Sweet16s/Debuts: Big waste of money or BIGGEST waste of mone

Featured Replies

Well, my birthday ALWAYS ends up being during(a couple of days into) a massive multi-church camp which my family insists on attending each year, so my birthday usually takes place with a few friends in our caravan. It's always fun though, and we never spend more than $10(just the cake, there's a water pump close by if you're thirsty :P).

I can't seem to understand why some people feel that it is a MUST for one to have a party on their birthdays else it will not be considered a birthday. Whats more is that the "Parties" that they speak of is those with tons of decoration, presents and musical guests... I always remembered that happening at McDonalds occasionally.

The party I speak of would be to just do whatever as long as Im having fun and eat a cake at the end of the day.

Break the Walls down!

Yeah, I've never had more then $200 NZD on a birthday, excluding when I got my christmas and birthday both in the same present (my computer ^^)

Hah that TV show....God, biggest waste of money ever?

Then again, their parents have so much money whos actually going to care.

I'm 16 in December, and I'll just invite my mates around, get some nice food, prolly go karting or get my mate to bring his Ps3 around (most likely)....Pretty much perfect Birthday for me, lol.

Doomy edit: I like sheep

I didn't even do anything for my 16th birthday

I don't celebrate my birthday :?

Yeah same, I see them as a waste of time lol :/ normally end up with a few friends round just to stop my parents standing round complaining and going "but ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY!!" -.-

I had my 16th on August 12th, and all I did was have a barbecue with a small group of friends and family. It was probably my smallest and least expensive birthday ever, but it was just a fun as the rest of them!

P.S. If you really have to have at least one huge birthday party in your life, make it your 21st.

Yeah they are really stupid my girlfriend's sister just spent 30k on her Sweet 16, should of been on that show.

Well I am a guy...but when I turn 16 in a few months I am going to get a Honda Civic Hatchback from the 1980's, and then I will have to pay for the gas and insurance. -.-

Sweet sixteens: As if we needed another reason to hate MTV.

I'll be sixteen in a couple months, y'know what I'm going to do? I might hang out with a few friends, sleep, eat some cake or something, and go out at night to have fun with the old formula of laser pointer + crowded, nighttime street = fun. :twss:

There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.

I didn't do anything for my 16th birthday and I would consider my family more well off than those snobs on "Sweet 16". My dad raised me better than to behave like an inconsiderate snob. I was so happy when I found out he was getting me a $50 gas card a month to help me out. My dad never does stuff like that. We learned that if we want something then we have to work for it. I've been working since I was 4 or 5 and that was at my dad's company. I'd sit there and shred paper all day.

I <3 Gears of War 2.

Add me on Xbox Live and mention you are from Tif :D

On my 16th it will probably include me going to uno's with friends then eating cake at home with my family. Also maybe write a song during the day. Who knows. And having a band playing at your party would be..awkward..i'd do anything just to meet my favorite band, having them play for me would be weird though. If anything i'd rather play with them :?

Mine was simple. Cake, pizza, energy drinks, and a long night of Halo 3, CoD4, and Dead Rising.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

lol 7k? you can get a fairly nice used car for that much, and buy it new for 20k. for my 18th i didn't even get a rust bucket :| the only thing that is good about them is there atlest spending all there money rather then letting it sit in the bank

Agreed, that's my desire for my sweet sixteen. No fancy Cadillacs or obscurely named rapper performing for 5 grand a minute, or MTV paying me to act like a [bleep]. Celebrating birthdays shouldn't be a big deal after you turn 10 or so and realize Chuck E Cheese is a fraud.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

I also had a couple buddies over.

Mine was simple. I think I went to the cinema. Notice the 'think' part. It was hardly memorable.

My opinion on 16th's is that they're overrated. What exactly is it that's being celebrated more than any other birthday in childhood? Maybe in certain countries you can finally sit your drivers license, or legally drink, but I don't see any other reason.

Even 21st's don't need to be a right out royal affair. They're supposed to be the beginning of adulthood, but a get together with mates and family with a few drinks is nice.

I doubt anyone is going to care about whatever milestone age anyone has here in Singapore. To them, a birthday is just a damn birthday. On my 16th... I'm just gonna invite some friends over and have some fun.

On my sixteenth birthday, all i actually plan to do is ask for the money my parents would be willing to spend on me, so that i may get something nice, and or save up, then I'd possibly go out for a meal with my family.

I dont understand why people will pay well over 1k for a party, when you can have more fun at lazerquest and macdonalds, and spend the rest of the money on something that will last longer than a mere couple of hours.

I love this sig.

Agreed. Its truly pathetic. You know what i want for my 16th or 18th Birthday?

A couple of gifts, and hell, maybe i'll go insane and invite a few friends round or watch a movie

16th I think I went go carting or something.

17th I went to a pub with a few mates.

18th I want to have a party with my mate who I share my birthday with all my mates from school and around.

So which would you prefer?

1. Have your friends constantly yell "Happy Belated Birthday" to you, buy you cheap presents such as erasers and a miniscule sponge cake or...

2. Live your regular life and only eat an ice cream cake at the end of your birthday with your family and you would get 1 present of your choosing?

Break the Walls down!

The sound of spending that much on a birthday party sounds ridiculous tbh  My "Sweet 16" is in a few months, since my actual birthday in on a school day (a monday on that note) I can't do much, so the weekend before it, I'm going to have a few friends, have a BBQ, watch a few films and play some games. Should be fun. <3: But! Since my school is going to the theatre on my birthday, me and my friends are going so we might chill and relax.

Well, screw the presents, i would be happy even without presents (which anyway they don't get me cheapskate crap :P) And, we cut the cake at around 8pm, which is say.. roughly around 2 hours after my friends leave.
