Runescape to become mature?

Featured Replies

A long time ago Runescape was a mature community. I think we all heard of this time before it went to miniclip. The huge impact of going to that site was to bring in more players of a younger audience. With it however would come many immature players. Today I noticed Runescape is now playable directly on onrpg.com .I figured it was to get back lost players with the appeal of the new graphics but I know that alot of people on those forums are maturer than average players. What impact will this have on Rs?

Blaming miniclip is a lost art, noone has ever proven to me that miniclip affected the popularity of idiots/immature morons that play.

I've never even heard of onrpg.com, so I'll pass on that.

Runescape recently got on Onrpg and if you played a Runescape earlier you could see the difference and impact of miniclip. Here is the link (you dont have to log in, just proof that its real. http://runescape.onrpg.com

I know many 'mature' players who found the game on Miniclip. Sure some immature people will come, but just as many through the main site, seeing as the game spreads mainly by word of mouth.

I agree with you about miniclip because I actually know a few immature kids that started playing from miniclip. I'm not bashing miniclip, im just saying its a site aimed toward younger players. however i dont know about onrpg so i cant pass judgement on that.

lulz wut?

I have to admit I preferred the game's community back when I first started.

It's inevitable though, of course younger players will come through and in time i'm sure they will mature.

Miniclip didn't make the community immature, it just made the community grow which of course included both mature AND immature players. The only different is, a lot of the more mature players are quiet and usually keep to themselves, so when the community expands, you don't notice them, you notice the new immature players.

If any of you actually player RS before it was on miniclip, you would have noticed it in game. I think some of the players back then were even more immature. Higher leveled famous players were still followed around by massive crowds. Players still begged and asked for items. Players still tried to scam you. Players solicited themselves for money.

In the beginning the walk from lumbridge to varrok past the dark wizards circle was a nightmare filled with beggars and runescape prostitutes lol.

If anything, I think the game is more mature today then it was way back then. The only difference is that the games community is massively larger today, so more immature players are seen...but that doesn't mean for each of them, there isn't a nice quiet mature player minding his own business training alone.

No it's not.

You can be mature on a game as you're not trying to impress your real friends.

You can be immature on a game to impress to random people.

Works both ways.

I've noticed that RS has become more mature recently, but that might just be because I've been locked up slaying in places where most immature people don't have the patience to get the level to go to ;)

RuneScape is also an advertised game on Addicting Games... and it's not like the whole immature community came from Miniclip, I'm sure there were some immature people who played before then.

And I've never heard of onrpg.com

I played since 2001 so I'll tell you what happened. The community was already down the drain and all hope lost before RS associated with miniclip. Miniclip made things even worse, but they are not the root of the problem. The crappy community started with Rs2 and the new graphics attracted a lot of new people, not much we can do about that.

2480+ total

it depends where you are what your doing i.e. theres a lot more imature f2p rather then at members somewhere like gwd or some other higer level place and as you level up you slowly go up into thpse higer chunks....

but i've noticed a bit more maturity myself

+1

In any community, there are bound to be degenerates and immature players. Believe me, *every* community. There are immature people here, in WoW, Everquest 2, and I know for myself, COD4.

Air_Dragon15.png

I started playing through Miniclip when I was in law school. I'd like to think that I was more mature than a typical player, although as someone who plays video games, I guess you could say I was less mature than my classmates.

Im F2P and Ive been seeing much more maturity. Alot of people have been keeping to themselves lately. Except some level 18 came up to me asking for money, I just gave him 3k, but when I first said no he left, so I gave it to him because he didn't beg.

GG.gif

more mature people since they've all played MMOs before.

RuneScape will always have immature players. Many parents play RS, and some introduce their kids to RS. So as time goes on specific players will gain maturity, but as a community, the average maturity level will hang somewhere in the balance. Although the different websites advertising the game attract different sorts of players, the different websites are not entirely to blame. You can't put the blame for the immature players on Miniclip any more than you can put the blame on yourself. It's just a different venue for the advertisements. Jagex is a business, if they can attract paying customers from a website, they will advertise there.

Not really anything's fault. Runescpae is a game easily playable by younger people. They don't have to download/install anything, pay anything (Unless they beg their parents :/) or buy anything.

I think people that use sites like onrpg.com to find games, are more or less pretty much the type that just want to play a game for a few days or weeks and get on with it. They can never stick to one game long enough to enjoy it.

I don't think it's going to bring in a TON of immature people, but there will be some that will stay and join our ranks.

just went to on rpg and looks just as immature and kiddish as the rs homepage. i mean really. mature website would be like advertising on bungie
