Advisor Ghrim and Flatpacks- BAILOUT FOR PPL WITH FLATPACKS

I guess this could be locked but I think we can change gear and discuss what this update did to alot of people as far as killing their cash piles unexpectedly.

Disclaimer: This is in no way profitable anymore but there was an update that allows you to recieve some of your cash back if you have spent to buy flatpacks just for the purpose of making profit . If you have leftover flatpacks read the whats in the hide tag below.

[hide=BAILOUT LIMITED TIME]

For people whove completed the Fremennik achievement diary, weve now made a change which will be in place for one week only. This is to help out people who have ended up with lots of hard to sell items due to gameplay changes we have made.

Our apologies to the people who ended up in that situation, mostly due to some poor communication on our part.

The following flatpack items will be able to be exchanged for money in your Miscellanian coffers with Advisor Grimm, for most (but not all) of the grand exchange cost of their components.

Gilded magic wardrobe

Marble magic wardrobe

Gilded cape rack

Marble cape rack

Magic cape rack

Also please note that for this one week period, the xp gained for making these flatpack items has been temporarily reduced. (but not for ones made in place in your house)

We would NOT recommend these as a good choice of items for levelling your construction.

[hide=Old update]

Hi everyone,

The following post is from the Content Development team and concerns the recent construction update.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rewards for the Fremennik Achievement Diary included the ability to sell flatpacks as an investment in the coffers of Miscellania Island. The difference between the cost of materials for making a Magical cape rack and the value of the item itself on the Grand Exchange meant that there was a more substantial profit than originally intended available to players who have high construction levels. We apologise for this not being sound on release.

Today we made a change, lowering the Miscellania value of that cape rack to fix the problem. In addition, we are making similar changes to the other flat-pack values to ensure that they can not be in a similar situation if their price on the Grand Exchange changes in the future.

We believe this will leave the ability being more what we had in mind- somewhere you can sell the flatpacks you make where there is a constant demand to absorb them. The values for the items will not be high, as the large supply of flatpacks produced means these items have low value in the game. However, this ensures a constantly available return of some of money invested in the skill, should you choose this strategy.

We would encourage players to be cautious about any new content which appears particularly good in terms of experience or financial benefit. It is safer to report a possible problem using the bug report form than to expose yourself to possible financial loss as some players have claimed they experienced today, or to possible penalties for bug abuse. The number of reports we have received demonstrates the maturity of the community who have recognised something inconsistent with their knowledge of the game, and been responsible and helpful in reporting it. Many thanks for your help.

Our priorities today were to fix the problem and avoid it being abused further. To this end we had a fix live as soon as possible after investigating the reports, and avoided alerting players to content we were not happy with and felt could be abused. You may be reassured that currently we have no intention to take any action in the game against players who might have used this content.

Thank you.

[hide=OLD way to profit]Disclaimer: This is in NO way profitable anymore

It is funny to watch all the complaints on forums about the Fremmenik lvl 3 reward. So far it is the most generous achievement award to date.

It is true that majority of flatpacks were devalued as a result of the treasure trail expansion. Thus, the materials cost is way higher than the trade in value at Advisor Grimm.

But, what about those flatpacks that are not TT rewards? Marble cape racks, marble wardrobes, even the magic cape rack?

Well, a cursory glance at the GE prices reveals that their value is indeed higher than the materials cost, thus creating the possiblity for profit.

Now, profit has been gone from Construction for quite a while now, so the lvl 3 award is a very generous boon to players with high level construction. (It reminds me of the advantage given to crafters when the karamja gloves came out - all of a sudden, the cost on an uncut onyx was almost halved when one traded in obby weapons while wearing the gloves. That meant that high level crafters could make 2-3 million profit per fury made).

But back to the issue at hand.

At the moment, any lvl 84 construction worker can drink tea and use a saw to make marble cape racks - the profit adds up to about 50k per inventory after the trade with grimm

A lvl 90 construction worker can make marble wardrobes and bump the profit to 20k per item or about 500k per inventory traded to Grimm.

Similarly, at lvl 93, construction worker can make magic cape racks and trade them at about 25k profit or about 600k+ per load.

This is serious money, and on top of it, it is tied to the supply and demand charts on the GE. (Meaning that it is here to stay because there is no market for flatpacks...)

What the fremmy reward also means, is that people can train for the first time with serious qua****** of marble or magic stones. They can be purchased easily in Keldagrim, money permitting of course.

So. It is incredible that people are complaining about the reward. It is about the biggest boost that construction can get!

