The Decline of a Runescape Respect

Featured Replies

If you got outside and talked to random people. some of them would be nice, others would not. As simple as that.

And stop considering everyone who doesn't hold your opinions as a flamer/troller.

If you actually read the whole story and not nit-pick then you'd know that I have no problem with people having their own opinions, but I do when they start to have a go at me for raising the issue.. as Omalli (or whatever his name is) and bauku did.

Like I said, grow some e-balls. Not all criticism is a personal attack, and if you can't handle that.. well, then I know where your topic is coming from. You handle criticism or semi harshness like a baby.

This is the intertubes. It's words on a screen. Stop complaining about everything that is said to you.

^What he said

And whatever you say, you don't accept any critic.

Like someone said at the beginning, It's quite a strange coincidence that the "decline of RS respect" coincides with your arrival.

Also, I read everything.

I think we should put up a warning to all new-comers to Tip.It saying "All Rejoce of the Old RuneScape Will Result in Flames."

It's not a personal deal, Olissil. But you must understand that this topic has been beat to death throughout Tip.It's history. And some people are very grouchy when they see another identical thread all over again.

I agree that RS was better back then, but that topic has been over-used. Sorry mate.

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

siggy3s.jpg

You probably don't want to hear this, but it does look like you're remembering the days of RuneScape with rose-tinted glasses. It's interesting that players that have been around since "before the beginning" keep on thinking of these as halcyon days of our youth, when they were anything but.

I'll start picking apart your arguments now...

1. The influx of a child-friendly game has attracted moody pre-teens or generally more nasty little kids

The game has significantly more teens than it does children. I theorized privately that this game could be seen as full of nothing but teenagers who think that it's everyone but themselves that are acting like children, and so far, it hasn't been refuted.

2. Runescape is turning more into a place where people log on just to insult someone else to make themselves feel better and they log off again, it's happened before.

There are isolated incidents of that happening, many of which are solved by using the ignore button. What, are you going to tell me that didn't exist back then, either? Oh but it did - and it works just as nicely as it did back then.

3. It might have something to do with the increase of no-honor pking aswell, as the old bounty hunter taught everyone that to make the most money, you've got to be willing to kill people with penalties, has this increased the anger in players?

If anything, it's the players' fault for making up such silly rules. "No honor" PKing? What the heck - it's kill or be killed, full stop.

4. Wide open spaces and the decline of the "homely style" that the game used to boast with it's bad graphics and interface.

You grow up, you see things differently. What's left to say? Except for "try playing the game with those 2D sprites and 3D NPOs, and see how long you last".

5. Greed, with more powerful and expensive things thrown into the game, people are more willing to stand on their fellow man to reach those expensive things.

With scammers and hackers rampant in RS circa 2003-2006, don't you dare tell me that the game has never been greedy or cutthroat. It has always been; your head was just in the clouds.

Don't take my comments so harshly, they're exactly my sentiments on this topic. I'm not one of those players to come in here, say that I played in ot-blah before update X; I'm just one of them that says it's been the same song ever since we started playing, and the verse hasn't changed yet.

Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^

Runescape was always like except like in 2001-2003 that but I guess alittle more now.

smallsigr.jpg

Well, it's a game comprised of mainly teenagers. It's also played online and there are next to no consequences for ones actions. So you're giving a teenager a ton of people to communicate with, and no boundaries as to how they should communicate. It's kind of expected that their hormones and mood swings get the best of them.

No matter where you look in the world you will always come across some idiots. The thing is there are so many people in this one small game that the idiotic presence is a bit greater than the amount of people you would meet during a regular day.

All you can do it put up with it and pick out which people are worth talking to. You can't really expect respect on a game because it's just that; a game.

These threads pop up from time to time and the replies can't really differ. Players are human, and we all know that you can expect the unexpected from the human race.

Hehe these threads are always so funny.

I don't quite know what's been jigged around and messed up with your memory, but RuneScape was never some haven of righteousness and helpful people. There's always been an atrocious level on negative player interaction, as there is in most games.

Really, there never was a time when almost everyone was nice.

Sorry, but 'Grow some e-balls' is not criticism, thats definately a personal attack, The attitude you and omali, have shown have proven the OP's point no end. The same topic last time i don't remember any comments like you have shown.

I'm sorry, where have I made a single personal attack against the OP? I've yet to see any of that pointed out that wasn't taken out of the exaggerated joke context it was made to be as obvious as possible without putting in the winky smilies. As for the "Grow some E-balls", don't throw us both in the same cart.

And if I remember correctly, in the previous thread I directed the OP's attention to John Gabriel's accepted theory; The Greater Internet [bleep]wad theory (Look it up).

But I've yet to see the OP, in between his bouts of playing victim, or the rest of your troop, refute any of the points I've made. It always comes back to

OP: Point

Me: Counterpoint

OP: YOUS TROLIN!

Which in a thread where the OP is trying to call other people immature, takes any shred of credibility he has and throws it directly into the toilet (right next to Wilderness Tag). So please, a counterpoint to my own counterpoint if you will. And the first person to refute me with "See? Ur trollin" gets a boot to the chest, and choked out.

It's not just RuneScape. It's everywhere.

Go to any other MMO out there and prepare to turn your chat function to off-mode.

In other games:

1. People leech off of you. - Kill steal for fun or because they are VERY lazy. Don't play a grinding MMO in the first place if you don't want to actually play it.

2. G.I.R.L.S. are everywhere - I don't care if you have a girl char. But, please stop acting like you are one.

3. Certain clans seem to think they own the game.

4. Being deemed "illegit" (basically meaning you have been banned once for ANYTHING) makes you an automatic social outcast.

