Tim
my semi-formal attire is a suit-top over a clean t-shirt and jeans. looks nice on me anyway. as for ya pic, yeah undo the top button without tie. looks more relaxed rather then standing stiff as though your best friend married your mother. =\ I've always thought you need a reasonable bulk to pull off suspenders. 1 word: Pillows. : Popoto.~<
Intriguing
I'm gathering it's a bit too late, but I think the best way to go would be nice pants, leather belt, leather loafers, a dress shirt tucked in, with the top button undone, and a sports jacket over the top. But not everyone has a jacket. Cool.

deloriagod
What's homecoming? Where I'm from it works differently and I'm too lazy to go search  Homecoming basically includes a football game (where your team is expected to win), a parade, some "dress-up" days at school, and a dance. The dance is semi-formal so it requires you to dress up a bit and bring a date (though some people choose to go alone). Although I would've had the chance for once, but because my girlfriend's parents are [bleep]es, she can't go :S I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal. jackattack
I'm telling you. Go with the suspenders. And I'm not joking either. They look bossy. I've always thought you need a reasonable bulk to pull off suspenders. I wouldn't think so. I don't know though. My carbon footprint is bigger than yours...and you know what they say about big feet. These are the times that try mens souls...
BlueLancer
Confusing thread really, I've been to multiple parties/occassions where semi-formal didn't involve a tie at all. Maybe a blazer jacket and a good italian white shirt, but never a tie. (Maybe the customs are different in some parts of Usa/Europe) Usually, a (neck)tie is only worn when the host requires "formal dresscode" in the invitation. If it's a party a bowtie might be used. andufusthebronze
He's talking casual like you would be casual with a boss. Anyways, take my advice, and wear a white silk dress with it. Bring a harmonica in your back pocket, too. Oh crap, you've probably already had your homecoming, huh? My bad  Ours is next week, or the week after. Can't remember. Fix'd. What did you even change? :?

Althalus
[hide=Picture Here!] Haha does this work? Plus fancy shoes, of course. If no tie, unbutton top. If a tie, leave it buttoned. I think it's fine.[/hide] OMG Koalas, watch out! But in all seriousness, for future reference I think Semi-formal includes a tie and a long-sleeved dress shirt. If they tie has a pattern then stick with a solid colour shirt and vise-versa. Of course dress pants and dress shoes but if you're the kind of person who can pull off formal attire with sneakers without coming off as a jerk then go for it (good dress shoes are expensive and you don't wear them that often). Never button your shirt up all the way if you're not wearing a tie, it just looks weird. I'm guessing this is all too late but you can't say you didn't learn something. TheBatman
The material of the shirt should be the skin of a beast you have slain recently. Its blood will be your pattern. You should wear a tie.
Erk02
MATCH YOUR BELT WITH YOUR SHOES! Just had to get that out. Black belt? Black shoes. Brown belt? Brown shoes? Brown belt. Clashing this makes your entire outfit look off. By way, I'd recommend a slim-fit shirt with a slim tie. It's currently "in." I do English to Japanese and Japanese to English translation for free! Just keep it under 5 sentences, and PM me to use my fluency in Japanese to your advantage!