Furthermore, the relationship between GE price and Grimm's pay mans that flatpacks could rise and become profitable in relation to their component materials in the future.

What surprises me about this update is only the following: given my suspicion that the lvl 3 fremmy reward was made most likely as a sink for all the low value flat packs that currently fuel the junk trading second economy, why extend that sink to high value flatpacks as well. This creates inflationary pressure on the rs economy that might offset the initial gains.

On the other hand, this could be just Jagex's way of 'priming the pump' in a Keynesian sense in order to stimulate the economic slump. If that is the case, maybe Jagex finally heard all the complaints on forums and hired an economics advisor.

That would be a riot

In any case, what do you guys think of this astounding situation?

Is it a turn to a more active management of the economy by Jagex?

I'd love some mod clarification on this as well, but given the recent silence on significant matters, i am not hopeful.

too da loo.

[hide=Some living proof]

I made 31m profit yesterday by doing magic cape racks. It's not really a bug so I'm going to get as much money as I can with it.

1000 magic cape racks ftw  .

edit: Oops. Actually I made a little less than 30m. I forgot that I had some items in ge and got 1.5m from them. Still 29.5~k per magicstone is awesome.

What about the 7.5m limit? The money goes straight in to the coffers, meaning that although this may be a good way to make money, it still has a limit, thus making it not as good as it seems to be.

You can take money out of the coffers the person with the TIG account TUBA made 10M doing so, so there is realy not much of a limit.

One other thing is, this would technically be available even to people who have not completed the Fremennik diaries, since they could sell for under the GE price to be bought up by other players which have the boots which may prefer to simply exchange the cheaper item (remember, it can be several thousands of difference between the GE price and the minimum price) to Ghrimm for fast profit.

Seeing the functionalities of this feature really makes me wonder whether Jagex will nerf it or not. I thought construction was a gold sink? Well what are they doing making it extremely profitable?

this will definitely be nerfed, maybe not completely removed, but nerfed

it is very well possible to make ~3 mil or even more/hour with construction

that blows even double natures completely out of the water

not only that the profit is purely inflationary and construction, while it takes ~ 15 mil to reach the initial lvl 81, it can be trained to 90-96 construction for marble magic wardrobes relatively easily (90-95 if you dont mind using tea/crystal saws)

assuming it takes 30 hours to earn the 15 mil

and it takes 10 hours to train to lvl 81

then an additional 30 hours to train from 81 -> 90 using gilded flatpacks(which conveniently earns you 20 mil profit)

that's a total of what, 70 hours to gain a money maker comparable or even better than double natures?

40 hours if you already have the 15 mil banked, since you will earn it back (and more) by the end anyways

You basically made 30 GP for every 1 XP you got that is an insane amount of quick profit for the money drain skill.

I'd advise you all to be careful, this is obviously going to be changed, and could do at any time. So bear that in mind if you're planning on buying 40m worth of marble, that they could change it from now to when you're done.

Of course it's also potentially bug abuse, i mean, in theory it is obviously not, but jagex could see it that way for obvious reasons.

Just be careful.

We all know once they hear of this they will manually change the GE prices but it wasn't today so we're safe unless they update again today which is unlikely. The basic thing is do it while you can and be quick about it.

AAARGH MASSIVE NERF ALERT!!!!

I had 1m in my coffers, went to buy 3 magical cape racks at low price (around 1m ea), went to grim and he said, fine ill take em . So i sold the 3 racks, looked in my coffers but there was only 2.2m there.

Ran back to the ge, bought a flatpack of 468 coins, went to grim. He said : "fine ill take it for 468". Gave it to him, looked in my coffers and there i found 411 coins. The greedy bastard!!

So yeh, if you dont want to lose 2m instantly, dont do the same as I did.

oh well I can't get to the lvl needed from 70 in time to abuse this even if it still works :(

I odnt even have a high construction, buying at low and selling for med would net around 50k each magic cape rack, and they were buying instantly at low :| thats 1.4m for a inventory... Aka huge, easy profit.

Yes, but the forumla seems werd. He paid only 57 coins less (around 10%) for the cheap item. But he paid nearly 2 million less for the expensive ones. Maybe hes paying the alchemy prices now.

Unfortunatly this got nerves and I found out the hard way this morning I bought 42 magic cape racks andnow I have to sell them and most definity lose a few million.

If anybody wants to buy one. I'm willing to sell at 900k per so I can get rid of them. I'm desperate.
