Um how bout Star Wars?

I mean the last movie ended with the bad guys winning. Not to mention alot of Jedis being killed.

You realize that the last Star Wars movie that just was/still is in theaters is number 3 in the series and that there are 6 of them, right ? The last one, storyline-wise is "The Return of the Jedi".

Ok, I know they came out in a weird order, but if you like Star Wars, surely you know that. Release dates (date-ordered, not storyline-oredered):

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

No I didn't realize I was a geek.

Yes I realize they came in a wierd order.

But.

Did the series not end with the likely defeat of the heroes, which was Ep. 3?

By order of name, yes the good guys won.

By order of appearance, the bad guys won... Im going with this one.

Geek ? What are you talking about ?

Go with whatever you want, though I believe the storyline matters.

Then both people are happy :D

Maybe I'm missing something, but with Collateral, doesn't the protagonist ("Max" / Jamie Fox) save the woman ("Annie" / Jada Pinkett Smith) and kill the antagonist assassin ("Vincent" / Tom Cruise) at the end? Or are you referring to the victims along the way, which still doesn't make sense cause he asked where the protagonist "dies/fails", and through my perspective, Max both survived and suceeded (in rescuing and assassinating Vincent) :? ...

the horror "Saw"

spoiler on how they die:

both main characters failed to escape a bathroom by 6:00pm, even though one guy sawed off his leg to get to his cell phone, but anyways, the dead guy in the middle of the floor ends up being the psycho killer, just acting dead, so he gets up, says "people are so ungrateful to be alive" so he goes to the door, walks out, and says "you failed" and closes the door, leaving the 2 guys to die, and its creepy cuz one of the guys just screams "noooo" when the door is closed.

Scarface- The protagonist gets killed in the end by some minions of a druglord he managed to p/o

I didn't know what a protagonist was so I used Dictionary.com which came out on the following:

1. The main character in a drama or other literary work.

2. In ancient Greek drama, the first actor to engage in dialogue with the chorus, in later dramas playing the main character and some minor characters as well.

Since Vincent is one of the main characters and he dies I thought I'd mention him, I didn't know there was an Antagonist too, and in a way Vincent isn't really a bad guy, IMO.

Perfect Storm

1. Everyone died

2. Worst movie I've ever seen

2. Worst movie I've ever seen

I completely agree. Nearly 2 hours of waves, then everyone dies. What a waste of my life that was.

Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.

Sorry, but I can't let this one slip by...

Worst. Logic. Ever.

The order they came out in has absolutely nothing to do with weather or not the good guys win. The series ended with Episode VI(6): Return of the Jedi, when the second Death Star is destroyed and the good Rebellion winning over the evil Empire. Episode III(3): Revenge of the Sith is set roughly 20 years before Episode IV(4): A New Hope. Then it is another 4 years from the events in the beginning of ANH to the end of RotJ.

If I tried to make a bad analogy: If there were two movies made about World War II. The first one to come out takes place on D-Day and then follows the allies moving into Germany and ends with the allies winning. The second to come out (Set before the first) ends with, oh let's say, the Battle of France where Germany invades France and has an upper-hand in the war.

By your logic the Axis would have won WWII.

I don't know how to make that any more simplistic.

Final Destination 1 and 2. Everyone dies.

Also Kingpin, a rather stupid movie, but the main character loses the bowling match to his arch rival.

kingpin was a funny movie lol

Twelve Monkeys -- starring Bruce Willis, with a cameo appearance from Simon Jones, who played Arthur Dent in the Radio and TV series of HHGTTG.

SPOILER

The main character has a reccuring nightmare about seeing a man die in an airport. He himself is sent back in time (to all kinds of crazy times--but eventually to the right one, a few years before the "troubles" began). Eventually he has to get on an aeroplane and prevent some huge disaster... but, you guessed it, he (in his disguise, so you don't see the plot twist coming from the start) gets shot.... and that's the end of the film. Weird, huh?

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but Nineteen Eighty-Four was made into a film.

SPOILER

I won't go into huge detail... it's 1984 (the future, when the book was written) and England (Airstrip one, of the superpower Oceania) is a strict communist nation. The main character, Winston, tries to rebel, meets a lady, falls in love with her... etc. At the end of the book, they're captured, tortured and betray each other. They don't love each other any more, and Winston realises that he loves Big Brother (the figurehead of The Party--the rulers of the superpower).

The book is a warning on how NOT to make a commune work--George Orwell (the author) was a strong socialist, who, after seeing how communism was being done in Russia, made huge efforts to warn society about the risks and problems associated with that sort of communism--Animal Farm, another of his books, is about the same sort of thing.

Oddly noone has mentioned it, but a good one is Troy

Achilles, played by Brad Pitt is an unbeatable god like figure. He killed thousands of men, and was/is a legend. He kills Hector, who is the Prince of Troy, next in line for kingmanship. They fight 1 v 1, Troy kills him. This is the first part where protag #1 dies, being Hector. Achilles is also a protag, which is what makes the movie so great. Protag vs Protag, theres no real good or evil. You root for both of em to win. In the end, Paris, Hector's brother, kills Achilles with a shot (arrow) in the ankle.

geeez, Troy is a big one. Hector, Achilles, Ajax, Priam, Agamemnon, Menelaus, Patroclus. there all main characters, but mostly it would be eric bana as hector and brad pitt as achilles.
