Next Tuesday night is the release of Transformers 2. My friends want me to go with them to the midnight showing (which I am thrilled about!). The problem is, the next day is swimming practice. 8:00 AM. I will probably only get 4-6 hours of sleep that night. So, my parents probably won't let me go. The swimming practice is minor and really isn't that big of a deal if I'm sluggish that day.

 

 

 

Before I ask, how could I convince them to let me go if they say no?

Friends are impatient. I told them to go the night of the day it's released, instead of midnight. They refuse and MUST go at midnight showing. :roll:

if you're fairly dillegent about practice, just tell your parents it's no big [cabbage] if you miss ONE. And aside from that, it's not too hard to function with 4 - 6 hours of sleep. I've had 0 on a few occasions, and even though I clocked out at 6 PM, I was able to get through soccer practice :P . But, if all else fails, RED BULL!

if you're serious about missing out on practices, i would suggest to go for the 4-6 hour sleep method(or atleast TRY). you might get a little tired afterwards, but you'll be able to sleep earlier and regret nothing the following day.

It's hard to convince your parents if they're already set on it. General perception of these situations is your family is very group orientated and no offense meant, but you probably generally cave in to your parents easy enough once "They put the foot down". Just tell them you're old enough to know what you want to do, you'll never be independent if they're calling every shot.

Just tell them you'll come back as early as possible (3am sound good?).

You can't. You're trying to get into something useless. Yes and that's what it is. You could watch it the next day. Making it at midnight is just looking to piss off your parents.

 

 

 

I mean, if you said you're best friend who was going away for college and is throwing a get-away party then maybe; if you said you needed to get your driver's license since its the only open appointment till December, then maybe; but to see Transformers 2 on midnight only to get "I watched it 1st" status...it doesn't look good. :|

Nick summed it up perfectly. Really, it's just a midnight release, it's not that important. Honestly, being out at that time might be asking for trouble. It all depends on the situation, this is deemed unnecessary compared to, say, a going-away party for someone going away who is important.

Just because your friends are impatient is no excuse for you to go. Tell them that you can't because of your commitments. They are your friends and they should understand. And if they don't, oh well. And trust me, little sleep sucks.

Four to six hours sleep isn't bad, I just took two exams today with five hours of sleep. I'm pretty sure I aced them, too.

Falling asleep out of your usual routine is terrible :( Though that could work.

Maybe spend more time trying to convince your friends to wait a bit, tbh going at midnight is probably just a waste of time.

I've said it before on here. As long as you live under their damn roof, you follow their damn rules. They don't want you to go to a midnight showing? Then you're not going. It's as simple as that.

 

 

 

There is no benefit to going to a midnight showing. Sure, maybe it's something I'd try do, but my sleeping pattern is that [bleep]ed that going to sleep at 4am one day won't change a thing.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, you, I assume, have a fairly normal sleeping pattern, it is going to be worse if you do only get 4 hours of sleep. You'll barely have the energy to move on that day, and generally feel crap.

 

 

 

You have caring parents. Don't complain about not being able to go to this. It makes you sound like a little brat who didn't get the toy he wanted.
