-If you run, do you just do it for fun, or are you on a team?

I do it to prepare for the Army basic training and for good health

-What distances do you run?

1-5 miles a day

-Any training tips?

DON'T DRINK SODA!!!!

It will weigh you down and make you run slower.

Meh, I'm kind of being pressured into running competitively. Indirectly. Or something. I want to do some sport during high school and running and tennis are the only two I'm decent at. Whichever sport I end up doing, I'll most likely sit out this year, to train or something.

The thing is, school hit me like a brick wall, and after a month I'm still adjusting. I've run a few times since the end of vacation, but I'm not getting anywhere. At least I can still run a 7:30 mile...I think. And just wondering, is that any good? I'm a 14 year old guy, [very] underweight, if that matters. I tried looking online, but everyone there acts like everyone should be Usain Bolt, and the answers are always something like "dat sux, 5 mins and less is guddddd." A friend of mine who does XC says he can do a 7 minute mile, so I'm under the impression that it's okay.

Another thing is that I can't sprint for my life (Eh, fine, if I was being chased by a guy with a gun I probably could run fast enough...But what are you going to do, instead of having the guy fire the starting pistol, have him point it at me?), and I can't really do long distance either. I can only do something in the middle, like a mile. #-o

i adore running <3: got school records in 400m (57secs) and 800m(2mins 05) and do x-country for my club and county.

You're lucky that your school has those records. Ours are so freaking difficult to beat.

But anyways, my cross country season is really starting to suck now (although the rest of the team is doing very well rank-wise.). I can't get my running posture back to what it used to be for very long, making my times pretty high. Also it takes me forever to get in shape. I'm only doing 5k's at an ~8 minute pace, which makes me really behind the rest of my team (I would have to do sub-7 minute miles to catch up with the next slowest person on my team). Oh well, at least I only have 2 meets left :D.

Hopefully I can switch over to a combination of biking/running and doing pool workouts on weekends for my winter training. Maybe then I can work on my upper body too.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well our team had our regionals today, and I finished about 78th out of about 250, which is pretty good on my record. Our school finished 4th as a team, which means we qualify for metros as a team. In metros we allegedly have to run up a ski hill, twice! Can't wait :D

I used to run before my final year of high school in which i broke my leg, fractured my knee in my other leg and had a crap load of exams in the impending months.I did particiapte in the yorkshire (man country :P) schools cross country which involved going through 10 miles of muddy countryside and hoping you finished.Had about 80 runners and it wasnt hard to finish top 20 if you didnt stop and you actually finished.

The only running ill probably do from now on is the city fun run which is held at my old school, its for a charity specialising in heart disease and its about 9 miles through the countryside surrounding the school, its pretty fun and you get a free t shirt at the end of it \'

Oh it is! I love hills because those are the parts where I pass the most people (usually) :P

When I was in 5th grade I won a 400m track run. The people said that I was very much ahead of them so I got happy. So from then on I really liked to run.

Tips: you can only run as fast as you pump your arms. It's hard to run quickly without moving your arms at all- just try it.

If some part of your body hurts while running for a long time, punch it and hold it until it goes away. extremely useful.

put your arms up- this increases your breathing rate.

This one's sorta obvious, but when going downhill, jump higher if you're running for speed.

One thing taht I think of is that nothing bad can happen to me. just push the limits, run faster. when you get tired, don't stop. Side effects might not be the best, but only if you're running for over 2 hours nonstop.

Death should not be taken as 'the end,' but a very effective way to cut down taxes.

Gotten my mile down to 8:32, when I had 10:32 two weeks ago.

Planning on eight next week.

You're 14 too, right?

My mile is down (Or...up) to 8 minutes, oh well. My friend told me that if I gain like 10 pounds by next year I could actually do pretty well in track. :? (Well, if I run over the summer like I did these past few months, I could easily cut a few more minutes off my time...)

I run XC and outdoor for my school. i also did indoor last year, but hopefully i will be making the basketball team this year.

I gotta say, i hate running with every fiber of my being and im not very good.

I'm not sure of my fastest 5k because our races have been around 2.88 miles this year. I got 19:55 as a best time for that on a very flat course>_<

I think my fastest mile is 5:58. Today at practice i ran a 6:13 in the middle of a speed work out so i can probably break 5:58 now.

My fastest 800 is 2:23. I got 4th in the Freshmen/sophomore meet with that in out door. I woulda got 5th but my team mate couldnt run(hes much faster than me)

I hate cross country because i cant stay motivated in the races. Thats why i like out door better, the 800 is so much shorter.

Look its rob!

I've been injured for about a week, and haven't posted about it. I ran a 3-mile race last week with a pretty bad time (20:29), and basically limped home. I've been cyclying to keep up my strength and cardiovascular fitness, and started jogging again two days ago. Today was a meet, and I ran it, but just as a gauge to see how I was doing. My time was 22:10, my personal worst by over a minute, and I feel like garbage right now. -.- I'm hoping I can get past this injury, but it basically killed my season. :x

Question - Has anyone else really hurt themselves running? How?

Well, you can get muscle and ligament injuries just by using your legs too much, I do believe. But a lot of people hurt their feet and ankles and toes from running, just because of the weight and force that's in place. Sprinters especially.

What kind of injury do you have?

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I hate running so much, I'm not really sure why. I'd much rather bike, it's harder to bike for me, but I can feel the wind in my face, so...

And, apparently 3 girls at my school, 2 of which I know, set National records on something, like records including adult ones. I don't know much about it.

I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. Comped 4/30/15

Dude, I'm a sick runner!

I would to do XC, but my school has a fall basketball conditioning program, so I do that instead.

After basketball I do track, and I do distance. I run my mile in 5:53, and run my 2-mile in a lil' under 13.

Yeah, pretty ballin'.

I used to be a sprinter, but I have barely trained this year because I'm in grade 12 and don't have the time.

My PBs:

100m - 11.40

200m - 24ish Can't remember exactly

400m - 52 flat - This was the last 406m (inaccurate track) I did, and it was on a crappy grass track so I would have done better on tartan.

The 100m time isn't too good, I did that in grade 10 at regionals and haven't been able to beat it since. I usually run around 11.5

After school I might switch to running 5km. Not sure what my time is for that right now but I run 6km in under 30 mins. Not much of a distance runner right now so I could improve that a fair bit pretty quickly.

Not sure what my time for a mile would be, as I said I'm pretty bad at distance but I think I could do it in under 6 minutes without too much trouble. That's only 6 laps at 1:30 per lap.
