March 15, 200917 yr Treasure Trails are one of the only aspects of Runescape I know of where effort does not equal return. You could do a sixteen part treasure trail and still end up getting a few purple sweets and maybe a mithril dagger, while someone else gets lucky and has an easy trail leading them to some third age armor. Note: I am not suggesting that treasure trails be made easier or drop higher stuff more often My suggestion is that the drop be generated when you get the clue scroll, and the difficulty of the drop should be coherent to the value of the items. For example: I just finished doing a level 3 clue scroll. Here was my journey: -Three double agents -Two level 54 wilderness coordinates, both in the same spot right near the Chaos Elemental -The Troll slider puzzle, twice in a row -Normal anagrams All in all, I had about 9 clue scrolls before I finally got my prize of: -28 rune bolts -13 purple sweets -a magic longbow -Guthix Page 1 A total value of 87k for a venture that took me several hours. I could've stayed at gargoyles and gotten twice that much per trip. I've had even more difficult and lengthy level 3 treasure trails that resulted in 10 purple sweets and some adamant armor. In conclusion Treasure Trails are a waste of time for the 99% of us who don't get out-of-this-world luck with drops, and go against the idea that the more time you invest in something in Runescape, the better return you will receive. I should be able to know that if a clue scroll is going on for a long time and is taking me to dangerous areas and has a lot of challenge, that something big is coming.
March 15, 200917 yr I that that the reward should work somewhat like LS. The more bad rewards you get, the greater the chance of getting a good reward. Really, I've done dozens of lvl 3's, and my best was a sara full. And it totally obliterates my second best. (Though I have gotten a robin from a lvl 2, but lvl 3's are harder and should give better rewards). When you go feather dragon god, you never go back.
March 15, 200917 yr agreed. The rewards suck usually, and on the offchance you actually get a treasure trail item, its worth nothing because everyone else has gotten it also.
March 15, 200917 yr I don't think you can get 9 clues on a single trail. Dungeoneering isn't a skill. I'm faster than bots at Sorceress Garden. PM me if you want to chat. My PM is always off. My keyboard is on fire. Want some?
March 15, 200917 yr Addy armour from lvl 3s? #-o Three months banishment to 9gag is something i would never wish upon anybody, not even my worst enemy.
March 16, 200917 yr *You can't get addy from level 3s *You can't get 9 clues or 16 clues in a Treasure Trail *That shouldn't have taken hours to complete, maybe 20 minutes But yes, Jagex should improve the Trails somehow. ~It's Super Effective! (The Zaaps Blog)~My YouTube Channel, where you get to watch me go around and make a fool out of myself and all comp capersGuides:~Yeah I wrote them once~Suggestions:~Yeah I made those once~
March 16, 200917 yr Author *You can't get 9 clues or 16 clues in a Treasure Trail The sixteen was an exxageration, but this is how my procession went with my latest level 3 clue scroll: -The castle in 54 wilderness -Double Agent -Back to 54 wilderness -Monk in Duel Arena -Nardah near the cacti -Slider puzzle -Another slider puzzle -Queen of Etcetaria -And finally a chat with the monk again *That shouldn't have taken hours to complete, maybe 20 minutes I am not very good at sliders, especially two in a row. *You can't get addy from level 3s I misspoke, that was a level 2 clue that I received adamant from. As Draconic would tell you, I'm obviously not the only apparently so stupid as to mix up two keys right next to one another on the keyboard.
March 16, 200917 yr The rewards are fine, it takes an average person no more than thirty minutes to complete one from my experience.
March 18, 200917 yr It's fine as is. Puzzle boxes take me 3 minutes, clues take less than 20. Rewards are supposed to be random. If you're not good at clues it's your own fault. quit
March 18, 200917 yr I have to agree. For the vast majority of cases, clues are not worth your time, no matter how fast you do them or how skilled you are at completing the trickier parts. It's only if you have god-like luck that they are. In my opinion, clue scrolls should be a rarer drop, and the reward should have a minimum value proportional to the overall difficulty of the trail. I'm all for some insanely rare and valuable drops to mix it up, but it's the rewards that us average joes get should at least be worth our time. ~ W ~
