Well I was browsing the RuneScape Official Forums tonight, knowing before I even logged into them that stupidity and children lie ahead. I decided to go ahead and make a topic in the Future Updates forum the topic would be about trying to get players to relax about the update and to try and stop making so many useless threads but to alas I was soon bombarded by stupidity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was accused of "Mini-Modding" for making my topic I guess trying to help out the forums just gets people on your case of how you are suddenly trying to become a mod. Another poster then states he doesn't know how long I've been around and tells me if I've been around long enough that I'd know the forums are always like this right before an update is about to come out.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The stupidity on those forums just simply amazes me, honestly now I am not being rude here when I say this, but I have not seen anyone as dumb before than the ones on that forum. I don't just mean this from the people in my post but having a look around at all the other posts as well. I suppose I will just have to not post there unless it is extremely important.

Just about every forum in the entire internet has this same stupidity--it is so common that it has become part of our digital culture

For some benign reason alot of people dislike being told what to do by those they view as their peers. This happens everywhere, not just on forums. It's human nature.

I avoid certain forums due to their stupidity unless I feel up to a challenge. :P Some forums do have a good userbase though (Forum Feedback, Stories) and others suck. (Future Updates, Game Feedback).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

All in all, there are worse forums out there with even more idiots. RSOF has a large, young userbase and thats the product.

Sides, the other thing that grinds me to no end about the RSOF is that you have to log on to your account on every visit which would take like 1-2 minutes (It may sound small but it is annoying as hell) whereas TIF has the auto log feature.

Avoid Rants, Future and Recent Updates.

 

 

 

Then its not too bad...There are some intellegent posts believe it or not.

Although you are obviously right about all those threads, there are also loads of threads by people telling others to shut up (in different degrees of subtility). And well, I get tired of those too on those forums, all those people who think they are better then the average RSOF'er telling them to shut it, well its not very nice. Its almost as bad as those saying you should have posted a thread somewhere else.

I have a good time in game feedback telling people why "auto alch all in one second" is not a very good update. Or why a "personal sawmill that makes planks for free" is extremely unlikely to be considered.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But, you can't get at people for being annoyed by your vigilante as technically that you are their equal. If you really need to "self-mod", do so in a parent like manner. (not by smacking :shame: ) Just so it seems like a friendly advice rather than try to look as though you have authority over them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Or better yet, ignore them. You can't catch every crime, let alone crimes in a forum.

I don't go near the RSOF, it's not worth it. I say since all the idiots are already there we should just seal it off and blow it up.

You can't expect everyone to know about every single topic on these forums, especially since 95% of people don't go near the Questionnaires sub-forum.

What do you really expect from a forum where 75% of people are 100% certain that behind the frozen door in GWD is either a Guthix or Zaros boss. Despite the fact all rs lore and history tell us Zaros died before the Godwars and his followers were all wiped out/imprisoned before the god wars and that Guthix did not fight and simply arose from his slumber and command the fighting to cease and it did.

What did you expect, rocket scientists? A majority of them are under the age of 13 and at 13 you usually can't hold a mature conversation very well.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I only go on my clan thread and the clan leader forum. All others are crap.

That's a major reason why tif exists. It's just unfortunate that the only place where Jagex claims to listen is the RSOF. :(

Anyway ye Rsof sucks when it comes to rants and updates, your giving people with an attention span of 3 seconds a chance to sprawl what they want about stuff they dislike. Its the only the real outcome your gonna get.

There's rarely any stupid whiners or ranters about an update. Sure we do get a few complaints about updates but they arrive maybe a week after the update when people have had a chance to evaluate it and even then they are thought out logical posts about the flaws rather than jsut omg it iz rooobish!!!!shiftone11!!1!

Does tif get moronic posts like the rsof? yes, but alot less of them

 

 

 

Does tif get smart posts? yes and alot more of them than the rsof

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The biggest difference however is marked in that all the moronic threads quickly filter down the pages as they are left largely reply less or are quickly locked as the posters are directed to the correct sticky or thread, leaving the smart well thought out and valuable discussions up top where as rsof anything remotely smart gets flamed and quickly lost under the swathes of moronic drivel where people just make threads about the same thing over and over none of which hold any true discussion value.

It isn't so much that tif is moronic, it's that people keep arguing, nitpicking, and can't get along even if their lives depended on it. Well, there's some stupidity, but that would be on the off-topic section.

There are plenty of good discussions, ideas, suggestions, guides, etc etc on rsof.

I'd have to agree. The fourm is full of a bunch of young kids. There is a up side to it though.

 

 

 

If your bored and up for a good laugh, jump on the rants fourm and go through all the posts that look like they would be funny, its a good thing to do if your doing something such as fishing or woodcutting. :thumbsup:

Welcome to the world of the general public.

The Official Forums have been a cesspit for a few years now. There are only a few worthy topics in the entire forum, and even those eventually get flooded by trolls and idiots. It's to be expected though, since the average 'scaper is only about 12 years old.

That's why I generally stay away from the official forums.
