Barbarian Assault - Doing away with the second healer.

Featured Replies

The trend has been, seemingly since this mini-game was released, to ALWAYS have two healers at wave 9 or 10, and many people think that this is the only way these waves can be completed.

I'm here to debunk that theory.

The two healer method DOES have its advantages. For one, you can task one healer to killing the Penance Healers and the other to keeping people alive. Also, there's the fact that it makes it far easier to keep everyone alive when you have two people healing. However, the drawbacks are that healer is one of the easiest jobs to complete if your team is competent, and tasking a second person onto it often leaves one or both people having nothing to do for long stretches, especially if either one of them is higher level.

Personally, my method of choice is always the two attacker method - the attackers have the most mobs to deal with, so putting a second person there can usually help finish things up quickly - vital on wave 10. Also, the faster that their mobs die out, the better, since they're the only ones that can really dish out damage. The problem with that is that attackers generally take far more damage than anyone else, so a single healer is kept VERY busy - I speak from experience. If your healer is a higher level, however, that dilemma is partially resolved in that he doesn't have to follow the attacker around emptying his entire vial just to heal 40 hit points (if you're not aware, healers heal 35 at level 5). A higher-level healer can heal the attackers, poison 3-4 healers, heal anyone who needs healing, refill, and repeat. And once the attackers kill off the rangers, the healer's task becomes MUCH easier, and he can finish off the straggling healers.

Another method that holds some merit is the two defender method. This method is especially useful if your defenders have trouble - which is understandable, as defending is one of the hardest things to do. Advantages include finishing up the runners much quicker, leading to increased points for everyone and more time to heal up on wave 10. Of course, for every upside there's a downside - without a second attacker, the damage mobs take much longer to die, and without a second healer your team is going to get beat up.

Either way, all I'm trying to say is that the two healer method is NOT the only way to finish Barbarian Assault - in my opinion, it holds less merit than the two attacker method, especially with a high level healer.

Well I solo it all the time, but I'm a master healer. I also solo'd at level 4. With 80 def, even wearing only full ba, as defender I don't need healing. It really depends on the def of your team mates. I wouldn't be supprised if they all have 80+ def and are wearing decent gear you should be fine with 1 level 1 healer. Also, on level 10, the collector should just operate the horn of glory until the queen comes.

quit

I disagree.

I have alot of EXP. Lvl 5 in everything except COllector(2), which anyone who masters this game will understand.

It is easy to solo the Boss, however 2 healers is BETTER than 2 attackers. Killing the healers before the Queen comes is easy, expecially when you don't loose any points. That allows you to guess if you don't get a call right away.

The thing is, with a lvl 100+ attacker, it is VERY easy to kill all of the penance before the queen. The benefit of 2 healers is incase some person wonders off. Many noobs will gather at the platform and spanm the cannon. Effectively canceling out each other. Although at lvl 5 heal, I have no problems keeping up with this.

drinking from the pool takes time. Time your teammates could die. Healing each other is best.

Although if you have a good team, it really doesn't matter what you have 2 of.

But for a lower leveled group, or one just to be safe, 2 healers is ideal considering 2 attackers will leave 2 people doing nothing early on. healers can do something the WHOLE game. Attackers do not.

In higher leveled groups, then 2 healers is byfar better.

TBH Barbarian Assault guides are not needed. My clan was able to beat level 10 several times (I have full Penace) with only 1 healer. And most of the time it was a lvl 1-3 Healer.

Thanks for telling us what most of us already know.

I solo healed the penance queen as a level 4 healer, with lvl 80(?) combat \'

If you can manage with one healer, go for it, but otherwise two is a real help.

I mean, in the end, you should have 2 of whichever the weakest link is. But if its well-rounded, you can't go wrong with healers. They can work the WHOLE fight. After the others finish their roles, they just stand by.

Well, don't forget 2 Collectors, especialy on earlier waves, which may be dumb speed-wise, but very smart points-wise (ofcours, considering all of the team is good at what it does, and the healer is level 4-5, the attacker has good defence, etc).

  • 2 weeks later...

