Well being muted for 8 days now has given me a lot of time to not pay attention to runescape while I play, but browse both tip.it and runescape forums. I've also been trying to merchant and trying to teach myself the best methods on how to do this. I then remembered that people could be influenced outside the game to buy certain things in the game. To test my hypothesis I remembered that Batman: The Dark Knight had recently come out and was a huge success at the box office. Knowing many people who play runescape would see this I decided to check bat masks (the treasure trail item) in the GE.

From about June 26th to July 15th the price was stable. BAM Batman comes out on the 16th of July and price shoots up 20k over night.

 

 

 

Coincidence or not? Do you think real world stuff can influence the runescape economy?

Probably, but only on a very small scale. I doubt they will rise that much more.

When a kid (around 4-10) sees spiderman movie for example: They go bug their parents for a Spiderman action figure...

 

 

 

So i would say, kids would get influenced by this mostly...

I have an animal mask set (excluding cat, which I haven't tried for) that I bought from the Exchange over a month ago, and I've barely made any profit on them, Exchange price-wise.

 

 

 

I have noticed Wolf Mask price going up more and more often though. Maybe it's just the same for all masks now.

They won't rise much more because people hardly sell them.

Highly doubt there is a coincidence in any way. That temporary like 3 days of not going up, simply not many were sold, you CANNOT say they were somewhat stable, how the hell does a mask on the ge stabalize at 400k while it's 15m on the street? The bat mask and all other animal masks are insanely rare, the only thing making them go up is the tiny number of sellers and thousands of people with an offer for them in the grand exchange already.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also, bat mask looks nothing like anything in batman, and is also VERY ugly..

Animal Masks are heavily junk traded on the forums. I think it's just correcting itself.

ROFL. How long have you been playing Runescape? This happens to Santa hats EVERY year.

*facepalm*you do know that bat masks are sold for multi-millions on the forums. it was just a small case of ge freaze. seriously any sort of animal mask is like that they were way underpriced on the ge. rl may afect it but not in the case of this item. and the bat-mask resembles nothing on batman

Bat masks are junk traded, the GE price doesn't reflect much of anything as you can't buy it there unless you're very lucky.

Lol I think its very likely that things like the new batman film could have an effect, maybe with the olympic games the price of agility related items etc. may go up? ;)

I remember they always used to rise in price when christmas came around.

A little maybe but not ALL people will like the film.. ya :

the only thing i notice is that during the summer vacation the prices go down, and some go drastically up, because there's less people so less supply and/or demand

As it's been said, you picked one of the worst possible items to use in your theory. Animal masks are always wanted and the GE has freeze periods or so of them, it's got no affect at all, purley because the mask was wanted way before the movie was announced. ( I don't know when it was announced, hate batman films, so I'm presuming this.)

To some extent, yes... Santas always seem to bump up a little around the holidays, I imagine that the same would be true for anything that could be linked to RL.

 

 

 

I'm just glad that there isn't anything that looks like a Joker mask in RS, or we'd have half of the population running around shouting '0mg why S0 sErious?!?'..
