The 2.5 Gigapixel Photo

TNO has produced the largest digital panoramic photo in the world. So, what do we mean by large? After all, modern consumer cameras can easily take a picture with 5 million pixels. Well, we are talking about a photo of completely different dimensions. One with 2.5 billion pixels - that's 500 times more pixels. If this photo were printed, it would measure 6.67 m by 2.67 m (300 dpi). The photograph shows Delft and its surroundings in the autumn of 2004. It was taken from the top of the Electrical Engineering faculty of Delft University, at a height of about 100 m, by TNO.

Kinda scary in the way this could possibly be used as spy camera technology. Unnerving, to say the least

ah man, you have to zoom. I wanted one enormous picture that would take like an hour to load :D

I hope some day they can take a picture like that of my city, Leiden. The city in the picture is Delft, which isn't too far away from here.

Yeah I remember this being posted while back.

It's lots of images all put together hence the jigsaw and hence the ghostly images :P

It's an interesting picture. I remember spending quite a while just zooming in on random things.

I can read almost every numberplate on there. On the parking lot in the bottom-left area of the pic, there's even one without a plate :P On another forum I visit there was a game with that pic, where people took turns trying to find cars with specific numberplates or other small details.

Heh, didn't we even have a "find me" topic on this, where we had to spot things other people saw?

Amazing pic anyhow, I've had it bookmarked forever now! If only I could take a pic like that...
