Conservative Host Scoffs Waterboarding; Is Waterboarded; Say

Featured Replies

Conservative radio host Eric "Mancow" Muller decided to have himself waterboarded to show it's no big deal.

His response after enduring several seconds of having water poured on his face?

"It is way worse than I thought it would be, and that's no joke." He added: "Had I known that it was that bad I wouldn't have done this ... I don't want to say this: absolutely torture."

And the link to the youtube

They didn't even put the mask over his mouth :| Apparently he did raise money for charity doing this though

And a link to this one, another one where a journalist bet he could endure 15 seconds of it ("Nothings so bad that you can't do 15 seconds of it" and then lasts 6 seconds), and the Vanity fair one. Consider that these guys had their hands held through the entire thing too, and they still freak out.

Ha, last month a couple of my fraternity brothers thought it'd be fun to waterboard each other to see who could last the longest.

Needless to say I didn't join in the shenanigans.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

Good that another person sees that it's torture. Ridiculous for people to think it's not.

Wow, they thought it would be fun to torture each other? I don't think I've ever thought to myself, on those slow boring mondays, to inject some fun into the day with nice session of controlled drowning. You've got some pretty stupid friends. They'd probably make excellent sadistisc US army recruits though :|

Meh, we're at an Ivy League, so I guess it's a special kind of stupid.

At least he's willing to put his beliefs to the test as opposed to some figureheads who constantly talk crap without backing it up.

Indeed, kudos to him for testing his beliefs.

Haha, now he gets that it's torture. He deserves kudos for actually trying it out for himself to justify his beliefs, and others should follow suit if they still want to say that waterboarding is not torture.

Amen.

Though honestly I'm a little curious myself to see what it feels like.

Erm, it's not torture. It produces the feeling of torture, which sucks for the person being tortured, but really if the government is doing it it's for a damn good reason, and besides, there's no risk.

Still, good to see this guy actually went and did it instead of just being an armchair politician.

Torture is torture, wether its for a reason somebody thinks is good or not, hell, all the torturing in the middle ages was done because people thought it was the right thing to do, but it was torture non-the-less.

Its good that they give it a go to see what people have to go through, now if only somebody who could make a big impact on it would try it.

It's not torture.

Yeah, please post a reason for your opinions or you'll end up with the reputation of Robert.

Anyway, you say torture is torture, but you still haven't proven to me that it's torture. There's no harm being done to the person it's happening to.

No physical harm. I think its a little naive to say all torture is physical.

To me, torture is giving either mental or physical suffering on an unwilling person, to gain information etc. This definately falls under mental suffering, god knows how much doing this to somebody repeatedly scars them mentally, but it also gives the feeling of physical suffering, it does no perminent physical damage (that i know of) but it makes the person feel as though it is.

It IS. Phsycological harm doesn't matter, if it gets us the information we want without killing the guy, then so be it. And you're not going to get you're information if they don't feel like they're being harmed.

Tbh, stop acting like we're just grabbing random people and doing this to them. If it's happening, there's a good reason.

How can you say psychological harm doesen't matter, you might as well just cut their legs off, the amount of psychological damage you could do could do more damage to a persons life.

Like I said, you act like it's happening to random innocent people. If that's how we need to get information from our enemies, then so be it. They're life is not our concern and personally I don't care whether or not they're physically tortured, this is just the safest way.

To say it's not torture is naive, and to say torture is only that which causes physical harm is stupid. What other term can you possibly use to describe being blindfolded, blasted with music and being repeatedly brought to the point of drowning? Aggressive interrogation? Ha, cheer yourself up like that.

La lune ne garde aucune rancune.

Well at least it sounds as if you concede that it is torture. i think who it happens to is a topic for another thread, as tbh, i know v little about who actually gets tortured in the US.

Mainly captured terrorists, though terrorists don't really surrender so we don't have that many. (not many REAL terrorists I mean, not anyone who looks Muslim).

Like I said, I don't give 2 [cabbage]s about their safety, it's just that if any type gets approved at all it's going to be this.

What's to say the evidence though is reliable evidence? I know if I was being tortured I'd say whatever they wanted to make it stop, what's to say what I say is reliable or true?

I know if I was a judge, I wouldn't hold a statement got by torture in high regard at all as it can be false quite easily. This happened a lot in times when torture was common, people were killed or jailed due to other's false statements.

And seriously, are you that ignorant you say Psychological harm doesn't matter? People have been broken down and turned into nutcases solely from the psychological point of view, not even the physical pain of it. You don't know how bad it feels, the radio presenter now does and he expresses it as torture, I've nearly drowned before and I've something to compare it with, to be put through constantly is most definitely torture.

Way to miss my point, AGAIN. We're not doing this to innocent people, most are just interrogated. Of course it feels awful, that's the god damn point.

Torture info can be unreliable, a very valid point, but not if you know what to ask. Don't ask them, "Are you a terrorist?" If you do that, they'll say yes just to make it stop. If you just ask if they know anything, well, you might turn something up.

There's only one thing I don't like about it. What if they really don't know anything? That's the one thing that needs to be addressed for me to fully support ALL types of torture.
