Greater demons = best option 4 me?

Featured Replies

I know slayer is the best way to go to collect charms.

Unfortunately... I've only been a member for 2 weeks and I'm still level 1 slayer (pathetic, i know) and really, really want to get to 52 summoning ASAP.

I read several guides and the wiki article on summoning and i think the best option for me is to use around 800 gold charms to get to 32 summoning.

Then i think the best option would be to do straight crimson charm pouches until 52.

Getting the gold charms isn't too much of a problem for me, since they drop off the giants and some other easier mobs. However, for the crimsons I have only a few choices. Many of the mobs that drop crimsons well require slaying levels.

I was thinking about going to waterfiends, but i'm only 70 atk, 70 def, 70 str, 70 hp, and I don't have the range levels for Kharil's (no where near). I guess i could slap some torags on, pray magic, bring tons of sharks, supersets, and hope to survive but i'm not quite sure whether its worth it/efficient at all.

Considering this, are greater demons my best bet for crimson charm gathering? I need around roughly 800 crimsons i think.

Thanks in Advance

have you had any experience with them? how's their drop rate compared to waterfiends?

btw i read your guide. was pretty helpful, and i'm definitely going to use it a lot when i actually start slayer.

It would take me way too long to level slayer to the level i need to gather crimsons. i really need that terrorbird-totally necessary for maximizing profits/managing inventory space! :wall:

  • Author

how long do you suppose itll take me to gather roughly 700 crimsons from them with my stats?

  • Author

30... hours? i really hope not.... #-o

If that's truly the case then would i be able to reach 52 summoining faster by actually leveling my slayer even though its only at level 1? rofl

edit: did some calculations on my own... found out it would indeed take ATLEAST 30 hours of game time....

SIGH.... any other suggestions? or shuld i begin my slayer lvling frenzy?

Just train slay.

You'll be training it sooner or later anyway. Check the questreward page for quests that give slay-xp. At your cb, the first levels of slay go wicked fast, then a few quest to get some easy slaylevels; you'll be 50 slay in no-time and 65 for dusties shouldn't take that long either.

  • Author

thanks roeckie... it seems your suggestion is the best option for me actually.

i went to greaters.. they are not as common as i hoped they were... roughly 1 crimson every 5-6 kills

edit: i wonder though... are waterfiends a viable option? would each trip atleast payback what i'd spend going there? (pray pots, super sets, food, etc)

Waterfiends will just own you with your stats. Start on slayer now, get some combat levels in the process. The charms will stack up, you will see.

You really should train slayer.

Good way to get charms.

yeah if you cant/dont want to train slayer greaters are your best bet, good luck :)

As much as I do agree that training Slayer has many benefits, it is not the best way to get charms. Many Slayer monsters are poor charm droppers, often focusing on green charms which are the worst from a cost efficiency standpoint.

You may be too low level for waterfiends but there are many other options. Check out the Charms Resource Table that's part of my new monster guide. It will give you lots of ideas.

When we talk about waterfiends, everybody thinks that you need karils to do it......and you dont, d`hide body and chaps are pretty good too....

If i were you, i would give a try at waterfiends and check how good you can do it...if its bad, go fo slayer, since its important to have 55+ slayer :D

Actually high level slayer monsters drop lots of crimson charms. Sumonas assignments are mostly green though

Duradel: estimates

Abberants, Gargoyles, kalphites - mixed bag not the best charm dropper

Abyssals - 30%+ crimson dropper

Greaters - 25% crimson dropper

Nechs - 30% crimson dropper

Waterfiends - 70% crimson dropper or so maybe more

Black demons - 40% crimson dropper

Dagganoth - If you fight in chaos tunnels, 25-30% dropper id say

Skeletals - around 100% crimson dropper or more (drops 2 at a time)

Scarabites - very good crimson dropper

Dust devils - 25% crimson dropper

Dark beasts - I hear 25% blue charm dropper

Metals - bleh mostly green but I dont fight these

Gorak/sugah/terrorbird - no info

Fire giants and hellhounds - gold charms, bleh

Bloodvelds - well yes green dropper here

Spirtual mages dont drop charms

but as you can see most duradels assignments = lots of crimsons, way better then camping in the long run. sumona will get you tons of greens though. ie basilisk, turoth, kurask, bloodveld, etc

So basically all the good melee crimson droppers are slayer assignments. and you get one of them fairly often. I got 88 summoning purely off slayer, im guessing that from 1-99 slayer and 1-99 summoning you will hit both very close to the same timeframe from pure slayer. Yes that is slower then pure waterfiends/ice bursting lobs. but thats 2 "hard" 99s and slayer funds it all as well. Pretty nice i'd say

