Beethovens29
imo, i think its because we are all humans...we fight for competition. to be the first, or one of the first to do the new quest. maybe feel superior to others who hav not done the new quest. they don't feel like doing the old ones bcuz subconciously, they don't think they will feel any rise in self-esteem - if it was a new quest, they'd feel the opposite. ok i think what i just said was confusing :wall: :wall:

Libertherme
Perhaps it's an extention of a storyline which they personally have enjoyed learning about? Everyone? For every quest? Either I misunderstood you, or you completely misunderstood/didn't read the entirety of the first post. No, clearly not. I'm just stating that it could be a reason why people rush to complete a quest. But if this is for all quests I would imagine it's to "boast" that they've completed the new quest/got its specialty item or up-keep their quest cape. MstrMonopoly
Same reason people go out and buy new cars even though used ones are 1/2 the price and have many of the same features. New cars are shiny. I piety the fool.
Erichermit
I'd say mostly because people prefer new content over old content. It's the same reason that people always clamor for the next update when they haven't even experienced every minigame etc. that already exists. also, the new quests are for the most part better made than a lot of the old ones. SwreeTak
I have never done a quest as soon as they have come out, with one exception: 2 days after Wolf Whistle was released I completed it. This is because I make up plans and then follow them. If I plan to rc and start doing it, and then a quest is released, I keep rcing. Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak
diib
Remember the pieces of dragon armour from when guthix sleeps? And the phoenix quills from that phoenix quest? Players can profit from doing quests soon after their release. Wether or not any given quest can be exploited in this way is usually unclear untill a few days after the release, no matter how many people call the rewards "crappy". "Noob" is an insult. "Noob" is overused. Be polite. Try to say "noob" less than once a day.Thank you.
CampbellMC
This is a completely terrible thread. You should have just put it in help and advice with the rest of your failed questions. This is extremely obvious to pretty much everyone except you. Reasons people do quests on release: [*:2sxgeshs]Quest Cape - Many people want to keep their quest cape, meaning they have to do every quest [*:2sxgeshs]Reward - Many quests have rewards which are overhyped on release, such as phoenix quills, meaning it is some quick, easy, money. Also there are sometimes improved training area's or new monsters to fight, so people want to see. [*:2sxgeshs]New Content - Most players want to do new content as it comes out, personally I try to do any new content as soon as I can, that way I can help my friends who log on later. Rageman192
I thought of 3 answers for this... 1.Quest cape people want to get the cape back (like me). 2.The just enjoy the new storylines more than the old ones (like me).Yeah, who likes the Death Plateau storyline more than eg. Tale of the Muspah? 3.Why not?
civie
1: Re-obtaining the Quest Cape 2: Easy exp in relation to the duration (short quests like Tale of the Muspah gives relatively good exp for the time needed to complete it) 3: Storyline (check out the post about the Dragonkin, you need quite a lot of quests to follow it) 4: Trade limit increase (quick quest for a small increase) 5: New items (Ring of Charos, Dragon weapons), areas (Northern Ice Cave with lots of jellies), shortcuts (free passage through Al Kharid gate), teleports/transports (Spirit Trees, Gnome Gliders, Fairy Rings) etc. Level 99's[hide]Mining level 99 achieved November 2010Smithing level 99 achieved February 2011Fishing level 99 achieved April 2011Cooking level 99 achieved May 2011[/hide]Goals[hide][/hide]Drops:Miscellanious: 1x Draconic Visage , 5x Focus Sight, 3x Abbysal Whip Offering Effigy Assistance in Herblore, Crafting. Wachtwoord
I find a quest a whole lot more fun when a lot of other people do them at the same time then when I'm all alone. I don't have to talk to them or anything, just having a lot of people around makes it better for me. And most quest areas are usually deserted, so that's always unappealing for me. 123neopet
Back before I had nearly all the quests done I'd do quests as they came out to keep from getting any MORE behind on quests than I already was. magzar
When I was working on my quest cape, I did quests based on the requirements, difficulty, and reward. Now that I have it I generally do them to keep that cape. Also, I much prefer quests to skilling or training. For me a good RPG is all about having a mission. Which means doing new things, solving problems, fumbling through misadventures, figuring out challenging puzzles, killing the occasional big baddie and unlocking new and exciting game secrets furthering not only your character but the game as a whole. You can't really find those things when you're training or skilling. mean sure you can find Bosses at GWD or Dagg kings or other such things. You can solve puzzles in waterbirth dungeon, and the barrows, etc. You'll never find all those things together like you will in a good questline though. That's why quest haters are nub. [hide]Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. I wish he wouldn't leave that thing lying around. -.-[/hide]

obidiah
Well I personally do all the quests - so I don't do old ones cos I've already done them. To answer your question though. If you do a quest on the first day there is more of a sense of discovery, you're one of the very first players to be seeing something, there probably isn't a walkthrough yet, it appeals the exploring nature in us. You tend to meet all sort of other questers if you do them on the first day, things feel a little more friendly than normal. There does feel to me a little bit of a buzz on first days of quest. I like to be part of that. The new quests do tend to have better storylines, graphics, cinematics than the old ones too. For the player who isn't reward/requirement obsessed I'd say new quests are normally better.
thesearcher
For me, there has to be some kind of motivation beyone questpoints or a small amount of xp. Something like... knowledge. That's why I did Missing My Mummy recently, and that's also the reason that I returned to do Tale of the Muspah. Doing this got me in a questy mood, so I did What Lies Below and An Enlightened Journey. Quests are essentially fun. For the player who isn't reward/requirement obsessed I'd say new quests are normally better. Rather surprised this wasn't said on the first page. Another reason that new quests tend to be better is because of the mechanics - in many of these newer ones you get free rides and teleports and sometimes ways to obtain items needed within the quest itself. A lot of them have been less of having to go and fetch items too.
Peter144
Items released from new quests will rise in prices very quickly, and people would finish the quests quickly just for the money, or for new areas that are released with possibly better training etc.

PURESMITHER
The question is - why? What motivates people in Runescape to do a quest with a very little reward **, other than one that they have had a long time to do, with possible huge rewards? Surely it isnt because its new. That cant just be the reason. ** A high majority of the Quests released in the last 8 months have had crappy rewards. Because as soon as a new piece of armour or anything comes out its worth about 100 times more than what it should be.
