Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

This is a brief overview off IGN:

US, July 16, 2008 - Today Rockstar spilled a few more tiny details on the Nintendo DS edition of Grand Theft Auto. Dubbed Chinatown Wars, this will be a wholly original game despite being set in the familiar locale of Liberty City. It is slated for release in North America and Europe this winter.

"This is a game that will deliver a rich, fast-paced and intense 'Grand Theft Auto' experience that will be truly unique to Nintendo's handheld platform," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Rockstar Leeds, along with the team at Rockstar North, has built upon a decade of progressive design on Grand Theft Auto, and has created something fundamentally fresh and immersive."

The official website for Chinatown Wars displays the logo for the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection, revealing some sort of online thug life.

I think the fact that they are putting GTA onto the DS (debatably the most child-friendly console available) is a ridiculous idea. Obviously it will sell, but maybe someone finally realised spoilt-brats whose parents fail on all aspects will buy it for them?

Whats your thoughts?

Im guessing its going to be a "mini" GTA, mainly because i don't think the DS has the capabilities to run a decent sized game, it will probaly just be set in Chinatown with a small amount of missions.

And like you said, GTA games are normally 18+, and i doubt many people over that age even have the consoles, and i reckon most people with a DS wont be interested in this type of game.

Oh well it will probaly be ported to another console likes the GTA games for PSP were.

While many games are marketed towards a younger audience, the console in general is marketed towards people of all ages.

It will be 18, it doenst matter anyway because it will sell a metric [bleep] tonne

I think 3D technology has come far enought on DS for a 3D GTA to work.Game[roosters] Dementium the ward is a brilliant example of how well you can make 3D environments and i must say Dementium is awesome.I like the idea of a top down gta again but err, i think the novelty will ware thing shortly into it.

Milking the series for all it's worth  Kind of reminds me of Guitar Hero, and how they realeased GH: Aerosmith, and in march we will see GH: Metallicaa..

How is it milking? It's another game. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is just another game, too, and quite frankly, it's a good game, filled with Classic Rock hits and an Aerosmith song in each venue.

*3* Aerosmith songs, actually. Two non-Aero, 2 Aero's, then an Aerosmith encore. But I digress.

I don't know a whole lot of adults with DS's, but then again, I don't know what most of them own. It might fail, it might (and probably will) end up just another game on the market, not a smash hit like other GTAs or something horrible on so many levels (Summer movie games, for example). Just kinda there, like the Ace Combat series or Overlord.

GBA got its own GTA game. I don't see why everyone is so surprised that the DS gets one.

Notice how the GBA one wasn't sucessful? Why make a DS one?

Because if you make it, they will buy it. Simple as that.

But wouldn't it cost them more money to make it ,then they will earn back in sales?

A 3D GTA game can be done on the DS with some minor sacrifices here and there (shorter draw distance, less traffic, smaller map, less detail).

Example in point:

Payback, another technical masterpiece for the GBA:

Rockstar just has to take the extra step and put effort into it, which, given the massive popularity of the GTA series, I'm not sure they will take. It'll sell no matter how crappy it is. Let's just hope for the best.

GTA is one of those games where once you've completed it you can just pick it up and play it and mess around for a while.

If this game is any good it'll be perfect for the DS, or any handheld console.

If you're somewhere where you've got some time to kill, just whip out your DS and away you go until you get to where you're going etc.

So while your wiating 45 freaking minutes for a bus you can just imagine jacking a motorcycle and getting the bus yourself?

Why do you seem so angry that they're releasing this? There are loads of people that would love to get GTA on the DS. I can name three on this forum! Me, Abelmisi, and Nadril.

Just because parents buy GTA for their kids doesn't mean that they "fail on all aspects". That's a pretty ridiculous comment to say. And also because parents buy games for their kids mean they're spoiled brats? My parents buy me games, I'm anything but spoiled. :shame:

There is a point where you can't really do much more. This is that point. Gta on Ds? It failed on advance. The majority of people will be playing it illegally, and tha'ts funny seeing as the majority of things you do in GTA are illegal.

i hope some of the local asians use lines like "damn pig-dog americans, coming into my town!" it would be pretty funny.

i used to say that when i played Medal of Honor: Rising Sun as one of the japanese characters.