5. People become stat/damage freaks.

Sure, all of this occurs in RuneScape to some extent, but, to me it happens a lot more in the various other games out there.

Game communities nowadays are getting to the point where I prefer to just solo play. Strange since I joined MMO's to play the games I love with other people that love them too.

I feel the same way, I'll share a story of a lvl 130 with no respect that i've met.

Just last week I was camping spirit mages because of the increase of d boot prices, the area was empty and I was in a world for awhile, then suddenly this 130 with some simple pure name made out of random letters in a HP cape comes in and starts attacking my mages, he wasn't slaying either but out of all the mages in the area, he decided only to attack mine since I was camping in the more populated zone. Even though I got the drops 50% of the time, he starts to call me sad while using pvp slang like " wow nice 0 noob" and "sad you have to pot" (it's a monster, wtf?) and so many of his words were mispelled and sloppy typed. Then he proceeds to say i'm not even maxed which is why he insisted that I hit too low, (even though I had the best setup for spirit mages) as then I say to him that he is the one who is not maxed, by this he gets all angry and says his fire cape is in bank and blah blah blah.. he then starts to say to me that I only spec the mages because I am "special" (Ancient Mace ftw?) and that I need a combat familiar to help me win this kill steal battle... he then starts to call me a girl for wearing zammy robe legs, saying I picked a nooby homeworld (autopick ftl i guess) finally after his bank trip he comes back, and yet with the same gear he had before. I started to play with him and say a bunch of popular movie references at him, you could tell he was a kid since he didnt get any of them.. like at all. Then about an hour later he decides to hop after saying something like "you are the sadest person ive met in rs"

Me and the guy who was ranging spirit warriors next to us were laughing and sighing the whole way. =D>

you're the reason it went downhill and Not a joke in the same sense as this thread is a joke. More a sarcastic joke than a pitiful joke.

There. You are clearly flaming the original poster.

Geez, take a joke.: No, I'm not a person who makes "jokes" in a discussion forum. And, to my stand-point these aren't even jokes or have any humorous quality.

Can't type and brush my teeth at the same time very well.

Erm... I do refer to lower levels as lad, but not in a derogatory respect. Sort of in an affectionate, "I'm-givin'-ya-good-advice-,-laddie-me-buck-and-ye-best-be-takin'-notice-ya-ken-?" sense. Just wanted to point that out.

But I do think that you're kinda right. The way Jagex has been selling Runescape, and to the crowd they sell it to, tends towards pre-teens and younger- the I-want-it-nows and Don'ttellmeanythingasauorouses.

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

Another look at Runescape through rose-tinted glasses.

Hey, if Runescape was so great when you joined, maybe you're the reason it went downhill. Seems like a mighty convenient coincidence.

Who's up for a good angry mob to chase OlissilO out of town?

This, this, this.

Also, where have you been the past eight years? The Runescape community has been going downhill since conception.

Well I'm back and yea I agree 'Grow some e-balls'.. meh not exactly the worst remark made to anyone. Omali.. he just automatically took a dislike to the fact this thread was being made again and very pettily decided to follow it to the end of the discussion by disquising it as "his opinion" and honestly Omali, your opinion is something i could live without? cause honestly I don't really care what you think I'm addressing the general people of tip.it...

omg mai opinyun! :ohnoes: I automatically took a dislike to this thread because, much like the weekly "OMG DEY CALED ME N00B" thread, there's nothing new, it's been talked to death, and it's already been refuted hundreds of times over.

Was that a question? I'll answer it; No, my opinion is not something you could live without. It is like the fountain of youth; all (yes, even you) may bathe in the amazement that is its healing powers.

I've made my point earlier, so let's just throw the gloves off for a minute.

You really love playing the victim, don't you? You have no ability to take in criticism without throwing yourself on the floor in the fetal position and cowering, calling everyone around you who even so much as projects disapproval, a bully. I had a kid in my school who did that. He ended up with a pencil lodged in his hand after trying to push my stuff off my desk for the fifth time.

Oh, and Danqazmlp is right, you 2 have proved my point to no end. L0l gf u gt 0wned kid

emot-dogout.gif. You act exactly like the immature, rude players you rant about in your thread. I'm going to go back to my first post and take what was originally a joke, and make it a little more serious now;

You act exactly like the people you rant about. You say you joined when Runescape was a fruitful paradise. How convenient that the population started going down just as you arrived. Angry mob? You may proceed.

But I'm going to stop feeding the troll that calls himself OP.

I think the general age of the Runescape Community is decreasing.

For the past year, I've been seeing high level players acting very immaturely, even more so in members than f2p. When I first became a member in 2006, people were different. They were less obnoxious about their fire cape or skill cape or how much the 'pwned' you.

I have been playing Runescape since 2004, obviously not all the time since I had to juggle things with school and uni. But, I grew along with it. I was 14 then, and now turning 19. I have never called someone a noob or any other offensive names, but thats just me. We had scammers back then and even some really immature people.

But now, what bugs me is the number of disrespectful high level players. There exist all the time, but I seem to be noticing them more often now. Level 110+ with skill capes and awesome stats which you look up towards. But, what is there to respect when they behave inappropriately?

Was 14 when I joined, just recently turned 20. The high level characters you're speaking of are probably Pest Control Products, players who would've normally quit long before reaching high combat, but managed to achieve it quickly when Pest Control gave massive amounts of xp.

Yea, but I think its pretty much a spiral, the lower levels are disrespectful of the higher levels because the higher levels call the lower levels noobs. It'll probably always be like this, but also you've got the lower levels who are probably similar age to the higher levels envying their head-start in runescape, which fuels "nerd," "nolifer," "sad."
