I'm a Mormon(yes Mormons are Christian) and I'm at church pretty much every Sunday. I was born into the Church, went with my parents, they fell away eventually, but I still wanted to go, so my Dad drove me until I could drive. I'm almost 19 now, and I'm at church because I want to be there. In my church you've got quorum meeting, sunday school, and then sacrament meeting(the main service). The whole thing runs 3 hours and I admit zoning out sometimes.

I tried going to mass, but it was repetitive, stale, and rather boring. It's automatically assumed you know everything about god, they don't tell you what the hell is going on. No wonder creationists are confused. Plus, I don't really support an organization that promotes ignorance and relies on empty threats (zomg hell!) to grab my attention.

I never did go to church that much, save for holidays and the like. Now and then my parents would get on a church kick but it never lasted long.

 

 

 

 

 

So, obviously, I really don't go to church now. I'll still go with my family for Christmas (if for anything out of respect for them, and since it's been a tradition) even though I don't believe in any of it.

 

 

 

 

 

But really, Christmas is the only time aside from like a wedding or something that I'd go to a church. I just don't really enjoy hearing the same story over, and over and over again. Well that and the whole "Atheist" thing =P

Many of the things in there are lies, stolen stories, and twisted meanings. The Dead Sea Scrolls, I believe, told a probably true story - with nothing defying the laws of physics :)

my church is predominately people under 30, with the current church being of about 80 people coming each week, our music is modern with the lead guitarist being the one who writes the songs we play. After church people hang around for the 'fellowship' (aka talking and buying stuff from the cafe) It would have to be the best church I have ever seen and the older people there seem to be as lively as the children :shock:

I don't really know. We used to go to mass every sunday, untill I was a year or 8/9. Then we used to go with Easter and Christmas only. Now we only go when somebody in our family has passed away, or when they are honoring my grandpa or grandma. I don't really believe in going to church, that's why I prefer to stay home. The things these people say are generally very boring moral lessons, brought in a very childish way. I can't believe people older than 5 accept the way that they are spoken to. And it's nice to sleep a little longer on sunday. I'm suposed to be a catholic by the way.

Also, The Life of Pi pretty much planted an idea in me that I only just recognized. Religion isn't about understanding the universe, it's main purpose is to give people hope and keep them together, or as the book describes it love. So, while you can claim that religion has done so many wrongs in this world, that isn't religion, that is the followers of religion.

 

 

 

I am proudly agnostic and confident that I will never truly understand the universe. If I am given the choice to understand it, I will turn that knowledge down because life will lose all meaning to me. Just something I thought I should add

You'd be surprised. Many churches are much like that. Of course, my all-time favorites are those lively, tiny, hot churches here in the South with the black preacher in the throes of ecstasy over his sermon, shoutin' and hollerin'.

I'm Atheist now, can't see myself believing in any of the Christian myths again, they're just so unrealistic IMO :|

I am so tired of all these denominations shoving their [wagon] in my face (lol :D ). I am a non-denominationalist. I don't go to mass. Based on my experiences with most demoninalistic churches, a lot of them are money grabbers.

 

 

 

I went to a church that used the word donate 59 times in a single sermon. I left halfway through another one because the guy said we have to donate 50% of our income to the church.

Yeah, Catholicism could be interpreted as a bit more extreme form of Christianity. Many Catholics are some of the most devout people to their Lord and their God you'll meet.

All denominations that believe in Jesus Christ are Christians as they follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, when the reformation took place the Protestants did not refer to themselves as Christians but instead Protestants, Lutherans, Anglicans, Baptists etc etc.

They're referring to methods of worship, interpretation of the Bible, and how the clergy, you know, is, Kranked.