I think it very much depends on the individual team as to what you need 2 of. I have a fair amount of experience with this game, and healing in particular (level 5 healer, level 3 collector and defender). The few times I've managed to be on a high level team at wave 10, I had a fairly easy job of healing everyone, but when the average level of the team is below 90 or so, I'm always going crazy to take care of everything, even with a second healer to help.

Personally I could never manage wave 10 without a second healer to help, but that's more because of the teams I tend to have than anything else. My second healer is usually level 2 or 3 and not used to the craziness of wave 10, and so I have to do most of the healing and half of the poisoning, and guide the team through the critical queen-killing phase while trying to keep everyone from dying.... maybe I just need to find better teams. >.>

Anyway, while doing this is certainly possible, it isn't always the best course of action.

Obtained quest cape and base 92 before obtaining any 99s! Currently finishing out my 99s with the (long-distant) goal of comp cape.

this is not a guide, why you feel the need to disprove some theory in the guides section is beyond me

Though entirely possible to kill the queen on level 10 with a single healer, unless you build your own team with friends or happen to get on a 90+ish team, it's just not practical. I've done it several times, and most times my head about explodes with everyone (mostly the inexperienced ones) yelling at me to do my job when I have to keep them alive. However, with either a good team or a decently high HP team (70+ HP) it is by far easier doing it with, say, two attackers. A good defender should be one of the first people done on wave 10, and two collectors would just be plain stupid.

So, while possible, for most teams it is just a waste of time to do other than take two healers.

P.S. Shooting the cannon in no way, shape, or form affects anyone's scores.

Flyingjj.png

Being myself a master healer, i say it has it's advantages, but 2 healer is by far a better circumstance, otherwise i have to keep healing everybody (as most people in BA are 90-) and healing myself, ending in having no time to poison the eggs.

With higher lv teams i suggest either 2 not so experienced healers and 1 good defender or 1 experienced healer and 2 regular defenders.

My 2 cents

I agree that 2 Healers arent neccisary on wave 1 through 9... But on wave 10 you're usually going to need two of them (not all of us have lvl 5 Healer)... I disagree with the suggestion that you have to put your spare person on Attacker...

By far the most difficult job to to is Defender as it consists of a multitude of tasks;

- Drop the right stuff to bait the Runners to the Trap

- Drop the wrong stuff to make them run back into the field away form the Exit

- Call out

- Gather Logs and Hammer

- Repair the Trap

On top of that, letting a Runner escape costs your team the most points

Compared to the other classes which each have no more then three tasks, nor lose as many points for a mistake, I recommend to get two Defenders on wave 1 through 9...

I'm a lv 5 defender (am lv 5 everything, but defender I was already on the first day it came out).. And what can I say:

Yes 2 defenders really helps you maxing out points etc, IF DONE RIGHT!

only 1 defender should actually put stuff at the ground (lure): otherwise you're often working against each other.. The other defender should only repair the traps, disable 2 portals, and maybe put the correct stuff directly on/adjacent to the traps.

2 defenders only work if you're really know each other.

I myself once was in a 120+ (I was the only lv 110 guy) team.. That time we used an extra collector! - simply because we did the waves very fast anyways, and that extra eggs really counts, but that was only during wave 1-8.

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Meh, I still find 2 healers easier...

Although to the person above who recommended 2 defenders: Defending is my favourite role, and having 2 defenders is terrible, they just get in my way. I'm usually the first one done on wave 10 when I solo defend.

I'm a master healer and have done plenty of runs with either 2 healers or 2 attackers. The only way it will work with 2 attackers is if everyone knows what they're doing. If even one player is weak and clueless, you're screwed with only one healer. That healer would have to constantly accompany the noob player. What I like to do if I'm the only healer is make it my first priority to kill all the penance healers. Then I get rid of all my leftover food and go heal my attacker and defender. If one of them is struggling, I sit with them. The ideal situation is that the attacker and defender can sit next to eachother, so the healer doesn't have to run around. The attacker helps protect the defender from the onsloughts while I keep the defender's hp up and can keep an eye on the attacker as well.

Two master healers is often overkill. The penance healers will die quickly, the other players will be kept at full hp, but most of the time the healers will just sit there in case the defender gets owned. It's probably better off having one of those healers become attackers and own the penance that the attacker struggles with.

I actually found defender to be incredibly easy. But overall, I think 2 healers is still best.