March 28, 200917 yr i think that clue scrolls are kinda annoying. before you get another one, you have to drop or complete the first one. and you just know ur not gonna get anything decent from them. i mean, ive done about 10 lvl2s and got alot of stuff thats just really hard to sell. . . im not sure how this can be fixed without every1 in rs only doing these or trying to get the drops... #-o well. its a signature guys. hehee d:][
March 28, 200917 yr i like clues and i think they r fine the way they r. i have my share of bad rewards like rune b axe and some fire lighters. but i also have my good ones. i have gotten 3rd age kite, sara plate, blessed zammy hide, sara helm, guthix legs, many prayer book pages, and a robin and those are just some of my "good" rewards from clues. none of them i got in the same clue. and when i get sumthing good it seems i have to do many more before another good reward. but i have fun doing them =] and i think they should stay the way they r
March 28, 200917 yr I had 3 slide puzzles, 2 coordinates, like 4 anagrams and several other, and what did I get? Around 50 swordfish, rune platelegs, and some firelighters! :x 1000% support! Proud owner of the Quest Cape since 31/08Quest suggestion: The Shadow of a Delver
March 28, 200917 yr For example: I just finished doing a level 3 clue scroll. Here was my journey: -Three double agents -Two level 54 wilderness coordinates, both in the same spot right near the Chaos Elemental -The Troll slider puzzle, twice in a row -Normal anagrams That's an average level 3 for me. The Sliding puzzle are easy. But yeah, I've had a string of gettin crap, so I'll support. Luck be a Lady
May 30, 200917 yr Yes, the drops should be re-vamped. Treasure Trails that are: A) Longer (i.e. 8 string clues v 4 string clues) B) Require Higher level quests C) Require trips into high level wilderness D) Ones with a large number of sliders (for those of you out there who fail at them) should have a higher percentage of getting better items. But, if you are effecient at treasure trails like I am, I'm sure you really don't mind how they currently are. Example, the one I completed this morning took no more than six or seven minutes earned me: (625k per hour, if you were wondering) That is average for me and I'm happy. Would I like rewards to be re-vamped, yes, but it's not a priority.
May 30, 200917 yr It is utterly impossible to finish a level 3 clue in 6-7 minutes as you described. Drops: Misc: Abyssal Whip x28 , Dark Bow x5, Beserker Ring x3, Warrior ring x1 Dragon: Dragon Platelegs x2 , Dragon Plateskirt x2, Dragon Boots x38, Dragon Med Helm x4, Shield left half x3 Godwars: Godsword shard x13, Bandos Hilt x3, Bandos Chestplate x6, Bandos Tassets x4, Bandos Boots x5, Saradomin Sword x1, Zamorakian Spear x1,. Armadyl Helm x2, Armadyl chestplate x2.
May 30, 200917 yr It is utterly impossible to finish a level 3 clue in 6-7 minutes as you described. Agreed. Anyways, I don't think most people understand that for each step you do, you get an extra reward. BUT, these rewards can stack. For example, lets say an average law reward is 20 runes. You complete a four step clue and get 2 sets of laws, a rune platebody, and rune platelegs. You obtain 40 laws, a rune plate, and some rune legs. Therefore, judging by that, Yuyu's clue was either 6 or 7 steps. and that would mean 1 minute per step. On a level three. Which is completely and utterly impossible.
May 31, 200917 yr Author Six or seven minutes? You wouldn't mind telling us the steps of the clue, YuYu? I find that quite difficult to believe.
May 31, 200917 yr Don't remember exact, but here I go: 1) Slider from Trader stan 2) Bolkoy? in tree gnome villy. chanenge clue 3) Dig in yanile by anvil 4) Slider from janitorin nardah. sliders only take me a min or two to do. =]

Four steps in 7 or so minutes sounds doable if you're a whiz at sliders, which apparently you are. Apparently Ross' theory on one-item-one-step wasn't so accurate.

He couldn't have had 4 clues, he must've had AT LEAST 6, since he got 6 items from the reward, the rewards are totalled by from a minimum of 4 up to 6 determined by how many clues you get over 4. May 31, 200917 yr So that means this was a four step. very unbelievalbe. But hey, I remember four steps and took a screenie of that reward (not this ^ reward).

The 3a robe clue above this post had five steps from the double nature rune reward. My theory is correct. I have checked over all of my logs. You can even go and look at the rsof clue logs if you want?