Dragon Drops: 80+ boots, 7 med, 3 skirt, 2 left half, 2 Spear, 2 2h

Slayer: 30+ whips, 4 Bows, 1 Mask, 3 Granite Legs, 1 Visage (Wyverns)

Notable GWD Splits: Bandos Tassets: 12, Bandos Chest: 11, Bandos Hilt: 2

Proud Slayer of 99 Att/Str/Def/HP/Range/Summoning

Actually high level slayer monsters drop lots of crimson charms. Sumonas assignments are mostly green though

But the OP has a very low Slayer level.

but as you can see most duradels assignments = lots of crimsons, way better then camping in the long run.

Yes, it's good for raising combat and Slayer. But if charms are specifically what you are after, Slayer is much slower than just using a good charms monster.

But then you're not maximising your XP. I prefer getting slayer, combat, HP and charms.

According to your nice table, greater demons are my best bet.

I went there last night... pathetically i managed 15 charms in ONE TRIP.

I didn't time it, but that was a full inventory of monkfish.

I need around 650 crimsons charms... that would take me ATLEAST 30 hours gameplay time at the greaters if i use pots, etc.

ATM i am leveling slayer... lvl 20 doing lesser demons rofl.. i think i will go to duradel soon.

It's qeltar!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On topic if you want slayer levels the charms are decent. Charms aren't best w/ slay though.

Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again

Well, i need crimson charms, and the only monsters that are good crimson droppers that i can access without slayer are rock lobsteres, waterfiends, and greater demons.

Rock lobsters would trash me, i can't mage at all (lvl 55  ).

Waterfiends i'm not sure whether i can do them. If anyone has a definite answer as to whether someone with combat stats of 70 str 70 def 70 atk 70 hp can do them with superpots, pray MAGIC (i can't wear karil's for magic protection).

Greater demons- i tried them. managed 15 crimson charms in one trip. I would pluck my eyes out by the time i reach my goal of 650 crimsons.

ALthough, i've been looking at truthscape's chart.. and it lists dust devils as below greater demons in efficiency... so would i actually gather crimsons SLOWER at dust devils than i would at greaters? that would SUCK because my next best bet would be skeletal wyverns which i'm sure would trash me and require a slayer lvl of 72....

Looks like i'll never be able to hit 52 summoning... atleast not until i get my stats up in the 80s :wall: :wall:

Someone please tell me it isn't so :ohnoes:

EDIT: what do you guys think about me farming the lvl 88-lvl 90 daggonoths in chaos tunnels?? They require lvl 1 slaying i think.....

Your best option if you just want crimsons are waterfiends but you are going to have to train.

First of all you need black dragonhide or Karils. 70 range isn't hard to achieve, you could even range greaters in the Ogre Enclave and telegrab the few Crimsons you will get. Then you need protect from range prayer. Then you need a weapon with a crush option, dragon even rune scimmy will suffice.

You won't get many kills per trip but you will get a Crimson most kills.

Or you could just use gold charms. Albeit slower summoning XP, if you only want 52 summoning then using just gold is feasible, then you can camp at Fire Giants.

With your stats, Waterfiends will tear you apart. Their range is much stronger than their mage.

TRAIN. SLAYER. SERIOUSLY. For you, it'll be the absolute fastest way to not only level summoning, but to increase your combat skills all around in order to camp at a monster that drops high rates of crimsons. You do not NEED 52 Summoning to be efficient or to maximize efficiency. It is very helpful, yes, but we were being extremely efficient before Summoning.

Train Slayer.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

You need 100 combat for Duradel. I doubt 70 in all melee stats brings you up to 100.

Oh, and at 40 summoning you can summon bull ants. Their scroll is the exact same as the terrorbird (restores your run energy by half your agility level), though they can only hold 9 items instead of 12. But 40 summoning is a lot easier than 52.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

you could try water fiends but getting slay up until 72 for skelly wyverns would b your best bet if u just want crimsons if you don't hae enough by the time u get there

there is a way to do water fiends withought decent range gear and i ussually use this instead of range gear

what i usually use is torags body and legs and a crystal shield this gives you great range def so use pro mage

some people tell yout his method stinks but its all about luck water fiends use mage and range attacks sometimes they uses there mage att more other times there range so either method is just as effective sometimes more sometimes less

but at your level youd still only get a few per trip so slayer is still your best option

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!
