entirely understand it. OldJoe
Had dial-up from 97/98 - 00/01. Changed to 0.05mbit? (50kb/s) and then changed it to 0.8mbit (800kb/s) last year. Don't need a greater speed, i don't download much and if i do, a demo on 1.8gb takes about 15 minutes. I've never had a gb/tb cap on my adsl/broadband, and never will. Paying about 28euros for the 800kb/s version. I hate dial-up and will never use it again, slow/un-safe/costly... Randox
I haven't had dialup since 2002, maybe earlier. Then we got cable TV and internet. We moved on to satilite TV but the internet is still there. And it's unlimated. Actualy, I don't think I have ever herd of anyone reaching thier limit and I figure unlimated is fairly standard where I live. Laura
ive had dial up since 2001? or 2002. at least 2002. Still have it,its more about the ability to manage your time well for me like, every friday i watch the new bleach manga on youtube. guess what i do? go make dinner during the download or take a shower. SOMETHING. sometimes if i want to watch a TV show, i let my torrent program run over night while i sleep. I don't know how you manage. The only time I let my BitTorrent run overnight is when the file exceeds 1.5Gb or there are few to no seeders. Even then I usually don't let it run overnight because I normally shut my computer down to save on electricity and not have it be slow as [bleep] the next day. I've currently got DSL. The only time I remember having dial up was when we moved and back then I rarely used the internet anyways. not a big deal, i use my friends computer for things occasionally. such as, downloading TV shows/movies. I let his computer run over night. But, i use his house for XBox live and stuff to. Infact, i keep my xbox their and have my own Xbox live account for...two years now. I go their and use his net and its not a big deal, hell in fact i goto his house and hes fine with it whenever. my three closest friends have the same ISP and internet services. [hide=FRIENDS INTERNET SPEED TEST]typical mid day speed early morning speed now heres my typical internet connection speed test. [/hide] as you can see, its not slow internet for most Sprint, says it all. Never had dial up, in fact, I don't recall ever using it. Nom
Dial-up sucks. We moved in February, and our new house in half a mile down a private lane with no underground cable, so it's dial-up or satellite, and I've been stuck with dial-up on one computer since then. It's infuriatingly slow, and I thought I would never have to worry about tying up the phone lines again. . . I usually have to shuffle over to my grandparents' house or something if I need to use real internet. That's why I haven't been around TIF much, though it works better than most things on dial-up. Right now, I'm actually on my laptop with an AT&T card my mom borrowed from her boss. This is what we need to suck up and get. I'm sick of sitting for fifteen minutes to wait for a freakin' page with two minutes worth of reading to load.
anonymous1234
I use broadband and haven't used dial up since at the latest 2004. What I don't get is that my download speed is around 500kb/s which is like nothing considering the "almighty powerful fastest internet around" optimum online can give like 10mb/s, which is like 20x faster

As for using Dial-up, Been using it from 2000 to 2006, and gosh was I amazed when I first saw broadband speed at school. Although the computer was getting old, it wasn't the computer waiting for the internet to load, but now the internet waiting for the computer to load if you understand what I mean  For reaching the cap, we never reached it, although I think our cap is like 30 Gb. I personnally never use Torrents, and very very rarely do I download anything other that what I need. We have 2 computers on the family internet, since I'll be moving out this summer :D. Went to Telus since I already have an account with them (cellphone), and it's really not worth it, 1Gb cap, only using that usb chip, and all for $75. Tim
had it from 2002 till last year. a freaking pain it was. though to have broadband is costing us a fortune because australian internet services are overpriced just to match UK/USA average speeds. Furah
wow this thread has lasted longer than I imagined it to... was basically a filler on the time, and to see what others thought, never expected it to past 1 page :-w and I am currently trying to find better ISP and plans, because if I find one that mum likes (aka cheap) then we can upgrade to it : ( aka no more chances of dial-up speeds, or sisters hoggin the dl speed, right when I'm close to an achievement on the 360 :wall: ) Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement. Jernlov
We've made three pages and nobody's discussed the NOISE made by dial-up? UGH. That 'beep'. Every. Time. Then you connect and get cut off. Rinse and repeat until you go insane. Also, you can't use the phone either. But I guess when I had dial-up, I didn't use the Internet as much as I do now, so I didn't notice. The house next door still has dial up, and when I had to go around their house to fix their computer... it took some self control when I was setting the Internet back up and trying to connect. Latinoking
Yeah, I had dial up till 2004. Then for two years we didn't have internet. Not bad, just hanged out more. Then we got AT&T(SBC) DSL and that was okay, but what made me mad from them is you had to wait a week to start the internet....LAME! Then in 2006, we got tired of AT&T and switched to Comcast. So then I got boardband, but now we switch to Wide Open West, since the place we live only has two choices. WOW or AT&T. The decision was quite easy. Some ISP have caps? I would like a way to find out if mine does. (PM ME Plz) I am Teh_King[My dA][My Last.FM][My Twitter]
