"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

Featured Replies

Blake, it was a mistake to be so indirect about it. She obviously is interested in you. Talk to her in person and be more confident. Ask her out to dinner, don't just say "Let's be a thing".

  • Obviously you ask her to come with you. Drive with her to the steepest mountain. Put her in the backpack and spend a week climbing the mountain. You will drink the rain and you will eat like a bear. B

  • Okay so I'm pretty confident at least 2 of you remember me and maybe .5 of you remember how my last post went. To recap, I went on the first date of my life and then a second one that went poorly.   T

I wasn't asking her out because I assumed we were already 'going out'. I would never ask a girl out over a text

In all honesty you should have never assumed that to begin with. I understand that things escalated quickly between you two, but you never asked her out and she never said yes, which means you know nothing; she could just be out for friends with benefits, she could just be playing you, you don't know. I don't want to sound harsh, but yeah. I do hope things work out for you though. Do you really like her? Can you see yourself in a long-term relationship? If that's what you're goal is of course.

Looking back I know it was stupid to say, but still.. I do really like her, we have a lot in common. I'm not sure about long-term, isn't the point of dating to see if you would be willing to spend your life with someone?

On the other hand, she may have been upset because she thought she was already your girlfriend, and then you acted like you weren't together because you were not confident enough to give a straight answer. So, like I said, talk to her.

Not necessarily.

Yea, but it can be.

K, now I'm confused. I'll elaborate on my previous situation I was talking about before.

Background - I'm 17, she's 18, only a couple months older than me though. She's a senior in HS, I'm a sophomore in college.

I met her at her house when my friend brought me over for a movie night. She layed on me during the movie, and I got her number before I left. We texted during the week, and the next weekend I went over to her house around 10pm. We watched one movie, halfway through we started 'cuddling' or whatever, me holding her and her laying on me. We also made out a couple short times. The rest of the night until about 3:30 we just talked about a lot and kissed and stuff, and then fell asleep holding each other on the couch. We woke up around 5:30am because I had to get home before my parents woke up. This was all Saturday.

Next time I saw her was Sunday, I went to her house with a bunch of her friends that she introduced me to. I was holding her hand and she layed on me on the couch again. Kiss goodbye and everything too. We texted (and had an awkward phone call, ^), flirting and stuff. Yesterday I texted 'I like you.' just being cute and stuff, she said the same back.

This is the part that I'm confused about. Tonight like 20 minutes ago she texted me 'Hey. I like you.' and I said 'Hey. I like you too. Wanna be my girlfriend?' back. I did NOT mean this in a way to ask her out, because I kind of thought we already were going out. It was more of a flirt thing. I'll just write the whole convo here...

-Hey. I like you

Hey. I like you too. Wanna be my girlfriend?

-Are you being serious?

Well I kind of meant it like a joke because I thought you were. Hope I didn't mess anything up

-Um. Yeah, I'm not ready for that yet :/

Oh alright. I didn't mean it in an asking you out way, wouldn't do that over the phone haha

Was I wrong to assume? I know my replies could have been better, but I'm kinda freaking out. She hasn't replied after the last one, it's been like 20 minutes.

EDIT: next couple lines of conversation...

-Lol. Okay.

Sorry. Stupid of me to assume :/

-Don't worry about it. I don't blame you. I'm simply irresistable. :)

Then just normal conversation after this. Still confused though

Hope you learned your lesson, DONT joke about being in a relationship unless you're already in one. I mean, joking of marriage is funny, but girlfriend is a serious topic.

oh, and dry/ironic/sarcastic humor never goes over big through a text. dont do it.

She likes you. She doesn't want a boyfriend. Most hot single girls are like that.

We've been talking normally and flirting still. Right before we stopped talking for the night I asked if she wanted to go to the beach this weekend, and she said yeah but lets go at night. Good sign right? Then, the last thing she said before good night was 'you ever been skinny dipping'? So we'll see how things go

And I thought that I managed to stop her yesterday:

"I miss you it's weird."

Must I be blunt and horrible? :/

Yes, for the thirtieth time.

Yes, for the thirtieth time.

 hm ok

Yep, you must. Sucks sometimes but you just gotta do it

She is rambling about sexual fetishes, hm right I think I should quickly before I get stuck :wall:

Yeah you definitely should. Just tell her she's your best friend's girlfriend/ex-girlfriend and you're not interested.

Yeah I have done and she seems okay I think. She likes evading questions.

Edit: I think she didn't get the message again, how can I get any more blunt than what you said? :/

Well, it really doesn't get more blunt than that besides "[bleep] off." If you want to be friends with her, then keep talking to her just make sure neither of you get to anything inappropriate. If you don't, then you might as well stop texting her.

Trying this, I'm just going to have to avoid eye contact and to stop smiling because of this:

"with those [bleep]ing eyes

and smiled >.<

i had an urge to kiss you"

-.-

I love skinny dipping, I went a couple weeks ago with a few people at my friend's girlfriend's parents beach house.

Theoretically, if you're a catch why would you want to be exclusive straight away with a girl you only just met? The reason why she backed off a bit was it looked like you were just kinda desperate for a relationship for the sake of it and grabbed at what you thought you could get.

You messed up, but sometimes it doesn't effect things depending on the girl and how many other mistakes you made. (if you needed perfect game nobody would ever get laid) Looks like you're alright.

No, the last one she had went off to college last year in another state and they broke up like last month cause of distance.

That makes a lot of sense. I wasn't desperate, but could've been perceived that way. And, can't wait to go skinny dipping :)

I was at her house for like 5 hours just now, and judging by how it was there nothing is messed up at all. It was not awkward one bit, and we were more, uh involved than last time. So, it turned out alright. Thanks guys

I've gotten over my negativity issue, so I don't think I'll have too many issues getting a girlfriend, if it weren't for the fact that finding a single girl is almost luck-based in and of itself. I'm not the most interesting dude in the world either.

As for that last girl, nothing really took off, so I'm just gonna keep on rolling for now.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.
