Yes but it's hard to be straight if you don't have a fair amount of good/close same-sex friends. Not to say that having girl friends is a bad thing; I'd personally say it's almost a necessity, but if most of your friends/your closest friends are of the opposite gender, honestly, I'd say something's wrong if you're calling yourself straight. It's not universally taboo per se, but in most cases (especially in developmental years), it doesn't sit right with me.

Probably came into this thread late, but just like to say, that i have only a handle full of guy friends, and i really dont hang out with them that terribly much, i usually hang out with girls, they are much more interesting people. some people think thats weird but w\e i enjoy the company, we have good decisions, and i don't know how i have a girl friend if im gay :?

Well.. I guess I'm pretty hypocritical on this idea, actually. I used to have a lot of guy friends, mostly because the girls in my area are definitely not people that I could ever have a serious/interesting conversation with. The guys were always so much more down to earth (things have changed a little bit in high school though..... now most of the guys are just as bad as the girls, but in a different way). However, I always get extremely jealous when my boyfriend is friends with girls. I definitely trust my boyfriend, but the girls are far less trustworthy :P Half of them seem to be obsessed with him, which makes me very protective :P

With me living in a house full of women all my life, my father left my mother when I was two, I've found that I enjoy being in the presence of women more then men. I have about equal amount of friends in both genders, but I have closer bonds with my female friends.

I do have to say that I am straight and in a good relationship right now. The reason why I have closer friends who are girls is that I have only lived with women, and I know somewhat how they feel and such. I have lived all my childhood with 4 generations of women in my family under the same roof, no men cept for me.

 

 

 

I never had any known man moments when fathers and sons talk and do activities together and sometimes I am really confused with other guys masculinity. Now a days, that feeling has lessened in frequency with me currently living in a college dorm. My number of guy friends has gone up, but they aren't strong enough bonds as with my friends who are girls that I've known my whole life.

I agree with that somewhat. I can almost always talk to my girl friends when I have something on my mind, but sometimes you need that male bonding. In my case, it doesn't always work. My male friends are very chauvinistic, and I can't relate to that at all.

 

 

 

But you know, sometimes you just need to kick back with the guys, eat steak, punch each other, chop down trees, and make fart jokes.

Same with me, guys are [developmentally delayed]ed to hang around with. Whenever I do, every 5 seconds, the talk strays into sex and innuendo. Or just dumb jokes. Sure, I have a few guy friends, but mainly girls, they're just more, in my case, intellectual. But hey, what's wrong with having millions of chick's #'s on your phone. :XD:

Yeah I agree... It doesn't mean you're a boring nerd or have no sense of humor if you don't go along with dumb stuff & laugh at stupid jokes/lame innuendo. There's bad and good jokes, then there's plain out stupid ones, which are usually made by teenagers.

 

 

 

For some people it never goes away, they think they're grown up yet still act like 12... But generally speaking from life experience, people often change at about 19-20 years old, most often towards the better. Doesn't apply for every person, but you'll be able to have an actual conversation way easier with a girl/guy in their early 20's or late teens, than the typical 13-16 year old hormone raging kid.

I've found it quite interesting reading through how many of you find men too immature to spend time with. I find it completely the opposite way. Even having two sisters, I just can't seem to relate to girls and find many of them silly and unfunny. I also generally find women highly complicated creatures to have as friends. My close friends are all guys, all highly intelligent, ambitious and will be very successful but we can still all be debating politics seriously one minute then making crude jokes the next. I don't think i'd want it any other way.

Most girls have an infatuation with drama. If there's no drama, they'll find a way to create one.

Being female and having male friends ain't a problem, I think most of them understand my sexuality. :twss:

I guess it depends on the area. Around here, all the guys are rednecks. And all the girls are drama freaks also. BUty my friends are top of the class people. I mean, whenever I debate with my best friend, she's a die hard Democrat, but we can debate, and we don't shout each other down. But whenever Itry to debate the girls\guys in my core gov't class ( I shoulda taken AP. #-o #-o ) They just call me a racist. :lol:

In a group, I still prefer other women, simply because men can be such idiots when you put them together, especially when there's a female around.

 

A group of women isn't that much better if they start comparing different lipsticks or something #-o

 

 

 

I don't know who I'd consider a "close friend", but the people I talk with and with whom I hang around regularly are of both sexes. I prefer boys because they are less superficial, generally have better jokes and the atmosphere is more comfortable.

I think it's great to have friends of the opposite sex. It gives you a bit of variety, hanging out with guys gets boring sometimes.

I'd love to have a guy friend who is like what you've described (smart, joking, maybe a bit weird.....)
