Sweet16s/Debuts: Big waste of money or BIGGEST waste of mone

Featured Replies

i hate all those spoiled kids in that mtv show. all they do is complain about how all the expensive stuff they get for their party isnt enough. my parents never spend more than $70 in my birthday which is more than enough for me, those kids get a $200'000 party and they cry all day about how "miserable" their life is. they deserve to be shot -.-

Noooooo, not shot. Too quick and painless. Give em to Lenin to sort out.

That show makes me want to kill the idiots that are celebrating.

Otherwise, On my 16th, I simply went out to eat, and had a few friends over, ordered pizza, had an ice-cream cake(cake completely made from ice cream), and we went through an 18-pack of soda. We had a LAN party set up, and played CSS and Call of Duty 4 all night.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

OPEN WIDE HERE COMES THE HELICOPTER.

Ridiculous. My parents want me to have an 18th debut party complete with long silky gloves and a cotillion. Yuck, I just want a beer.

Ultra Unholy,

Hearted Machine...

I know right? I hate those bratty My Super Sweet 16 kids that have alot of unnesscary and expensive stuff for a party.

If their parents love them so much why do they insist on making her look spoiled?

Just because your family is successful and has lots of spending money doesn't make you a brat.

Labeling people, gah.

He's not labeling them. Watch the show and you'll understand.

I bet more than half the people posting on this thread are hypocrites.

Oh, and I didn't realize they were talking about the MTV show. Sorry, Baal.

MTV isn't about the music anymore. :\

Elevators have better/more music than mtv.

On Topic: You know what I had for a 16th bday party, a bbq. You know what it was cheap, efficient, and came tandom with paintball guns, redneck ftw. Besides 21 is a much better age to turn in America. Barhopping for free shots, the American dream.

Who really needs to spend that much on a 16th party anyway. Why can't all parents be like a stereotypical Jewish person, no offense to Jewish people, and hang on to their money like its the plague.

If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.

I find it amazing how those people act on My Super Sweet 16, it's like they have no grip on reality and worse still, their parents accept and encourage it. I'm a simple sort of guy, on my 21st (I turned 21 on 22/8) I just went out drinking with my mates, it was a pretty good night, I think I paid for one drink all night.

I didn't go out until the 23rd to celebrate though

The only thing I got for my 16th birthday was a shirt and 50 bucks. The parents that spend thousands of dollars on a party just don't know how to say "no" to their children. It makes me sick to watch that sweet 16 show, because the spoiled little brats whine and complain whenever they get a red Mercedes instead of a black one.

My bro spent like £50 on cheap vodka and french beer... Around 60 people turned up. So if you buy cheap you can always have a good time

Luck be a Lady

The MTV show is just a hyped of version blown out of proportion.

Actual Sweet 16s are only $600 to $1000, generally because of a DJ cost.

A lot of my friends have invited their entire grade (which is like 200 people?) for the event.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with wanting to have a one time huge celebration in your life. It's only natural to want to have the attention all on you with people coming for you.

Invite 20+ people, get like 20 things of pizza, rent out a building, get a DJ, and that's a proper sweet 16, and that's usually what happens.

Mind you though it's usually only females that do the big sweet 16s so it's not surprising to read most of Tip.It not getting why they (females) do this. /stereotyping

Though I don't think you need to spend over 10k just to enjoy a party, I mean it's nice but I myself would rather just have friends over or maybe go bowling and have some pizza.

I think he's referring to how spoiled the kids in the show act. Watch one episode, I dare you. The show thrives off the kid acting like a spoiled 5 year old, demanding their parents and everyone who's organizing go out of their way to make everything perfect, and throwing a tantrum if it's not. If a rich kid has a nice party, acts responsible, and in the end the night is filled with wonderful memories and no huge incidents, by all means, throw a 10 grand party. But for the Super Sweet 16 kids... heh, they're a different story.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

This has interested me in the show, I think I'll watch one.

This is the only ridicilous aspect of America. Celebrating and wasting that much money just because you turned 16? Oh please, I had some beers and chilled a bit with my mates but that's about it. Excessive waste of money. Ridicilous.

It's not just America. There's quinceaneras, bar mitzvahs, and debuts. I dunno about other cultures, but it's not just Americans.

Yes but there is barely wasted money on both, especially a bar mitzvah... It's religious! Alright I'll broaden up, anybody whom wastes a lot of money on a sixteenth birthday just for being excessive is ridicilous.

;>

On the off chance I ever have a daughter (or, really, children in general), they'll be raised to not care about stuff like this.

I'll be 1 month. I'll go to school, come home, play some Xbox. The only real celebration will be some cake. Heck, I'm not even going to tell my friends it's my birthday. I don't go for parties. Haven't had one since 4th grade. Neither will my children.

These extravagent sweet sixteen parties are ridiculous.

Its hard to understand how kids can be so spoiled and yet still expect more. I respect the kids parents for the had work then put in to get the money to pay for all that, but at the same time, I can't believe they would think it's OK.

I really would like to come back in a few years to see how those kids turn out.

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

I don't have parties. I'll be 16 in late December this year and I plan on doing the same old boring I pick where we eat for the night and some cake.

Parties are fun to go to. But to have a party.... No thanks.

^^ Pretty much what i think.

Aslong as Im not the one blowing thousands of dollars for the party, it doesn't really bother me. But going to them is hella fun

On my 16th birthday, I plan on heading down to the DMV and taking the test. As long as they don't raise the age that is. Simply because my birthday is at the very end of August and I want to get it out of the way before school starts.

I had my first party in years this year, and it was really simple. I turned on three computers (Next to each other), let my friends fool around, had my Wii + Brawl/Soul Calibur (2) as an option, and had some chips and soda. I will most likely do a similar thing in 2 years, if anything at all. Who knows, I might even be in Taiwan at the time. :?

TBH, they could use the money from a sweet 16 to help pay for college. My sweet sixteen was monster energy drinks and Halo 2. I saved myself $19,000 =)

for my 16th B'Day i had a couple mates over and we watched movies, played halo 2 on live and [bleep]ed around.

on my 18th B'Day i got absolutly trashed and ended up collapsing in a bush. was a great day, also u get lots of random wimenz hugging you / kissing you happy B'Day and stuff like that so that was also a bonus.

hmm come to think of it. every weekend i spend the same as my 18th B'Day... maybe not drink to the lvl of toxation as i did but still have a good time getting trashed with me mates =]

I think it's fine for kids to have parties, as long as they aren't obnoxious like on said tv show.

i only live with my mom so i didn't really celebrated my sweet 16, just got a hug and a nice cake. my 17th birthday wasn't any different either. :wall:
