Erichermit
As alphakodes said, staying far away from a wyvern to where it can only use the longrange attack but not the breath attack will result in it not being able to hit anything but 0s. Range Prot means a certain ONE of his styled moves does no damage. I think this would count he doesn't have a range attack. Trust me, I'm CERTAIN Wyverns have a ranged attack, and I have much experience in killing them. Do you hate Wyverns or Warped Terrorbirds? Think again! Dire_Wolf
Dragonfire shield+ anti does not work to block its firebreath attack. But what you got there seems interesting. I experienced that there mele hit quite alot too compared to their "Fire breath" which is said to be careful of...
jessy87
praying melee instead of magic doesn't make a significant change. i've worn melee armor there once after the drop update and it was a lot worse then bringing dhide. except, it does stop the breathe and you do NOT have to wield the elemental shield. Emmentail
^ They changed the praying against melee + breath thing ages ago. Try and kill them now with no ele/mind/dfs shield. I dare you.

polybren
Just finished a 74 Skeletal Wyveren task. My advice is to range them using an xbow with an elemental shield equipped. I did that an never had to leave once. I simply stepped back out of the range of the "icey breath" and slapped on prot from range when needed. Worked like a charm. Freesia
I found range a pretty slow method of doing the task as maxed out cb, so I'm only going to talk about melee. The breath hits like KBD's, which magic defence does nothing does nothing to mitigate the hit, which means it does nothing at all, so don't wear karils to wyverns or KBD at all. Your next best setup is just plain best melee/range def tanking all their attacks, with a DFS. Otherwise would be proselyte v skirt melee pray without. There are actually two kinds of skeletal wyverns, the lvl 158 with 210hp, and lvl 140s with 200hp which are deeper in the lair. I can't seem to spot any difference in max hits, but due to level differences I prefer to do the lvl 140s. It's hard to notice these until you are about 133 cmb. Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(. Deathmath
Nice discovery, although I seem to remember it. I think a dfs can charge off the 'fire' attack, but am not sure. Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again
Erichermit
DFS does get charged by their breath... somehow. Do you hate Wyverns or Warped Terrorbirds? Think again! Ginger_Warrior
A DFS is charged by a Wyvern in the same way it would be charged by a normal dragon breath. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

Erichermit
someone has a guide on exactly this with all the data in reading it then posting about it doesnt make anyone think your cool  :shame: Heheh, thats me. I seem to recall wyvern breath being barely affected by magic defense at all, like Freesia stated. However, I did not realize that there were two different kinds of wyverns (I only fought the same single wyvern over and over again). However, I think it's harder to go deeper and do the "Easier" wyverns because you get thrown around by the various wyverns there, while if you kill the one in the alcove you generally get left alone except for that one wyvern. Inlander
I never read that guide until it was I saw the link posted in this topic. In fact, before coming here, I posted my discoveries on wyverns at GameFAQS in the topic that the following link leads to. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=562728&topic=44755446 I think the reason many people are saying they don't see much of a difference when using various prayer is because they have higher defense levels than I do. My character was 82 defense when he was assigned skeletal wyverns.
Ero
I thought the attack where the Wyvern jumps up and emits a blue glow was the ranged attack, and as such I found it highly effective to switch to range prayer whenever the Wyvern does this. I have never been hit by the attack using this method and can do a Skeletal Wyvern task using hardly any food, compared to the amount of food I use whilst only using the melee prayer. Note: I have maxed melee stats and wear black dragonhide whilst killing Skeletal Wyverns.

SuperSayin16
from the tasks i've done at wyverns i've learned not to listen to the bestiary here. they DO NOT have a magic attack. They do however have a icey breath attack which will hit through you no matter what armor/pray you use. they use: melee range icey breath but no magic. praying magic is just an ignorant attempt at stopping what you cannot, which i had to find out the hard way! wish they'd update the bestiary with info that works, lol. Aneron
the guy above me is right. I just wear tank armor and use piety for a task, with a fruit bat familiar. I can do it in 1 trip.
