Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Rated Adult-Only

Featured Replies

i dont see the problem here, you need a mod to get to it. you can put nudity mods on all kinds of games, and they all dont have a mature rating. and whats the difference between 17+ and 18+ ? only one year isnt going to make a difference. and if im 17 and want to see some sex, im going to go out and buy an r rated movie (anyone seen eyes wide shut? there was a full blown orgy scene but it only got an r rating). this is just stupid.

It does deserve an adult rating, of course it does. Does that make it any less of a game? Or is it going to stop under 18s getting their parents to buy it? Don't think so.

First of all, I need to ask why they give it an adult rating, when they could just remove that part of the code and keep it at whatever rating it was before.

Next--I think it should be an adult rated game anyway. This isn't to say I don't approve of violence, or that I think that it'd stop kids getting their hands on it. What it WOULD do, though, is give the idiots like that Mrs. Clinton (from what people have said of her in this topic, I judge her to be an idiot--I have no knowledge of her outside of this topic, so if she's not really an idiot, I take it back) less ammo when it comes to game bashing; If it's already an adult rated game, they can't moan about it not being, if you see what I mean.

I myself was a big fan of the GTA games 1 and 2. I didn't much like 3, as it didn't have especially good graphics, wasn't really that violent, and I can't stand those controls--the way he jumps, the way he fights, everything seems wrong to me. Vice city I found to be no improvement, just more of the same, albeit more of the same with a few more vehicles and more talking.

I've not played San Andreas myself, but I've sat in a room with someone playing it for long enough to realise that it's just like the other two; at least, not enough has changed for me to really enjoy it.

Getteth me not wrong, though: they're good games, and it is fun to run around murdering people on the streets, and seeing how long you can escape the police... I just don't really like "something" about them.

Back on topic, though (sort of). Yes... I've not seen the bit of GTA:SA in question, but I'm sure there are far worse things that one could do in most games, with enough effort; the sims, for example, as people mentioned.

I've not payed enough attention to gather whether or not the scene is actually there hidden in the code or if it has to be added by something else; if it's there on its own, then I'm against it even though it's innacessable if you don't go looking for it--now that people know about it, they can go looking for it.

Anyway, I don't care either way, really--I just think they could've all handled it better.

99% of stores will not sell a game with that rating to someone who is not 17.
That might be a bit of exaggeration...I have 20+ M rated games, and I'm 15...I've only ever needed a parent once and it was on this game. So this then means that retailers are already not selling this game to minors...
bestsiggycopy5bo.jpg

Am I the only one who think it sounds kinda stupid that games can violense, killing, war, and all that kind of evil stuff and they just get rating 15. But when there are boobs then its 17? And even if it had an actual sex scene in it (Uh-oh yeah you heard right, a sex scene  ), it shouldnt get 17.

I mean c'mon, who 15 year teenager havent seen that already? And besides sex is a natural thing and it doesn't harm anybody, unlike violense, killing or war.

Reality is hundreds of times more beautiful and more interesting than delusions. Fairy tales just tend to be easier to follow than the wonderful intricacies of life.

I doubt anyone ever died from watching a few pixels have sex with their clothes on, except possibly from excessive laughter.

That's part of the problem though. It's not just pixels anymore. The line between reality and computer-generated images is becoming increasingly blurred. I mean, look at where we were with computer game graphics 10 years ago. Think of where we'll be 10 years from now.

Although, there is the possibility that we could hit a wall soon, and what we have now is as good as we'll get for a long while..

Would watching a movie containing violence and sex harm those under 18 years of age any more than a pixel-y game would? It doesn't really matter how advanced the graphics get, it still won't be real. It'll always be just a bunch of pixels.

It depends on what you'd call "harming" a child. Looking at women as sexual objects instead of people creates shallowness.

Shallowness is often what women hate about men, and I'm positive games like this do not help this matter.

summerpngwy6.jpg

should have been AO to begin with

- Only character in Runescape History maxed out in RSC and RS2

i just watched a movie, "barry lyndon", rated PG (means basically anyone can buy it, i dont even think there is an age restriction) and it has nudity in it. two women dont have any tops on at one point in the movie.

If shallowness is such a problem, I think you'd be better off creating restrictions on advertising rather than on games. Whether shallowness should be "prevented" or not is totally a matter of morals, it's hardly dangerous as such.

