Heard a gut-wrenching story today. Apparently last week some time, there was a rather bad car accident near where my girlfriend lives. An 18 year old was speeding in his Land Cruiser and crashed into a stationary car parked on the side of the road. This specific part of the road has a 80km/h limit, but they're saying he was going well over 140km/h. Anyway, the car parked on the side of the road had 5 people in it, and 1 person still getting in. The Toyota crashed into it, the girl still getting in was flung away from the car as it exploded on impact. The girl survived, with serious injuries. The 5 occupants all burnt to death. The fire was of such intensity that all 5 occupants were dead within minutes and burnt so badly they had to be identified by dental records. The 18 year old who caused the accident got away with minor injuries.

The kid that caused the accident is a local, and if the past has been any indication, he's going to get away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist assuming he's from the right family.

I think the fact that the victims were Filipino also makes it "less of a serious incident" because i doubt their embassy is going to fight too hard.

It's kind of sickening.

That is just sickening. :\

Seriously, never visiting your area if kids can go about committing manslaughter on reckless charges and get nothing more then a slap.

tbh I don't know why anyone would visit any middle eastern country.

Because they have an extremely rich and interesting culture? Because the roots of three of the most prominent religions in the world trade back to the area? Because people might want to further the understanding of a region that has had immense impacts on the Western world in the past 50+ years, because of our habit of imperialism?

That's a really awful way to dismiss an entire culture.

My skin is finally getting soft
I'll scrub until the damn thing comes off

My only class today was cancelled (for like the fourth or fifth time this semester), so I'm going to spend the day doing nothing productive, probably.

If you happen to live in the US, I don't suppose it was cancelled for Columbus day?  :P

I do live in the US, but for whatever reason, we don't have off for Columbus day. The professor has been sick for a while. I just hope that I don't have to re-take the class due to the professor not being there. That would suck for multiple reasons.

Today, done nothing. Absolutely nothing. Spent the whole day doing nothing.

Feel bad about it.

But now, gonna head singing and dancing and to a bball practice soon.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

Name one that isn't a theocracy with an extremely corrupt gov. Nothing against the people or the culture, both are nice an interesting my beef is with the shitty corrupt governments that seem to be the norm there.

Israel.

Egypt.

Iraq.

Depends on what you consider Middle-East aswell... It is a large region, with numerous different cultures and countries and beliefs.

I went to school anyway even though I didn't have class today from about noon to 7 and even though I didn't get much homework done, I had a good time. I talked to some of my classmates and stuff. I did get a little bit of homework done, so that's good. I probably wouldn't have gotten any done if I stayed home, so I think going to school today was the right decision.

Oh yeah, I got an email from my one lab professor saying that he's cancelling class on Thursday because we're in the middle of a two week lab that everybody finished in one. He's not going to be there, but in the email he said he'd tell the professor in the room before us to leave the door open and let us do our thing unsupervised. He just requested that we lock the door on our way out. I can't tell if this is because he's an extremely socially awkward savant (He's really, well, socially awkward and terrible at teaching (Literally just re-writes problems from the instructor edition of the book on the board), but I'm convinced he's really smart even though he constantly makes really dumb mistakes because he has a PhD from MIT.) or because he's a total bro. Or maybe it's because he also has a good job other than adjunct professor and doesn't really care if he gets fired.

I really doubt anyone from the class will complain about it. It just seems really weird.

And we're starting driskel anyway cuz exactly one person still thinks he's competent

That one person being Muschamp?

Yep. Maybe he sees something that no one else sees, but it's pretty clear to us that Driskel is completely useless. It's frustrating watching that guy consistently lose us games.
