Tips on Moving

Featured Replies

Well in a few months I'll be moving from Texas to North Carolina since my dad got a job there. :|

I've been living in the same city for like... 10 years, which is like, my whole life (the 6 years before that don't count because I didn't know anything). Can anyone give me some tips on moving/making new friends? I'll be a senior in high school after I move too.

Thanks in advance

I know not to do that #-o

I don't tend to converse very much with people that I don't know either :wall:

well, try to be nice to people, don't be too shy. If you don't immediately make friends, don't make a big deal out of it. It takes a while for people to get to know you.

and don't be afraid to talk to people you don't know, if they don't like you that's fine. I guarantee at least one person will end up liking you, unless it's a tiny school filled with [wagon] who hate anyone different then themselves.

and try to keep in contact with your older friends, just in case you move back sometime.

Moving isn't fun, but you could meet some pretty amazing people.

the main thing to do is be nice, and not be too shy.

Well, this is what I did...

Talk to anyone really, most people would generally be interested in you because you are the new kid and such, so be nice... If someone tries picking on you, ignore them and such.

Talk to the girl in your new english class... And the guy in maths.

Luck be a Lady

I hear North Carolinans aren't too different from us here. It's like a little slice of Texas, only milder and less populated.

But I've never been there. We have a few kids from North Carolina living at my school though, and they say it's only a little different people-wise. But, considering I hate my town and they probably do as well, I'll refuse from saying anything else.

If you live in north or west Texas though, I reckon it'll be considerably greener there.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Yeah, I currently live in North Texas. I'll being moving to city near Raleigh, North Carolina... wherever that is..

Pretty sure that's one of the bigger cities. Nice sized, like 600,000 or something. I'll check ...

Well, 1.6 million in the metro, but that's a large area. So you'd be in a relatively good place, I bet. It's in central NC. I'd talk to Quoi or l0rd about the state if you want a lot of info, they seem to like it and live ... somewhere.

I was born in North Carolina. Although I don't remember a thing about it. :P

I don't have much experience with moving, the last time I moved I was about 3 years old. But the only advice I can give you is to just be yourself, and you'll make friends pretty quickly. Oh, and get involved in sports/clubs at your school, so you can start meeting new people.

I moved around a lot in my life. One thing I learned from experience is that quality always overrides quantity when it comes to friends. You always want a small group of people you can open up to, not just a large group of people you can suck up to.

I always found that I usually would meet a few great friends every time I moved, in high school it's just pretty easy.

To clarify a bit I've moved pretty much every 2-3 years my entire life. The exception to that was I lived in Mississippi for 5 years (up until end of middle school). Other than that I've moved around a ton (and far distances too. Went from Mississippi to Germany to Kentucky) and I've always been able to make new friends. I find that keeping in touch with your current friends is great too, I actually share a dorm room with a good friend of mine that I met in Germany. :)

For those who are curious my dad is in the army so that is why I moved around so much. Not so much anymore now that I'm in college)

I'm in a smililar situation, moving in a few months because my dad got a job elsewhere, been living where I am for 10 years...

I don't wanna leave, my friends right now are probaly the best I've had in my life. But its gotta be done I suppose.

Just keep in touch, and think of the positives (eg for me I havn't made sports teams becase I was on the bad side with the coach (many times)...Nobody will even know me :P)

Doomy edit: I like sheep

You're a senior. Stick it out and you'll be done, a year without many friends is easy.

OH S***! He/she/it is back!

Go with what Zierro and Nadril said.

Also don't ACTIVELY SEEK friends. You'll end up with a whole heap of losers wanting to be your "friend" and eat your food.

Talk to people you can observe and tell who wont hate your personality.

If anyone picks on you, wait for some time to see who their 'homies' are, and if you think you can; take them on.

DO

NOT

'IGNORE'

IT.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

He's a senior, not the kid who ate his boogers in third grade. Nobody's going to push him down and take his lunch money while he cries.

... I hope.

I've moved every two years (Army brat), and I have to say that you can't really prepare yourself for it. I planned out everything ahead of time and it was nothing like what I expected. The best advice is from Nike, "Just Do It." You'll be fine. ::'

mate of mine moved over to the states from UK last year, made alot of friends by joining sports teams.

also managed to chat up a few local girls apparently, give it a shot, girls tend to be more accepting of new people.
