Hey there, i was just playing rs with a friend, and he pronounces karajama as

 

kar-ah-jah-mah, when i say it like kare-a-jama. So i asked him how he pronouced other places, like varrok, ardounge etc. Turns out we pronouce like 80% of places differently, so i was wondering, how do you guys pronounce odd places, do you know if you have any bad runescape place pronoucing habits, and whats the wierdest runescape related pronounciation (sp?) you've ever heard?

It's Karamja. Pretty self explanatory IMO.... Ka-ram-ja. You might put the stress on a different place, but that's about it.

 

 

 

There's the more interesting ones though, like Ardounge. Ar-doo-in is apparently what Jagex says is the way to say it.

 

 

 

Then there's Tirannwn...I mean what the hell. I just say teer-an-win. (I pronounce that a like the first a in Anastasia)

I pronounce Karamja like "Car-auhm-jah".

 

 

 

Ardougne - "Are-doon".

 

 

 

I always mispronounce Falador as "Fal-door" instead of "Fal-ah-door".

I pronounce Karamja as "That hellish place with poisonous critters coming out of the wazoo." Ardougne is "Thiefville" whilst I call Falador "City of Garish White Bricks and Garish White Knights." Furthermore, in my dictionary, Varrock is pronounced "Lackovanimalcontrolle." And finally, you have Lumbridge, humble Lumbridge, which is simply "Newb Orleans."

Ardougne: Arr-douh-gun

Ardougne is the strange one. I've said it as "Ar-dung", "Ar-doug-nay", and i've seen people say they pronounced it "Ar-doyn"..

I have some weird ones because when I was a new player I misspelled the names, so I mispronounced it too. I never actually revised my proununciations. So these are the sounds my 11 year old, bad reading and grammar skills, mind came up with.

That's exactly how I say everything in my head. I'm pretty sure Ardougne is suppose to be Are-doyn. I think it was in one of the God letters or Postbags, but I don't care. It's Ahr-dune to me. :thumbup:

:lol: I just pronounce Karamja like it says, "Kah-ram(or rum)-jah". It doesn't seem that weird of a name to me.

 

 

 

Although one that I find weird is Ardougne. I remember there being a Postbag from the Hedge where Jagex explained how it was pronounced. I remember it being something like "Are-doyne".

I too find it weird that people mispronounce or misspell Runescape names, even I as a Dutchman get 'em right. A friend of mine used to play RS as well, and he always said 'Karamaja', and I always corrected him, but he never learned :roll: As for my list of names:

 

 

 

Karamja = Kah Ram Ja (<= a Dutch J, not an American one)

 

Ardougne = Ar Don Je (<= same as above)

 

Lumbridge = Lumbridge (difficult that one :lol: )

 

Varrock = Farrock

 

Burgh de Rott = Burk de Rot (sounds kinda Dutch, so I don't have any difficulty with it)

 

Gu'Tanoth = same

 

Tirannwn = Tear Ann Wn

 

Lletya = Letlia (wrong I know, but Lletya sounds horrible in Dutch)

 

Misthalin = Mithaldin (got that one wrong from the early years, think it sounds better ;) )

For some reason, I always say Ardougne as Ar-bou-gne. I must be a [developmentally delayed] because I keep wanting to stick that b in there :P