Still, I'd be willing to accept that games create shallowness the day when there's not at least 3 semi-nude models per commercial break on television.

Well I'm like totally chuffed because, I live in the UK and I think GTA:SA was already 18 rated... Also I'm 19! So HAHAHAHAHA to all the little 17 year olds... Who should already have it anyway.

Notoriously Trollish.

No it shouldn't be AO to begin with

I played GTA:SA, I don't really remember any scene where woman are treated like dirt or sexual object. Well apart from the women who are doing their job or get fired.

We have a man who truely loves a woman and treat her with respect.

A brother who protect his sister from a man.

I don't find anything shallow in GTA:SA.

The material in it includes these stuff to make it a M rating game

-useage of drugs

-violence

-refrence on drugs

-strong language/insults

-refrence on sexual material

------------------------

It is not that harmful to a 17+ teenager. The material aren't that bad compare to a modern comedy film with a PG rating.

If GTA has raping or inhuman stuff like that. Go ahead, make it an AO rating game.

It they want to move on to the games so no one are "offended" or "harmed". Fix the advertisment, music industry and the movies first.

They insert women are sexual object to the kid's head a billion times more than GTA:SA.

Wow, that's a first

Pleeeeeeeeeease don't say they need to "look at other games" that deserve an AO rating. If they start sorting through every game to put AO ratings on them all that have the slightest inclination of sexual themes, violence, etc, we'll end up with a game that is about throwing wooden Christian crosses at evil minions of Satan, set in the Roman Christian persecution days, all while praising the Lord. BARF!!!!!!! (Link is to a game of that Nature made by a moronic Christian Gaming company, AKA Whiners of Earth.)

What did they expect from a game named after a crime that will land you 10 years in prison? Fairies? Pixies? Bubble gum and dreams of Jesus? Pleeeeeeease, it's a game about jacking cars, shooting people in the face (usually for no good reason other than "they were in your way"), drug dealing, and prostitution. I actually would be disappointed if they left the sexual themes part out...I'd feel like they were slacking.

I haven't seen the Hot Coffee Mod, simply because I DO NOT CARE, as the rest of the world shouldn't either. Guess what? If anyone under 17 is playing and see's it - It's their parents fault for buying it and letting them play it. I'm tired of everyone BUT the parents being blamed. The next outraged Christian mother to step forward with her voice, I hope she gets hit by a car by an avid GTA player. I honestly do. They can turn the other cheek to sin, but they can't just turn the other cheek to other people playing games? Shut up, hypocrites.

It's rated M for a reason. It means you have to be Mature to play it. Anyone who complains, no matter the age, isn't "mature", now are they? That game is marketed towards the base of Gamers - 18 to 24 year old males. Everyone needs to shut the hell up and mind their own for once.

I bought another copy of GTA: SA just to spite whiners. I honestly did. I now own it for Xbox and PC, and it won't even run on my PC..

By the way...What good does it do to up the age 1 year (M to AO rating)? That helps nothing. Anyone over 15 is FOR SURE mature enough to play it. Are people oblivious to the fact that from the age of 14, all any male is concerned about is getting laid? Yea, I think they're mature enough.

Who can't love a game with awesome weapons like a Light Sword that converts Roman Soldiers on contact? I wouldn't call them idiotic for making that game, it's made by christains for christains, it's not a recruiting tool. I think you're taking the game a little too literal, there aren't too many ways to make a first person shooter that promotes christianity, and from the sound of it, they aren't too serious about the game's geniuosity anyway, just a fun game for christains.

Loath though I am to compliment such a thing as a Christian video game, I must say, having seen it on TV, it doesn't actually look terrible . I mean, no, it doesn't stand up to any of the modern "normal" games, but 4 or 5 years ago that would've been amasing.

I think, however, that that game deserves an AOCO (Adult Or Chrisitan Only), because of how it could influence young children of other religious persuasions--seriously, give that game to an impressionable youngster of another religion, let them play it without adult supervision, and they might believe what it shows them, and start trying to convertRomans with their swords of light!

OK, so that was a bit over the top, but I am serious about how dangerous it could be to introduce that sort of thing to young kids who don't know any better. After all, if we're being open minded about this*, their religious beliefs are just as valid as those in that game.

