What is "Rare" to Jagex?

Featured Replies

EDIT: Don't go off topic by talking about a certain monsters drop rate and how your drop rate is, that's not the topic.

Lately i have been considering if Ring of wealth is a smart choice and how big impact it has on some of the monsters i slay. There has also been many threads trying to reveal it's effect on forum as well.

I also asked the question:

What is rare at a boss?

Bosses are harder to kill, and it's not as easy as killing for example Spiritual mages. I believe a Dragon boots is rare, because it does not drop to often.

So from my view i can safely say that using ROW at Spiritual mages is a good choice.

Because it's simple to kill the monster. I believe the drop rate of Dragon boots is 1/75. But you can have bad and good drop rate, leaving you with less or more Dragon boots.

But if you go to a boss, a boss is very hard. It's harder to estimate the drop rate of the items. Anyhow what i would really like to know and see some comments about is this:

What do you think is considered rare to Jagex (As in Drop rate)?

Dragon boots are 1/150.

Misc: Abyssal Whip x28 , Dark Bow x5, Beserker Ring x3, Warrior ring x1

Godwars: Godsword shard x13, Bandos Hilt x3, Bandos Chestplate x6, Bandos Tassets x4, Bandos Boots x5, Saradomin Sword x1, Zamorakian Spear x1,. Armadyl Helm x2, Armadyl chestplate x2.

Dragon boots are 1/150.

Perhaps that's the drop rate without a wealth?

Wealth increases chance of one, so. And Jagex states that.

We as players can say that Dragon boots are rare, but are they very rare? No.

I think there is definitely different levels of "rareness". 1/75 for d-boots is extremely common compared to say...the KQ.

Although they are obviously two total different creatures. You can kill hundreds of mages in one trip, but someone would be lucky to get two KQ kills in one trip.

~~Chaise91~~

dragon boots are indeed 1/150 with wealth,no were close to 1/75.

Well i am not a expert at it so if my drop rate is false then that's fine. But that's just how i found it.

Anyhow is the drop rate 1/150 with ROW or without?

His droprate is irrelevant.

I got a dragonstone drop from Graardor the other day, I'm quite sure I've never seen one of those before so must be a 'rare' drop? I don't think that in Jagex's terms, rare equals expensive.

I got that too when i soloed. I am 100% sure that's Very rare, compared to a hilt.

Champion scrolls are 1 in 10,000, and 3rd age from treasure trails is worse. That's rare.

Based on that then ROW does not work at all, in any case because:

What power does the ring of wealth give you?

The ring of wealth increases the chance of getting a rare drop when you kill a monster. You will never get items that are not normally dropped by that monster (e.g. a dragon medium helmet from a chicken) but you may get something that the monster seldom drops.

But i am not saying ROW affects champion scrolls and Treasure trails, but if rare is same drop rate as champion scrolls/3rd age clue.

Be serious...

I'm pretty sure that a RoW has absolutely no effect on treasure trails.

Same thing with Barrows.

Um...When 3rd Age was added, Andrew talked about them on the forums, saying that the chances of getting a 3rd age reward was "extremely rare", saying you had a better chance at getting a champion challenge scroll, which was then revealed to be 1 in 10,000.

The hilt rate at Sara is 1/250, so Zamorak is the same. The hilt rates at Bandos and Armadyl would be slightly lower, maybe 1/300 or 1/350. The sara one is right though.

my sara hilt drop rate for me has actually been more like 1/175 (based off over a dozen hilts)

also, ive seen 4 arma hilts, all in under a total of 300 kills. two of which were one after the other, back to back

I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"

walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

For me it's more like; 0/2000 at Sara, 0/500 Zamorak, 0/3000 Bandos, 1/1000 Armadyl. I don't know where people get this 300 figure from, most people I know say they are unlucky at gwd :(

Yeah i think this is 100% true. Shield Halves are considdered RARES even though they only cost like 45k or something. Rare does not mean expencive in all cases.

I'm guessing rare is any item with a less then 0.1% drop rate.

    Berserker Ring x9
    Warrior Ring x8
    Seercull
    Dragon Med

    Granite Maul x 3

joe_da_studd.png[/hide]

The items that are affected by the ring do not have to be rare, they just have to be on the list of rare items that jagex has put up. For example, an uncut sapphire is in no way a rare drop, but it is on the jagex'es list of rare drops, hence the droprate of the item is affected by the ring. Also, as stated by jagex, if you get a drop marked ''common'', the ring doesn't further affect the drop, but if you were to get a drop marked ''rare'' it might make the drop better.

What is rare? it all depends on the toughness of the monster, it's overall drops and the items in the list of rare. To find all this out you'd first have to find out what drops are considered rare(by comparing droprates with and without the ring) and then adding them up and dividing by the amount of monsters killed. As an estimate, rare drops are given by every 20th gwd boss, so only those could be affected by the ring.

iirc Jagex have confirmed that, however they did say that it works with everything else.

if there is an effect from the RoW its a subtle one, and I can't think of a practical way of us experimenting to find out what it is as the numbers involved would just be too big. My approach is to assume that the RoW does work as there would be no point in having such a controversial item in game if it didn't.

Nope there are set rules to everything else.

1. It must be 1 vs 1 combat

2. Doesn't effect minigames

3. Doesn't effect loot or coin share and doesn't effect group kills.

Theres one or 2 more but I can't remember them.

So you are practically mixing up the questions of ''does god exist?'' and any relevant question that a pupil would answer ''It depends...'' to... This is not a discussion, it's just another speculation over the game engine, divine physics(or the complexity of a childrens mind, what ever suits you best) and particular context. There is no real answer to your question(also, to even try to answer it, the understanding of ''rare'' should be the same for both of us, which it most likely is not).
