"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

Featured Replies

I feel the same way as you Hob. Lots of people see it as a status symbol, but I don't see it that way at all. It's just two members of a specie making each other feel good - not an indicator of how successful you are in life, like most high schoolers seem to think. God, everyone there was obsessed about everyone else's sex life. How can you care so much?

I think that love > lust, because sex comes naturally in a good relationship anyway.

  • Obviously you ask her to come with you. Drive with her to the steepest mountain. Put her in the backpack and spend a week climbing the mountain. You will drink the rain and you will eat like a bear. B

  • Okay so I'm pretty confident at least 2 of you remember me and maybe .5 of you remember how my last post went. To recap, I went on the first date of my life and then a second one that went poorly.   T

That's how it ought to be, but as my brother once told me in one of his whiny fits: he either met girls he had great sex with but who bored him out of his mind beyond the bed; or he met great, sweet women he could see himself with, but with whom there wasn't the sexual click.

A good relationship doesn't automatically equate to good sex. A bad relationship doesn't automatically equate to bad sex. Good sex doesn't automatically equate to a good relationship. But bad sex does, nearly always, equate to a bad relationship (in the end).

I just speak as I find, obviously.

Heh, speaking about relationships is quite a challenge since we've all had different experiences. Makes me wonder how a thread like this can be so popular.

Mostly my influence. I'm a real crowd pleaser.

It amazes me that 16-year olds can make a big deal of an on-stage kiss in a play. At least it's with a friend, and we decided to play it up as much as possible. Should be HILarious.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Hmmm... doesnt seem to funny to me

I don't see why sex matters so much. I'd rather be with someone I want to have a long relationship with, without sex, than short ones with lots of sex. But then, I'm not keeping up with the times am I?

Really? What's the difference between friendship and love if you take sex out of the equation? Sex is the thing I miss most when I'm single. But I do define sex as physical proximity in the large sense.

You're a chick right?

That's hot.

But anyway, I agree. Without sex, a long term relationship is pretty much just a friend. It's better that we tell you this now than when the love of your life friend zones you. And then there's friends with benefits. That's basically just sex for the sake of sex. It usually ends in a mess though, which is why it's so uncommon. So here's the break down:

Relationship with sex: normal relationship between boyfriend and girlfriend

Relationship without sex: friends

friendship: a bond between two people, mutual of course where both enjoy the compeny of the other

Friends with benefits: abnoral relationship between friends, usually of oposite genders. no emotional attatchments.

(sorry for awkward spacing, the ICP board seems determined to double space my post)

I don't necesarilly agree, I feel there's a lot more to the friendship between two people in a relationship, but then again I'm only sixteen, so that's probably why I think that. I haven't slept a full night in a week, I've been having really crappy dreams.

I agree with deathdrow here. In a relationship I find comfort in another person that I don't find with just friends. Relationships are more than sex.

I totally just realized I accomplished getting a couple girls numbers last week. I feel cool now.

Crap! I swear I removed that wig prior to giving some guy my number. >.<

Nice work anyway. ;)

Sumpta is right, and it's a point I've been trying to tell a friend who doesn't buy it.

Exactly what IS the difference between a friendship and a relationship if you take out the sex?

Yeah, I'm a 'chick'. And I'm a bit amazed to be the defender of sex in relationships here .

That "more" that you feel isn't there in a normal friendship is one of the many forms of love. Of course there's more to a relationship than just sex. If it was just sex, it wouldn't be a relationship. But it is a key ingredient, especially if you're still at a young age. Hormones WILL do their work. Your love for each other may be deeper than the deepest sea, take away the sex and the relationship will crumble. You, or worse, your partner, will wake up one day and say to themselves: "this person next to me is my very best friend, I love him/her to pieces, but we're no longer lovers. This can't be it. This won't work." Of course, it depends on the couple what works for them. Some will consider once a week perfect, for others once a month works fine and yet others may feel it was a wasted week if they only had sex twice.

My first double post here. Do I get a prize now?

Hi everyone. I've not been on the forums much lately, but I recently got nostalgic for them, and then I realized that this would be a great place to ask about a problem I've been having. Basically it's your standard "I really like my best friend" problem, but I'll elaborate a bit.

I met this girl a while ago, and instantly we really connected; I've never had such a fun time talking to anyone. I tried asking her out, but I suppose I was not clear enough as to my intentions, so I don't think she realized what I meant. Anyway, since then we've become pretty close friends, but it's getting hard for me to just be her friend while I still like her as much as I do. I know that sounds selfish, but it's true. I would ask her out again, and be clear about what I meant this time, but considering this is probably the best friendships I've ever had, I'm afraid that if she said no it would ruin it.

I know that there are only two options here, go for it or don't, so I don't really know what advice I'm asking for, but anything would be greatly appreciated.

gftog mate

Well, as they say, your wife/husband IS your best friend. So sex, rather, sexual physical contact friendship would be a relationship.

After all, sex doesn't have to mean inserting your weewee in a veevee while discussing the difference of relationships and friendships; if it was just that, sleeping with a friend would be a relationship but making out with a friend would be a...? Right. Just a clarification, I hope.

[bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp

Would it be sad to say I went to this persons blog? I honestly laughed at the part where they said their goal for the year was 20 boyfriends at once and their life goal was 100 at once. There's a word for people like that...

Back on topic now. Deiophobus, there really isn't much you can do but be just friends with her, or ask her out and hope for the best. Whatever you decide to do, best of luck

I'm going to the movies and mall with two friends and three sophomore girls on Friday. I'm thinking I'm going to be a huge douche since as far as I know both of them are going to ask the person they're going with to homecoming and I don't want the other girl to feel left out or anything. So I'm thinking her being glad that I didn't is a lot better than wishing I did. I probably should ask her, but whatever. She's only there because my friends want me to hang out with them and I'm only there because she wanted to go with her friends.

So basically there was no point to me posting this since I'm not really looking for any advice.

I think it means "go [do] ten other girls".

Is that what it means? If so that is not helpful to me. I have never even been on a date, so [doing] 10 other girls is not a very easy option.

Thank you for trying though, I understand what you're getting at, that I should just move on.