*I once again remind people of my agnostisism, in case they saw what I just said as in any way favoring one religion over another--can't be too careful, you know; there're probably a host of people out there who'd want to jump down my throat for hypocricy (what with me being the biggest hypocrite in the world, after all (do what I say, not what I do)).

They should investigate the Sims. There's more sexual content (graphic or not) in that game then you'd find in most MA games :-?

In the sims even there's a cheat to remove the shower when their showering! Another code to have it not blurred out when you remove it. Atleast that was in The Sims 1, when my cousin had it.

They would have to try dang hard with #2 not to make the same happen... lol graphics are better, and there are some preatty perverted people out there.

Don't worry all, The Sims two is now being attacked by Jack Thompson (who along with Hilary Clinton and Leeland Yee basically started the whole San Andreas incident).

Read this article...It's ludicrous, and he backs it up with the fact that this is how it is "...according to video game news sites...". I can't see how he can judge it when he's never played it...

Taken from the article:

Thompson this afternoon updated his earlier statement, saying he is aware certain mods only remove "the blur," but adds that "Electronic Arts has done nothing about this." Thompson's new conclusion: EA is "cooperating, gleefully, with the mod community to turn Sims 2 into a porn offering."

Anyone who has played The Sims knows the developers had no intention of it being risque, and it's not. Now, I've been known to dislike Electronic Arts, but I hope they give this Thompson a good legal smacking.

I dislike EA strongly too (BF2....ranked servers...gah!) but I hope they do give this guy a good legal smacking. He's basicly attacking any game that could have nudity in it.

well.. news for him, almost anygame could have some sort of adult content. Simply get a model for counter-strike or half life, wallah, nude models. Even a game as simple as.... I don't know, take a childish platformer, could be moded fairly easy to show nude models.

the fact is, with the technology of today it's very easy to put adult content, into any game. Just simply make the model, put it into the game, and wallah.

now sure, the ones they are attacking the people are actualy ehm... doing something, but from what i've seen in that sims article, it realy doesn't show anything anyways :/

Guess what? If anyone under 17 is playing and see's it - It's their parents fault for buying it and letting them play it. I'm tired of everyone BUT the parents being blamed.

Yesterday I witnessed this at our local Game. A little boy no older than 8 or 9 was at the counter in front of me handing over a game he wanted to purchase when the the staff member asked his mother who was looking about the shop with her even younger daughter, if it was OK to buy it. She didn't even look at the game, instead just nodded her head and said "aye". I noticed this game in particular had a 16r2c16dy.gif rating. It wasn't the worst game in the world but I'm sure ELSPA rated it 16+ for a reason (game was Midnight Club 3).

If I ever let my defenses down and have kids, I'll still be an avid gamer but I will NEVER allow my children to have a game that's rated as high as that, I mean COME ON! It was like 8 years ahead of their time. :?

I always forget the most important part of a post...I've done that several times now.
bestsiggycopy5bo.jpg

Well, the Hot Coffee mod was actually part of what was distributed to stores. Rockstar says that the mod shouldn't have been found, ever, by anyone. The guy who cracked it said he only had to change a bit of code in order to make it available. The ESRB didn't see the Hot Coffee mod when they reviewed the game, and whenever someone submits a game they must show the ESRB everything. So, there's a breech of contract between Rockstar and the ESRB now.

A great man once said "My life is my honor and my honor is my life"

Well, im a 16 year old english guy..and i've got GTA:sa for the xbox..not wanting to tamper with that and after hearing a lot about this "terrible shocking mod" on tv i thought..hm..the game already has drugs, prostitutes, huge amount of violence, speeding, bombing, hijacking of anything...this must be REALLY bad to tick people off. So i went online - found a media download of it and honestly..it's nothing bad, well..nothing i haven't already seen in a film do people complain over that? No. So why this..i don't get it. It does NOT even look real if you get off on blocky flat faced strangely colord pixals then yea ok it's for you..thankfully here in england they don't kick up such a fuss - it's already rated 18.

No one particuly cares about pornographic material..i mean the mods for the pc now most people have access to the internet..loads of pornographic material there..a lot more better then pixal garbage no? so whats next? 18+ on the internet? That's loaded with pornographic material A LOT worse then some pixals. Man people are stupid.
