trapical
I'm a banquet server for a Hiltion in my town. Last night I serving at a dinner that was outside the building in a huge tent with about 500 guests and 20 servers. Some huge Casio hosted a party for its stock holders and inside this tent they had gambling and an open bar (bad combination). Anyway my job was to walk around and pick up plates when people finished eating. As I was doing this I walked past the blackjack and roulette tables that were in a corner. I noticed a sign "MIN $200, MAX $5000". There tables were packed and everyone had handfuls of poker-like chips of several colors; from the looks of it not everyone was putting down the minimum bet  As the night winds down people are dead drunk and they start to leave. I had a few minites until my shift ended and as I cleared a plate off a deserted table I picked up a napkin and found a handful of chips... I mean like 15 or more... they didnt have numbers on them that said how much they were worth but I knew at least half of them were worth more then 200 (the minimum bet) and at least 5 were worth a lot more then 200  Were talking an excess of $3,000 dollars here... at my table... and the owner left and went home dead drunk about half an hour ago. So, yea... what would you do?
insane
I'd give 'em back. They'd notice they were missing, and the first people they'd ask about them are the employees. That's of course not to mention it's stealing and dishonest.
Erik
I would have kept em.
Antrune
I would bloody take em! He went home drunk, hes not gunna remember when he put them. Hes probably so rich anyway $ 3000 is like $10 to him. I woulda taken em 8) And no lol why do you always want to get stuff from John Lewis. Its over ̣̉300 more then than what i paid. John Lewis is a great, great shop. trapical
One additional problem that seperates this scenario from the "I found a wallet, do I return it?" scenario. Remember these are poker chips, there worthless until you cash them in. And the only people cashing them in are guests, I mean, the only way to get money off this is to involve someone else, like a guest, and split the profit 50/50... Do you risk asking someone you don't even know?
Mercifull
When the people get over their hangover and find their winning tickets missing you know who they are going to suspect?.... Its not like theres no evidence pointing to you Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. NorthernHero
I suggest you won't keep them. $ 3000 is money, even for rich people. Offtopic: love the song in your sig trapical :) . Reality is hundreds of times more beautiful and more interesting than delusions. Fairy tales just tend to be easier to follow than the wonderful intricacies of life. dymed
If it was a random $3,000 cash and I was just a guest, I could see where the "do I take it or not" decision comes in. However, in your scenario, there is no way I would take it. Like you said, it wasn't in cash and to redeem it, you'd have to get someone to go into a game with it. Also, as a employee who was cleaning up after the party, you'd be one of the first people suspected. $3,000 is not worth those risks, at least to me. :? Greatsilverwyrm
I would probably turn them into my boss, or whoever was running the gig, in vain hope that I might get a small reward for my honesty.. :( Must really suck to wake up the next day and find yourself short $3000... although if you're willing to gamble while you're dead drunk I suppose $3000 might not be so much.. Legolover64
I would have put them in a secret location, and if someone was looking for them, give them back. If not, it's your money.

trapical
Here's what I did: I put the napkin back over the chips (didn't wan't some other customer to steal them) then turned to a fellow employee that I know well. "Dude, this guy just left like 3 grand's worth of chips on his table" He was surprised but didn't have a solution either :/ I few minutes later got a cell phone call from one of the workers at another banquet in a conferance center a few miles away, he told me to tell the chefs they needed more deserts and then asked me how my dinner was going, I said it was cool, they were playing poker and stuff. He cut me off: "That's odd, I thought you can't gamble in Wisconsin unless your on an Indian reservation" It hit me, no wonder these guys were playing sith sutch high amounts without even blinking when they lost $500--It was all play money! They got something like 20 grand in fake chips when they walked in and they played just for the fun of it. Lol. Did I feel like a putz. So I went over and pocketed the chips whilst I cleaned the table, after all, they were shiny

rocketman089
The fact remains you were working at a casino. Casinos don't make money by hosting play poker tournaments :? . Wisconsin is pretty well known for having large Indian Reservations anyway. Ending sounds like bs to me, but maybe I'm wrong. Bmw
Lol awh, that sucks. If it were real money, I honestly dunno what I would have done. I would like to believe I'd take em and keep the money, but I'm just such an honest person, dam! But yeah, if my conscience would let me, I woulda kept em. Let me restate the first line of the first post on this thread: "I'm a banquet server for a Hiltion in my town". I don't work at a casino, I work in a restaurant. The hotel itself has a Ball Room that we have banquets in, but it's summer and there were like 500 people, so the booker (TOP DECK casinos), decided to have it's dinner outside. Once again, it was not a poker night, it was a formal dinner for the stockholders, before the dinner they had a meeting and went over some stuff (or so I assume, I just saw people carrying projectors and brief cases a few hours before the dinner began). But anyway, thats all besides the point.

misterxman
Take almost all of it, leave some so the drunk guy thinks "Oh I guess this was it, I was too drunk to remember", move to another state, work around drunk people again, repeat the above steps = free money. JK, yeah just giving back the money was the right thing to do. Not to mention the guilt of spending that much stolen money which is probably not fun to feel. okiebrian
Well, let's assume that the chips were real.... Pocket them, but don't cash in on that day. Visit the casino later, and cash them in at that time.

____
Interesting situation Trapical. And a rather quiant end to it aswell :P But the answer the original Q: I would've handed it in. As much as I could've needed 3K, being in chips wasn't going to help me anyways for reasons Trapical pointed out later on.
